When he doesn't know a camera's rolling, Mitt Romney shows his disdain for half of America.

By your logic ER doctors dont work hard beacuse they dont have the hands of coal miners. By your logic cancer researchers dont work hard because all they do is look through microscopes and analyze data.

Who is out of touch with reality again?

also, as far as the outsourcing jobs to china thing goes, thats the same thing, its much more financially smart to outsource to china than it is to keep it here, well where does the problem start? if people are willing to go through the effort of outsourcing to china and keeping money in offshore accounts, thats says we are doing something wrong here. when you get taxed up the butthole here, and have to pay way more for labor and work around many strict and unnecessary regulations, you simply cannot compete with a similar company that outsources, when you are competing with companies that can sell the same product for less, or even a better for product for the less or same, you will loose. its not that these big companies, and romneys want to hurt US citizens, they are doing whats necessary to grow their company and stay in business.

and in order to get those jobs back, and not hide money offshore, we have to make it more affordable financially to keep everything here. and with our taxes and regulations, its not even close. just like with everything else there is a winner and a looser and right now, we are loosing and not really doing anything about it but blaming the businessmen who are doing exactly what they should.

My friends this is what many can call spin.....Wolff' s numbers actually indicate that average Americans today aren' t hurting because a market slowdown in generating wealth. Average Americans are being victimied because the wealth accumulated by the economy continues to cascade disproportionally to the top 1%. In fact between 1983 and 2007, the Wolff research mentioned by our fellow Newschooler XtReme11, the nation's richest took in over one third of the nations total gain in marketable wealth, over triple the 11.2% that went to the bottom 80% of American households. Furthermore since 2007, Wolff describes the top 1% of the nation's households have seen their overall share of the nation's wealth increase from 34.6 to 37.1 percent.....

Yeah these bastards have inherited a portion of their wealth but they have swindled the rest of us out of our share. This is greed on an industrial scale. This is a sickness.

Anyone who feels sorry for the bad rap Mitt and his cronnies are getting should remember how well he is being compensated. How can anyone empathize with an absurdly wealthy who destroys jobs and then labels the unemployed as lay moochers? Yeah sure he may be hard worker, he may have reckless ambition, he may take some minor financial risks, he may be an alpha dog (at least when his mutt is strapped to the roof rack...haha) but why would anyone argue that he is entitled to way more of the pie than 80% of Americans. Should he make more than most Americans, sure.....Should he make 1000 times as much? Absolutely not. This is straight up greed and there are reasons why he is reluctant to show Americans what his take home is.....he knows it is simply not justifiable and it certainly is nothing to be proud of.

Shut the fuck up you self righteous prick. Do me a favor, look at the tag on your shirt right now. Tell me where your shirt was made.

But damn that Mitt for sending jobs oversees. Lord knows you dont benefit from cheap chinese labor, not at all.

by the same token though, a greedy businessman can ruin a lot of lives when he gets too greedy. it wasn't burger flippers that fucked the entire economy over, it was executives and politicians. yes there are a lot of people who don't work at all but a percentage of those people have become disinterested with the human race, and for good reason. growth in business, especially in the USA, will always hurt somebody or something out there. most businessmen place value over the economy vs. the environment, when (in a perfect world) there would be a balance between both. that's why we've literally changed the composition of the pacific ocean, not because we were trying to, but because we weren't paying attention to the reactions of our actions, at least, most of us weren't. there's a plus and a minus to everything about business.

already have more money than they could ever possibly need, unless of course the cure to cancer is to build a fleet of giant spaceships and fly to the end other end of the universe and bring back the cure to earth.

It is nearly comical how you refuse to connect the very dots right in front of your face. Business people like Romney are the very reason why America is failling. These guys are winning because they don' t mind if the rest of us are losing. The people working at Wall street don' t mind passing on the risky subprime mortgages as triple A because it lines their pockets...Hell if the crash of 2008 has taught us anything it is that deregulation and laisse faire economics is absurd and the concepts of perpetual growth and sustainable development are ludicrous.....

Back to the topic at hand. Mitt Romney, what an idiot.

Now now child no need for name calling....

