im a jr right now, 3.94 GPA (all years) in all honors and AP classes. so what do i need to take sr year to get in? so far im thinking AP calc, AP civics, AP chem, AP english, spanish 5/6 and weightlifting. do i really need 3 years of spanish? a lot of colleges say 2, but a lot also say 3? will colleges really turn me down for not having enough foreign language?

You should be fairly set, if you have a collage in mind that wants 3 years of spanish go for it but I would say your good. Most collages i understand really like AP anything even if you get a B or something less than perfect. I'm not 100% sure your not just bragging.

they said the same shit to me about foreign lang. not true at all. to be honest the higher class of foreign language you take in high school the higher of a class you will have to take in college

it's not that they will turn you down but if they have a minimum requirement for forign language, if you don't do it in highschool, you'll have to take it at college level, which is a lot harder than high school, so might as well do it now

damn thats an intense schedule. where are you trying to get in? also, you dont absolutely need the 3rd year of spanish. if they require three, they will still admit you, but then make you take a semester of a foreign language when you begin attending te school.

also if u have a major in mind u might want to see the language requirements if u need alot mise well get them done in hs.

As far as language goes. If the college you're going to go to has a language requirement and your high school has a good language program take as much as you can. If you can test out of college language you'll be a lot happier.

As far as taking 800 ap classes your senior year I would only take 1.

Senior year I only took one real class. I took calc II at the local community college.

Everything else was a blowoff class like art and tv productions.

Your senior year doesn't matter as much since the transcripts you send will only have grades through your junior year. As long as you've been taking AP and honors classes up until now you'll be fine.

Take it easy senior year. College is fucking hard. Enjoy high school.

take calculus and algebra or geometry if possible

solid algebra skills are useful to have for alot of subjects, but it is only something that comes with alot of practice

hmmm... see why i love ns? im thinkin i want to take AP though so i have a bunch of credits out of the way you know? and maybe i just go to a shitty school, but keeping those grades up isnt really that hard for me. i dunno, i think i might drop AP civics and take these other two classes instead. i dont want to take spanish in college though, so im not sure. and no, i have no idea where i want to go, but i want to make sure i get accepted when i do decide.

do you want to know the truth? take english, and maybe math, and thena ton of blow off classes, you are going to get accepted no doubt to almost any school. Have fun, and quit worrying about your future. This is coming from somebody who was in your shoes a few years ago.

nahhhh. My junior year, i took 2 aps, and senior year, i took 2 aps and a bunch of honors classes as well. I go to an ivy league school now. Don't overload yourself with AP classes, take ones you are interested in. Taht is my approach. Also, get really good at a sport, it makes college process so much easier! Than again, its easier said than done. But, don't take too many ap classes, and yes, definitely still take spanish.

Sorry he likes to challenge himself... And school councilors aren't always the best, you wouldn't believe how many of htem suck. My school had good ones, but tons of schools just have dead beats

Dude. calm the fuck down. You're fine. If anything, take an easier load next year. You sound like you need to relax. Your life shouldn't be ruled by getting into a prestigious college. Plus, colleges don't look at senior year as much as they do soph. and junior year. And what you're asking definitely changes the answer depending on where you want to go. So..... Where do you want to go?

take ap calc for sure. After that it doesn't matter. AP english won't count for college writing (at least it doesn't at my school I don't think) so that won't save you any time. I don't even know what civics is scratch that. I wish I would have done more language in high school because its going to rape me in college. Colleges don't look so much at what you're taking senior year since you'll apply long before you get any of your grades back. With a 3.94 you're probably good to go just about anywhere as long as you have decent ACT or SAT scores.

Yeah, um. . . I think your good to go. have you taken your SATs yet?

I got into college taking easy classes, I only took AP fresh and soph year, and my gpa was like 3.0 and I didnt really put a lot of focus on school at all.

