When will it ever come

so with the mountain dates already moved back and with this next weather pattern, moving back this season isn't looking hopeful for whistler, give me your thoughts;

Dude be patient, i know its suuuuuuper hard I feel for yea. But the season is holding out, for me, untilll I finish school in early December. I sketched this deal with Ullr earlier in the year. Besides what we dont get in November maybe we'll actually get in January for once.

YAY!

Me too. Heading up on Monday to Diamond head. Yeah for snow! Maybe there will be enough for opening!

Yeah, but if there isn't enough snow, they could open later. Pray to the snow gods that isn't gonna happen!

BC hiking is looking good for the moment, anyways.

Even though I boycott the Alpine Forecast/webcams, the Vancouver forecast for this upcoming week looks awesome with rain and temps around 8. Good stuff!

its dope when its snowing so hard you can barely see the roundhouse from the webcam. 55 Cm by tomorrow night!

Sick! You know what else is sick? These pictures update themselves just like the Whis webcam.

I'm so stoked for tomorrow.

My skins fell off today, I stepped out of my bindings and it was thigh deep. Bad idea on a steep sidehill.

Lots of snowwwwwwww, lots of wind too though.

Apparently 80cm + fell during this storm. Numbers came from Whistler's website, so take it for what its worth, but yeah, sounds wicked. They are also reporting a 108cm alpine base so far. Can't fucking wait.

That's all well and good, but has anything fallen on the locals? I think not.

Yesterday was SICK! At least three feet at diamond head, and up top it was kinda light (for us anyways).

I'll post pics soon I guess.

Its still early in the week so everyone do a little praying that Friday wont bring rain and This Saturday will be the start of another kiss ass blaster of a season. NO pessamisstic outlooks aloud!

Baker is claiming:

The next series of fronts are coming in a little

warm on Wednesday night and Thursday with the freezing level expected

to be around 7,000 feet. It cools off after Thursday and the FL drops

back down to about 4,000 feet (elevation of Heather Meadows base area)

on Thursday night to Friday morning with the possibility of 5 – 7 inches of snowfall.

Then Saturday and Sunday is where our real hope is with the FL dropping to 3,000 feet with 5-7 inches expected Saturday night and another 5-7 inches on Sunday.

hopefully this comes through for the entire pnw

Yup, lets be hopeful!

Some shots from this miracle storm that started the base for the year:

I'm telling you that stuff was fun! Everyone should take advantage of the snow while it's here, though.

Sorry for the double post, but I have a crappy pic here, but it shows the depth pretty good.

I'm 6', and that's at least halfway between waist and knees. Plus, that's a shallow area.

Overexposed or something, but you get the point.

I withdrawl my cynicism and praise Ullr once again. Thursday freezing levels are still at 1800 metres, but 1250 on Friday and 750 on Saturday beat the FUCK out of 1900 and 2000 respectively.

Right now? Sick! This could be the start of the season. At least for whis.

Kinda off track, but does anyone know when B-comb is supposed to open? It starts with Whistler only right, then Blackcomb opens soon after?

both mountains are supposed to open on the same day, Next thursday. but they took that count down timer off their page now, so maybe they are hoping to open one of the mtns this weekend?

But why do they have the timer still on the site?

Do they not want everyone to know?

Either way, I'm STOKED.

Does anyone know the reason for not opening anything else? Too shallow/unstable, not enough marking for your average gaper?

I'll be there regardless

They always do a limited opening. Peak and Harmony opened 2 weeks after the rest last season if I can remember correctly, at least a week later.

My guess is its a combination of staff costs vs. number of people on the hill, low snowpack and more rocks in the alpine, and sketchy snowpack conditions raising avi danger.

I remember last year being exactly the same. They had a tiny park set up at the top of emerald for opening too. Sounds about normal for opening, so I'm stoked!

Damn, so pissed I can't go this weekend. Hope everyone had and will have lots of fun.

Damn work, and damn friends who say they can drive, and at the last second decide not to.

Damn.

I'll be happy next weekend.

This was posted on TGR, I thought people should be aware of it.. it's unofficial, from a guy that does AC

"Limited explosive testing today resulted in wall to wall windslabs up

to 160cms in the Glacier Cirque and Glacier Couloir. Slabs were

released with 1 kg charges. Obviously a deep instability is present in

north aspects above treeline in the Whistler area. Please respect

avalanche closures and stay out of the Peak and Harmony while we are

doing AC. Use extreme caution in all above treeline areas.

Many people were busted hiking up Pika's Traverse today, all of whom

went by a clearly marked avalanche closure at the top of Green Chair.

Overall it was a great day on the hill, but we definately spent a lot

of time chasing people around behind the closures that would have been

better spent doing avalanche control to try and open the Peak and

Harmony for hiking. Some of these people were day ticket's who didn't

have a clue, but a lot of them were advanced and expert skiers who

pretended to not see the signs just to score some pow turns.

Please use your head.

All in all a great day with lots of good skiing to be had!"

Just thought I'd add that heads up...