My shirt was Fabrique au Quebec....serious I got it in Montreal on St. Laurent.....it sayy 100% gosse au Quebec on the front too....but yeah you are right most of my cloths come from China....but you are wrong in insinuating I benefit form this kind of exploitation, cause in truth only a small minority of society are rewarded with the ways things are set up currently....

what do you mean "swindled the rest of us our of our share"? why is it your share? so the top 1% have 37.1 percent of the nations wealth, why is it yours and not theirs?

and why the hell shouldnt romney make 1000 times as much? where is the wrong doing in that? are you trying to say you should be limited on how much money you can make?

Maybe im failing to see what your trying to say, but it seems like you're demonizing the rich for being rich.

stop fucking posting you live at home with your mom and dad. one day when you grow up you will learn how life works, because you clearly have no grasp on it.

The more the wealthy make the less the poor do. In 1960 the average ceo in the US made 30 times that of an average worker now that number is 1000. This means more wealth in one place which means more dying on the streets.

a business man can also help a lot of lives as well. nobody praises a big business guy for creating 1000 jobs, but we will demonize the crap out of him when he has to lay off a bunch of employees to keep his business running. of course when his actions hurt someone else its hurting them on a much much larger scale, but its all relative. when all you do is run a small doughnut shop or something and you gotta fire somebody or your shop puts the one down the street out of business nobody even notices. but when your a big company with 2000 employees and you have to lay off 100, or you put 10 local businesses in one town out of business, then yeah, people will notice. but its all still very basic and extremely necessary business practices.

I think a lot of people fail to see the good big corporations do. its like we have this mentality that if your rich, your greedy and dont care about others, and naturally we only see the negative.

yep this is why america creates poverty. no compassion or understanding that everyone in the nation is connected, no matter what differences. the rest of the civilized world figured it out a long time ago but right here we have a perfect example of someone who still doesn't get it. keep living in the 20's, america. who cares that their neighbour is poor? not their problem. just toss them in jail or feed them to the birds, that'll solve everything, anyone can get rich all it takes is effort, etc. etc.

yeesh.

i worked at a local bike shop for minimum wage, so was my boss a cruel greedy evil man? or does that only apply if its a chain? and hey! guess what! i quit working there and got a job that pays better! and so on. nobody forced me to make minimum wage.

that oughta be enough to buy some ramen to eat dry while you live in your box under a bridge. good thing you moved up in the world.

Silly Mittens. I don't mind him saying stupid shit like this. Just gives Maher, Stewart, and Colbert more material and ensures even further that he's not getting elected.

Yeah being a white, middle-class kid growing up in a nice area makes you quite the expert on socioeconomic statuses, unrealized privileged and the American economy as a whole....

I usually find the people that support Mitt are the ones running on the platform of, "I'm white, my suburban town and gated community is doing alright, I'm having a good time so all these issues people are talking about really don't exist. They're all liars!"

Umm discussing stuff with youis like smashing my head into a wall over and over again....
Look, all your little anecdotal story about the people around you are cute and everything, but they simply aren't the reality for most Americans. The only valid resource you used to prove your case you actually didn't read. Go read that study you previously referenced by Wolff, then tell us what you think. This is what I see is happening: The richest people are dismantling the middle class, disproportionately burdening the poorest and most vulnerable and effectively polarizing the entire socioeconomic structures of America.
Romney pays something like 13.9% in taxes. That is similar tax bracket as firefighters and policemen....something is clearly wrong when a venture capitalist gets taxed in a similar way to a public servant. Maybe there should be a limit to how much one individual should make...cause the tax system surely is broken when a uber-wealthy person pays so little back.
Hell something is definately wrong when a group of people pay 50,000 dollars a plate (almost double the average annual income for most American households) to hear a potential President bellitle almost half the country for being poor.
Let us not forget that Mitt early childhood was supported by welfare. His parents were given an opportunity by the welfare system, an opportunity he would like to deny others....c'mon.
As for demonizing the rich....well regardless of what I say on some little internet site, they have their riches to protect them from everything but the shame. I am much less comfortable with a rich and powerful presidential candidates attacking the poor and vulnerable. I have trouble understanding why you fail to see this kind of obvious distinction.

