Whats the weirdest thing that you had had to convince you parents is normal about about skiing that is justifiably questionable?

Right when I started skiing and my parents were still paying for my stuff, I went to the Oakley store (shoutout the Oakley outlet in Freeport Maine) and picked out a new XL jacket. It was certainly big, but by no means the baggiest/most gratuitous jacket you'd see on the mountain (this was prolly around 2009/10 when the gangster era was still in full effect.)

My mom was like "no way, this is way too big you'll look ridiculous" but luckily the store employee clearly knew his shit and walked over and was like "oh no ma'am, you should see some of the stuff people are wearing these days, if anything this is on the smaller side and he'll fit right in." Convinced her to buy me the XL and I was so hyped.

I imagine others have really similar stories

That they need to spend money so I can go to windells

lmao yeah i never went to summer camp but tried endlessly to convince my parents to let me do it when i was like 12

"summer ski camp" is just a fundamentally funny idea, can't blame them at all for laughing the idea out of the room

I tried to convince the ski patrol my coach and my parents I got “lost” and accidentally built a booter on a marked trail.

"Can I borrow the car at 2 am to pick up some pvc?" Worked out well, probably because there are a million worse things I could have been doing. Convincing them that driving in snowstorms is a worthwhile venture never panned out though.

It may not be questionable at all, but my dad, who is an avid skier and ripped back in the day, still cannot understand why we wear our goggles under our helmets haha

I remember when I was younger trying to convince my parents to buy me twin tips was kind of a struggle. My dad was like don’t you think you should get some REAL skis?

When i had lunch with my dad and told him I was looking into NZ, Aus, and Africa to snowboard. He didn't seem to get it. Whatever, ended up living working and riding all of the above. Yolo and stuff.

My dad wouldn't let me go ski street if I didn't ask the property owner for a persmission?

This^

and I tried to build a backyard setup when I was like 14... my parents wouldn’t let me because they thought it was “unhealthy” to want to ski that much and that it was “bizarrely strange to wanna go out in the hot summer in ski gear just to go down a ramp”.

I built one anyway last year

also around that age my parents would get pissed that I wanted to ski at least twice a weekend. I would go on Saturday and they would be mad if I even asked them I could go Sunday too, even if I had my own ride there.

I feel you man, I’ve been trying to convince my parents to let me build a back yard setup for 4 years, showed them plans and even the money I had saved for it and nothing. When I have a kid the first thing ima do is build em a setup cause I’ve lost hope in my build

I won't diss your parents but that's kinda wack. If you have a ride and a pass and it costs them nothing it's pretty shot to tell your kids they can't do it. I get it though our society is built on some shot beliefs but damn. If you're happy and you're not on the droogz friggin send it my dude. Tell them the abortionator says it's cool. That should help prolly.

My mom will still never look at any footage of me or my siblings skiing after close to 10 years of filming stuff. I barely ever even do dangerous stuff anymore cause thats for kids. She's come to terms with us loving freeskiing but it just stresses her out too much to watch. Dad loves it though, he's always down to help build booters and film.

"5 consecutive winters as a lifty is not a waste of my life."

They were right but I'll never admit it.

At least you admit it to yourself

Depends on the day of the week multiplied by alcohol consumed divided by looking at my 401k savings.

Like the dude above, definitely the ride to the mall to buy 3xl tall tees so they could hang outside of my jacket and get covered in snow. “But it looks cool mom.”

Yea facts, I’m not involved in that shit fr and they know it. Jokes on them though, I skied 6 days a week this past winter. Ever since I got my license a few years back they haven’t held me back the way they did when I was like 14
