What if Mt. Hood erupted?

My science teacher (lived in Oregon) said that Mt. Hood is active and could erupt at any time. What do you guys think would happen if Mt.Hood erupted? I think Will and Andy would probably just hippy killer the lava.

My guess is that people wouldn't ski there any more if it erupted. That's pure speculation though.

I think billions of tons of ash and toxic ashes would be sent into our atmosphere. I think pyroclastic flows would destroy the wildlife and communities surrounding the region. I think a change in regional climate and potentially global climate would occur. I think a lot of animals would die. And I think all the rich, spoiled little fucks will have to go somewhere else for their skiing summer camp from now on.

What would happen if people were skiing at the time of the eruption? we would potentially lose dozens of pro skiers and hundreds of civilian skiers

Also it's a stratovolcano so it would be a effusive eruption. it would be mostly fast flowing lava not ash and toxic gas.

Well jeez..i dont know man. Its not like volcano eruptions cause mass destruction or anything..so i doubt anybody would even notice it.

I'm saying that the eruption could happen so fast that people wouldn't have time to react

I swore i read something saying it was gonna go in 60 days or less. So will that be the end of Timberline summer skiing? If Palmer and Mile are destroyed they wont be able to build new ones. I'm also wondering how this will effect Govy/Ski Bowl.

Well people would die. That's that. What don't you understand?

I read a hypothetical article about this last year. I guess tons of wildlife was evacuating the area and they thought it was going to erupt. 6th sense theory basically.

Wish I could find that article again. Basically Bye Bye west coast. I was on the edge of the "ash zone" if I remember correctly. That's the Kansas and Missouri border.

Hence the pyroclastic flow I mentioned. But there would also be plenty of ash and toxic gas from the initial eruption, strato and cindercone volcanos have the highest gas contents of any volcano. The only types of volcano that doesn't release high quantities of ash or gas are shield and lava dome volcanos. Strato and lava dome volcanos have the most violent eruption. If Mt. Hood went, it would be very bad.

lol@some of these posts in this thread. nevermind the hot molten lava and ash killing everyone and everything, WILL MT HOOD MEADOWS BE ABLE TO REBUILD THEIR LIFTS? oh god, the humanity.

Meadows would be like timberline. Back in the day (like a long long time ago) it was filled in up by illumination rock and where timberline is, was like meadows. But the area up by illumination rock exploded outwards and filled in timberline... Which is why its pretty flatish/smooth now and has some big boulders. Meadows is has more steep terrain because it wasn't filled in by an eruption. Thats also why meadows doesn't have a bunch of big boulders and t line does. So basically the best part about meadows would be gone.

A wall of felsic, superheated death would surely envelope you and your comrades. If you`re lucky, the pyroclastic flow will hit you at the precise moment of righteous afterbang, so your Pompeii style death cast will look steezy as shit when exhumed by future geological processes.

Mt Ruapehu erupts every 4-7 years it seems and people still ski there. Honestly was not so secretly hoping it would while I was there.

The ash might cover the snow and fuck it all up, but other than that if the mountain was intact, lava, lahars or big motherfucking molten rocks don't destroy everything then I think people would still ski there like usual.

Tell your teacher to go to hell.

But I do have a plan if it starts to blow

1. Gather all pets and toss them into a sheet

2. Toss sheet over shoulder and run to my car

3. Drive to your teachers house and say I'm sorry

4. Go back and get all my Wizard Wax.

You seem like a ferret guy to me. Nothing worse than a sheet full of angry ferrets. That teacher is fucked.

You guys don't really seem to understand what happens when a volcano erupts...

Yeah well on the bright side everything has already blown relatively recently so hopefully we'll be good for at least another lifetime. If Rainier goes though, lookout.

I mean realistically, we should worry about yellowstone haha

other than potentially the portland area, the west would be pretty ok.

The midwest might get fucked.

Here;s a pick from ruapehu the last time it erupted. Had a pretty good photo shoot in the xl park.