Oh another cute anecdotal story form your life. Nice.I was a ski and bike tech in highschool too. Luckily for me I had support from people around me to continue in school, but it was this support that gave me opportunity....not everyone can access this kind of support or has a chance to get these kind of opportunity....especially nowadays.Okay there is a cute story from my life....convincing?

An Open Letter To Candidate Romney

Dear Mitt Romney:

I saw your video.

I saw you speaking candidly and off the cuff about me. Don’t get me wrong, I know that you didn’t mention me by name or anything, but we both know you were talking about me.

When you were talking about 47% of the population that is never going to vote for you because we are “dependent victims” who lazily live on government programs like food stamps, I can’t help but take personal offense. In fact, once you decided to lump in anybody who is never going to vote for you, you weren’t just talking about me, but many people I love, and about 90% of the people I know.

My children eat because of food stamps, Mr. Romney. Now, sir, I want you to picture a Wyoming cowgirl: a mother, a fighter, a righteous, determined, God-loving woman. A Rocky Mountain Grizzly Bear Mamma that would make Sarah Palin’s makeup-wearing pit bull shudder. Picture me staring you in the eyes as I ask you, “What business have you got talking about me and mine like that?”

I am watching you run your Richie Rich mouth on TV right now, with your little flag lapel pin over your heart. You brag that you will bring “12 million new jobs and rising take home pay.” Quite frankly, I have no reason to believe you or your failures in arithmetic. Even if you did manage such a feat, I’d point to the 4.5 million job head start you had thanks to President Obama saving the nation from the failed GOP policies which you use as a platform, and which nearly caused a second Great Depression.

You said that you think that 47% of Americans “think they are victims” and you even said it wasn’t your job to worry about us.

First, I must argue with you. I am not a victim. I have been beaten. I have been bullied. I have been raped. I have been addicted. I have been alone. I have been poor. I have been homeless. I have been sick and broken. I have chosen — each and every single time — to stand up and pull myself and my family out of those circumstances. I beat every one of them without any riches to aid me. I did that without any inheritance, any gifted stocks or bonds, any loans, any rich family, or any elevators for my cars. I did it because I am not a victim, I am an American. I am the Mom-in-Chief of my house and nothing less than the very best that I can provide will do. I am the product of women who forded rivers to fetch the mail after working a hard day’s labor on the Laramie high plains. I am a force to be reckoned with.

If you don’t believe me, you could ask the doctor who has to take fluid from my spine on a regular basis to preserve my ability to see, due to a rare disease. If you don’t believe me, you can ask our Ambassador to China Gary Locke, who personally invited me to a bill signing when I helped Washington State legislate protection for children in schools against bullying by sharing my own experiences. If you don’t believe me, you can ask my children who have seen me struggle but always, always provide for them. Any one of these people will tell you, that this American is not a victim.

You call me entitled. I devote every day of my life to bettering the planet I live on, with no hope of profit. I am sorry, sir, but you calling me entitled is like the pot calling the dove black. That isn’t going to work. I challenge you to stand at my side and let the American public judge which of us is entitled. I spend every dime of my and my husband’s earned income as quickly as it comes in, right here in my town. Every dime I earn and spend stays in America. I am the ultimate Job Creator. Who are you to challenge me?

You call me entitled. Every year on April 15th, I am certain that I have shown every cent that went through my pocket honestly. I dream of a day when I am well enough off to pay taxes. I fantasize of the flourish with which I will write my first check to the IRS. I would give any earthly belongings I have to be self-sufficient enough to be able to pay it forward to the society that I love.

No, you cannot challenge me, Mitt Romney. I challenge you: where are your tax returns?

I fought, I graduated at the top of my class in college, and I pursued graduate studies. I took loans against myself, believing that this would pay off, but then, in 2009, something happened.

No, it wasn’t Barack Obama’s inauguration; it was a sudden injury to my spine that ended up revealing not one but two severe spinal diseases. Since then I have been unable to finish my studies or to work. I’d like to know, Mr. Romney: how many months of physical therapy, how many of my surgeries, how many of my scars must I share to prove my devotion to wanting to be better? How many of my efforts must I submit before you’ll see me, an American citizen, as worthy of your worry? When you tell me to take responsibility for myself, I ask you: what after that?

