Where to move to?!

So, i searchbarred this but didn't really find any helpful info. well I am a soph in college but I want to take a year off before I go into my junior year.  I am planning on trying to move to govy this summer which shouldn't be too difficult as i live in Portland already, but I want to move on after that.  So i'm looking for a resort.  So my question is where to go, and here are a few things that are important to me in making this choice:  1. somewhere cheap. so I can't afford Colorado.

2. somewhere preferably that is colder so that the powder is lighter and where there is a lot of pow but also good park, i am about 50-50 on what i ski.  (right now i ski hood and the pow is heavy so im looking to maybe upgrade to something lighter n fluffier)

3. somewhere where i wont go insane from being trapped in such a small place.. so somewhere preferably near a normalish sized town.

4. not park city. not east coast.

okay please help. thanks guys, any suggestions are much appreciated!!

well, i know you said not park city, but park city is my answer. live in salt lake and it is cheaper, and you have access to plenty of park and plenty of steeps depending on where you want to ski, lots of light snow, and plenty to do.

where in montana??  and where can i go where I wont be trapped at a ski resort?  I'm looking for somewhere with at least lots of snowbums too bum around with, and somewhere like not too insanely small and dislocated from society. if that makes sense...

minturn its really close to vail and beaver creek and only 40 mins from keystone 20 from copper and 45 from breck its a good place too

leadville is good just not many women so but its a sick place to live my cousin lives there and i have spent a ample amount of time there

i dont really know why you think id be concerned with the lack of women.. haha.  but yea.. how far is leadville from everything?

ya i was def thinkin bout bend.. can you gimme some nfo but bend.. like whats it like ther!? etc.. how far from bachelor.. i know bachelor would be sick.. but ya.. more infos please!  thanks

well leadville is like 20 mins for copper 45 from keystone and 45 from breck and 40 from vail(condititons permitting) and 15 from vail pass where there is sick backcountry skiing

you could also try driggs idho its on the other side of teton pass and about an hourn from jackson hole and 30 mins from grand targhee

i think i would get hated on in pc since im not a park rat and ive o nly just started park and i really have no natural taltent at it. so thats why i say no to pc...

don't be concerned about what other people think, do want you want to do and don't worry about it. there are loads of gapers that go through all the parks and a lot of people that suxk that are trying to learn, so i really don't think you would have much to worry about, if you are actually there trying to get better.

Bozeman has probably 30,000 people if that's not too small for you, but there isn't a whole lot for park.

I think SLC would be the way to go. There's a bunch of different areas to choose from, quite a bit of backcountry, and good snow. I'm not a big fan of the people there, but as far as skiing goes it doesn't get much better. And Moab's pretty close if you bike.

i guess im not really to worried if other people think i suck ass @ park.. its just im worried about having a hard time makig friends in pC because everyone is such a park person there. aso im not 21 so pc or slc may suck?  i dono you tell me..

I don't think you would have a problem meeting people. Almost all the locals out here are really chill and friendly, and while people think of it as a park only mountain there is a lot of other terrain that is sick to ski. Plus canyons has a sick deal, i think it is like $350 for anyone 18-23 for a season pass, so you can go there if it dumps if you in PC or don't wanna drive/get a pass to Alta, Snowbird, or Brighton. PC is a super cool town, and i'm sure you can find stuff to do there and/or in SLC. Plus if your interested in partying i'm sure you can make friends with some people at the U. if you haven't been out here, don't knock it.

WTF are you kidding?

BV or Salida? and ski what, Monarch?

She said she did'nt want to live in a shithole little town that is remote

I would say Salt Lake City, Minturn or Edwards near Vail/BC, or Bozeman?

NO ONE HATES AT PARK CITY. This is my first year out here and I really dont know many people at all. Everyone in the park that I have come in contact with is super friendly. I have never once heard anyone yell anything at anyone, or tell someone they suck. where is this bad rep from?

i already lived in the alps. amazing, but defintely not a cheap spot, and def impo0ssible to find a job asd an american

PC for shure...i live down in the atl, but i go out there every year with my family...ive been goin since ive been 3 so about 13 years now...its the sickest place in the world...the whole place is chill, and locals are amazing...its my favorite place in the world...and it got ranked in the top 10 place to be a ski bum

PC is the place to be or at least SLC such cool people, and to whom ever said PC's park is bad for the last 2 years, wait till u see what its like in March then talk, its going through some changes

it just seems like there would be a crap load of people at pc.. is this how it is? i ski now all mid week and weekends too.. weekends are oobviously horrible and zoo-esque.. but i mean is pc constantly a zoo cause there are so many bums?

dude u got wolf creek in 2 hours silveton in 1.5
monarch is like 20 mins vail is 1,5 hours keystone is 2 its not ideal but ur close to alot of stuff and its cheap

i've been skiing PC since it opened this year (first time out here) and the only time it was crowded was for about 1.5 to 2 weeks over christmas week and new years. other than that idk if i've waited in a line for more than 5-10minutes. plus even during x-mas week, once you got to the upper part of the mountain you could go hang on PIO, jupe, or mcconkey's and the lines weren't bad.

Bellingham, WA. We have WWU so lots of people, 10th largest city in WA, with a population of 90,000, closest legitimate town to Baker, and it's very hippy/liberal here.

Oh and we have shitloads of methlabs in the surrounding county. But you're stuck skiing shitty Baker.

but im american and i need to go somewhere where i can have a job and support myself. trust me if i could go to canada i would no questions asked. same with switzerland. used to live there on a student visa, tried to get a work visa but its quite literally impossible.

im def considering bham or somewhere in WA cause im really interested in WWU and it would be cool to get residency up there so thast i wouldnt have to pay out of state

Sante Fe...it's really nice...fairly cheap great people...and some awesome terrain...there's ski sante fe...theres taos...and I think a few others...

I live in Bozeman and its the shit. You're park skiing will take a hit, but you're over the head days and gnar factor of lines will skyrocket, ant thaose are the only things that matter anyways.

Other than that: I had a friend that worked at the Alta Lodge. He really liked it. I'll prob do the same for a season or 2 after college. You got Alta for steeps and snowbird for steeps and park, and they're on the same pass that I think you get for free while working at the lodge. You may feel a little isolated, but you're super close to SLC, so dont worry about it.

I said fairly cheap...my buddy goes to college there and lives in a apt. for 350 a month....for him and his rm mate...thats cheaper than anything where Im from...plus the lifestyle and the bars outside of town are uber cheap and fucking awesome...

salt lake city. then you have kids your age who go to the u and westminister and junk. and you can ski a whole bunch of sick mountains, not including pc

yeah PC is where its at...if i dont go to college i plan on going there...so sick there...and its only corwded during the hollidays, like any resort. Plus theres snowbird like an hour away, and brighton, and the canyons, plus alta...there is absolutely no reason not to go out there...
