Who here actually believes in God/an afterlife?

I am a catholic, not hardcore though. There are some beliefs that i disagree with. I go to church everyonceinawhile. It's really boring though and makes me sleepy.

you believe in the bible, you're going to hell.

you don't believe in the bible? you got nothin'

judeo christian beliefs are bullshit. theyre everything wrong with this world.

i dont have a hardcore stance on this but i dont think you really want to see this world without judaism and christianity. it gives order to the world regardless of whether you like/believe in it or not. there is a reason that you have a karma of almost less than your post count and its only partly because you look like a complete douchebag with your long greasy hair. dont be such an ignorant little bitch.

I cant say I believe in much, but after 9 years of Kung fu and buddhist teachings, i'm leaning towards that.

no, judaism.christianity are pretty much evil.

theyve killed more people than the black plague/aids and cancer combined.

its a hateful hipocritical waste of human life.

and my hair isnt greasy buddy, its just long.

i've tried with him before, it doesn't work.

he's also like 15 or 16 years old and isn't old or smart enough to be as opinionated as he is, so just let him think he's right.

to argue with a person who truly believes that these religions, regardless of beliefs, have done more damage to society than good is like arguing with helen keller about how many fingers you are holding up. sure, you know you're right, but it's useless to convince them otherwise because they don't care about the answer and their dream world looks the same in their mind no matter what.

how ignorant can you be to not acknowledge that there is a God??? think about it there has to be some greater force out there, do u think its just by luck that we are here????

well my friend if u do think its just by luck u r here than i feel really sorry for u..... cause i know u know deep down that there is a creator because God created us to have faith in him, and one day whether we r still present on this small insignificant rock floating in space or not God will come and take all his believers to go and spend eternity in paradise......

now whether u think im crazy or not....... i just wanted to say i feel sorry for you...

all you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe with your heart that jesus is lord, and you are saved.

im guessing you're talking to me? maybe.

i was raised christian and fully understand its bullshittedness, so im not ignorant.

am i an athiest? no. never said i was.

i'm pagan, that's my cultural heritage's faith not some arab's ideas of spirituality.

in regards to a christian god, i'd rather die than go to heaven. at least i'll be with my friends.

i was really just sayin it to any one who read the post........ and ah... hate to break it to u pal but the only way to heaven is to die... unless we r lucky enough to b around for the rapture..... and u just dont die u have to go somewhere after u die and i believe its either heaven or hell...... and just so u no when ur in hell u dont kno anything but pain, u wont recognize ur friends.... im not dissing other religions im just saying that my religion (christianity) is the right way to eternal life....

going to church doesn't make you a christian anymore than standing in a garage makes you a car.

--Billy Graham

I personally don't believe in a god/afterlife and i don't like religion, it causes so many problems. i know it help people too, but i just can't fully trust it.

this isn't to say i don't like religious people, just personal beliefs.

hahaha so true................ i hate it when people go "y live a good life for a reward that isnt right now".....you dont get to heaven by doing good!!!!!.... u get to heaven by believeing in God, and once you do that your forgiven for all your sins, and dont have to go back to church even tho u really should because if you really did accept him, than you should want to go and learn more about him and fellowship with other believers............ but ill try not to preach.....

I am a Christian.

I believe in life after death.

I do not believe that in order to be a Christian you have to go to church. I HATE church with a passion.

But I believe that everyone will go to Heaven eventually - atheist, murderers, etc.

i dont know 'bout that one all i know is that somewhere in the bible it says that once you are forgiven you are clean.... and that all sin is the same in gods eye for example according to the Scripture using Gods' name in vain deserves the same consequence as killing a man or committing adultery the consequence is death............. but i will say hitler was an evil man.....

alright let me try this...

how ignorant can you be to not acknowledge that there is no god? i mean who created god? do you think he just magically fucking appeared in NOTHING. fucking nothing as in idk i can't even explain NOTHING AT ALL because we can't even comprehend that shit.

at least with science it makes much more sense. it is physically impossible for us to go into "an afterlife". up to this point it is completely useless to have a legit argument about it any other way. i mean think of this "there is some all-knowing being in the sky watching over us and he controls our lives". come on now. i mean obviously there are things that we can't understand with science but that actually explains a lot of things as far as the holes in theories. not sure if that makes sense but it should.

now i believe that the bible should somewhat be followed as it teaches good morals, but don't take any of that shit literally.

your right we cant even begin to comprehend it God didnt make us smart enough to..... im leaving now but if this threads still goin tomorrow "I'll be back" ........... one more thing have you ever even read the bible???

i think there may be a higher power out there somewhere, but I doubt it gives a fuck whether I believe in it or not, so i don't give a fuck either. I don't believe in an afterlife, but it would be nice. an afterlife is just humanities way of hoping that there is something after all this, like hoping that when you get to the park there won't be any snowboarders in it. it's just wishful thinking, nothing more.

i don't mean to offend anybody who is religious, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.

lol. No, I can't rebut this. I'd like to try, but I just can't. It's odd, after reading through every post, how many atheist feel the need to profess their beliefs on others--more often than not, through use of profanity and hate. What's even more strange is how often they offer gems of knowledge, such as the one quoted above, that try to attack religion for being something forced violently upon others, when in fact they use profane attacks on another belief system, namely organized religion, to press into others their own ideas of what lies behind the universe. Now that seems hypocritical. Regardless, try a simply mind exercise. Take a new born child from the 17th century and introduce it into 2008. Holding the impact of disease constant, could that infant be raised in our society succesfully? of course. Go back a further 200 years and take another infant. Could that child, hypothetically, be raised in our society? of course. Go back 3000 years and take an infant-- anyone can see the pattern I'm getting at. Humans are humans, for time immeorial. When could this process stop? When would you take a human from a previous era and not be able to compare it, at least intellectually, with our modern era's average human? If you could go human by human, hypothetically, at what point do you reach a creature that either resembles a human, but has no human conscience or mind, or does not resemble a human, yet produced a human offspring. Examining it at the very micro-scale, at what point would you be taking back a "un-human" father and its "human" child? Surely we know that as far back as we can possibly trace humanity, to societies in the cradle of civilizaition and CatalHyuck and beyond, from the evidence that pours forth, we see that these humans had sophisticated political systems, were able to create works of art, had significant infrastructural accomplishments, had realtionships of love and hate-- the list goes on; they were genuinly human, in the very sense that we are. Yet their, or our, trace suddenly stops. This is by no means an explanation proving one thing or another, yet it seems to want to tell you that we are unique. I'm sure there are many rebuttals, and indeed, fossils and other scientific pieces of evidence 'proving' that tribes of unhumans without moral consciences or minds eventually gathered enough food to become physcially fit enough to develope parts of the brain that are crucial for defining humanity. But when you look at it at the very microscale, at what point could you take one of these beings back into our society and have it mesh in perfectly, but not have its father mesh in, in the same respect.

yes you're correct the history of homo sapiens is very interesting! you should take yourself a anthropology course so you could find out the secrets of all our other ancestors, homo erectus, homo neanderthalensis, homo habilis or even the fabled hobbit man homo floresiensis!

Both of my religious friends really believe in God and Jesus and are all about that, and helping people, but recently both of them have been leaning against churches and people who say you have to do so much specific bullshit to be a christian. they read the bible, but don't literally believe every single word, you know what i mean?

i believe the idea of an afterlife was created by man to feel better about death.

i do not believe in a god or any type of higher being.

religion has ultimately done nothing but cause conflict across the globe.