This evening, when you justified your awful statements in that video, you said that you had said what you did because you were reassuring your donators that you could win this election. I’m sorry that you have to pander to your base like that. You seem to have sold out your soul. You have forgotten “the eye of the needle” with that wealth you’ve got. You’ve left behind Matthew 24:50. I hate to be the one to tell ya buddy, but you are not the promised one. The promised one understands that the 47% you are talking about are more than low wage workers and elderly people who worked their whole lives and paid into the system, they are the 100% that your God is concerned with when he said “Love thy neighbor.” You may pay a tithe with your wallet, but it’s obvious you’ve neglected to tithe your heart.

My husband left for work at 7 AM. It is now 9 PM and he won’t be home again for two more hours from his second job today. I spent yesterday at the emergency room. I have been waiting for two years for Social Security. I do not understand. How much more do we have to work to show you that your call for jobs isn’t enough? You must also be concerned for the whole nation, and whether we eat, and whether we have medicine. You must care if a hardworking, devoted family like mine is unable to survive after investing their best efforts. How many jobs do you expect every American to take? Three? Four?

You simply must stop and consider those you dismiss as beneath you or you cannot be our leader. It is an unwritten but widely understood rule of the presidency. I don’t know what they taught you when you were out there scalping businesses hard-won on the backs of people like that 47% you so rudely kick around, but in the real world, we care when Americans suffer. We care when you forget the young military men and women who serve our nation by sacrificing their lives. We care when Americans go hungry. We care when Americans jobs are sent overseas and rich men hide societal resources in offshore accounts. We care that we are being ripped off and even if you find profit and power in our suffering, we still exist, we still care, and we will still stand up.

See? You called me a victim, you called me entitled, you called me a lot of other things in that video, but on every count you are wrong. Just by writing you this letter, I’ve proven I am not your victim. Just by living my life of hard and dutiful effort I have proven that I am not entitled. In fact, I consider it a duty as a citizen of this Great United States to shout loudly and proudly: “Mitt Romney is not and never will be my President!”

I warn you Mr. Romney, the one thing that I have not, and will not ever lose, is my voice. I will sound it each and every one of these 50 days until Barack Obama is re-elected, we will vote with Compassion, and Wisdom, and Empathy…and you, sir, can keep your spite and your hate and your rhetoric and see your way out.

Sincerely,

Sarah Zacharias, a.k.a. The Bucking Jenny

i almost did but you gotta realize america is still full of people who believe in god, to dismiss them would be pulling a romney

same wit obama when he be talkin to people he be like lookin over dem and shit like he better....

seriously though no one notices this?

lol @ anyone that doesnt know how well Romney's businesses that he created as well as jobs that he invested in and built from the ground up.

I'm self-employed, my family on both sides are business owners, but it is a given fact that he has a hell of a lot better resume than mr. O

Thank you for those videos. If anything, I like Mitt even more now.

Also, the overwhelming majority of NS can't even vote. Which means your opinion (which includes the contents of this thread) is insignificant. Sorry guys!

Precisely, a flat tax would be fair theoretically, but we've moved beyond fairness (and not just much beyond that, far beyond that). It's ludicrous to request even higher taxes on the rich than are already present. Why? Certainly, they live at a higher standard, but what do they do that the lower tax class does not do? Create jobs. And what do they do that the government cannot? Create jobs. They improve the economy, the rich empower others to have a shot at moving up. If you can give someone a shot, they could produce results beyond our imagination... the issue is that if you tax the shit out of the shot-givers, nobody will ever have a shot to begin with.

By taxing the rich, you're ruining the poor. You're creating an ever failing society. If the government wants to create jobs they need to create a flat or damn near, flat tax system. In doing so you encourage people to shine.

Any argument about this is irrelevant. Regardless of policies, I don't think theres any doubt Obama is winning this race.

its sucks that we will be living in a socialist country in 4 years if he is voted in again. you all probably would like that though.
