Who are kids gonna look up to for style?

Durham knows style just chooses to do some things that are wack (in my eyes) but overall still a super talented rider. Definitely got his own thing goin on tho I can tell when it’s his clips regardless of a kit. That in itself is hella respectable regardless if you fw their riding or not.
fuck luke votaw. Very poor social media presence can make or break someone even if they have a large bag of tricks.
I think kids are gonna start not looking up to just pros or whoever has a bunch of IG reposts but anyone instead. Whether it’s a small name older head at their home hill or a random homie they discovered that just grabs clips for fun.

Not wrong. Durham grew up a mogul kid (probably with money) and transitioned to freeskiing when he was young and flexed his age for years. He was surrounded by people at carinthia, sugarbush, sunapee, and more naturally acculturated him into a core east coast scene while he also attended ski academy at the same time. Add social media into the picture and all of a sudden he knows exactly what’s cool and what’s not when it comes to what to wear. Meanwhile he learned so fast and in a structured manner resulting in horrible style(imo). He’s probably out of touch as fuck with the real skiing community but appears as if he is it, but because of how he was influenced and appears, kids start to look up to him now as he’s older now and it all makes sense because of all this.
that kinda all sounded negative but no hate to the kid, he’s a dirty skier and was just into one scene but was actually in another and is kinda goofy but so are most skier kids from his era. He’s really not that bad compared to Luke which I won’t go into.
at the end of the day though they both rip and are just having fun so kids looking up to them isn’t the worst thing (assuming they’re good people in actuality) even though it won’t be as good for the culture as to where influence has been now and in the past.
Luckily we got young snow and others emerging too…

Henrik is still a huge inspiration but probably Matej, Ferdi, EZ Panda, V Morel and a ton more will be a big style inspiration in the future. Child Labor, Buldoz, and other crews like that will definitely inspire a ton of kids also.

not sure how many people who relate, but i personally looked up to all the older kids at hyland when i first started out. I didn’t look up to any skiers with a large social media presence. Watching guys like pbone, connor johnson and tom kelley had a lot of influence on my future skiing.

Like all of them moved away to utah now and there’s less people on hill bringing that same energy. Just a ton of 12-14 year olds who all they wanna do is 4 swaps on a fat tube all day.

I think kids mostly look up to local styles. European kids will look up to European skiers. Quebec is pretty locked in style-wise. Of course kids near ski areas with academies will see lots of awful comp styles. Idk what you guys see in your feeds but Votaw isn’t it for me.