Hmm well what school are you looking forward to attending? Also, what major (or majors) are you interested in? Some do not require you to take a language, so doing extra years of a language you don't particularly like, and one that you will not have to take in the future, is a bit overkill, but it is important to look into that.

But if your academics are good (which they seem to be) and you kick ass on the application, then you should have no problem. Seems like you're fretting because those fucking school advisers/counselors are fucking with your mind with the usual propaganda. Don't mind them, they don't want creativity or anything. Just chill, you seem alright.

shit man where do u wanna go, ivy league schools? but shit with those grades you'll be able to get into any state school and many privates, i wouldnt take that many ap classes though unless your really motivated to get into a certain school and follow a certain career path. Otherwise enjoy your senior year, that shit goes by way to fast, and the responsibility that comes with a tough college career is way to overated trust me

challenge yourself. its good to in the habit of having hard classes. dont stress about it. just take them and get decent grades. 3 years of spanish is great. and where are you looking to go? def take calculus, i didnt take calculus and now i'm taking business calc in school and im just like ahhhhh too much information at a time!!! its crazy and fast and hard. ---the class that is. anyway, dont stress about it too much, enjoy it but remember if you slack off its gonna be harder to stay focused next year. habits are habits no matter what school setting you're in. plus if you live in the dorms, that's like distraction 101. ugh.

calc is better to take in college, I think. there are 3 years, but I only took one cause I'm a microbio major and dont need it.

take as many AP classes as you can. So worth it. AP classes are SO MUCH easier and cheaper than taking the class in college.

only take ap classes that youre interested in senior year. its not worth it to take them just to take them. you'll get much more out of it if you only take classes that interest you. the rest of your classes should be easy. once senioritis kicks in (it did for me right after midterms) you will hate yourself for taking all of those tough classes.

well first look into what you want to take in college. certain classes require certain credits. ask your guidance councellor to give you more info on courses you want to take in college. i had to drop gym this year to take chemestry for a class i wanted to take in college, but now i cant take it because i cant have my f-class drivers liscence in time. so ive decided to enroll in the multimedia developper class. should be a good time

i would take nothing my senior year if i was you. i got into my college of choice (john jay criminal justice) with no math B no language no anything. i was basic all of high school just taking what i need for graduation. take the easy way out. even if i went to community high school, i could still get a phd if i really wanted too. getting into college is overrated. not as hard as it seems unless your going ivy league. then thats just a waste of money. go smoke some weed and enjoy fucking high school. so much better off stress free. stress from parents and teachers. no homework that take 5 fucking hours. i don't even get homework. stupid rant but getting into college is overrated. you will get into a state college you want with that. ITS NOT THAT HARD

true. getting into college is overrated. algonquin accepted me like instantly. its only the high-competitive classes that you need to actually try for.

will colleges really turn me down for not having enough foreign language? no. it will not. do i look like a college admissions office? direct your "kiddie" questions to the right people. fuck you and fuck montana.

Man, you're set. You can get into great schools with those credentials. Just don't slack off senior year, colleges DO look at your classes to make sure you're still challenging yourself. If you can handle the ap classes, do it, you'll thank yourself later when you've saved tons of money on tuition. Try to pick a few colleges and check out how ap credits transfer. If you don't get credit for one of the tests, don't take the class. Good luck, not that you'll really need it. You should probably just come to Michigan State :)

If there any more AP classes, take them. But you're pretty much set from what I can see. Alot of colleges prefer at least two years of foreign language, so taking another year of Spanish wouldn't hurt. What colleges are you looking at?

but its hard if you've never taken it before. im in the business one so its pretty much skimming the surface of those 3 courses in 1. its fan-fricken-tastic. actually thats where i'm about to head off to. yay...

please dont take sociology...it sucks so bad...and my roomate thinks about putting a gun to his head every day after calc. so id watch out for that too

that's a very solid resume. i have no idea if you wanna go to a state school or a private one but volunteer hours/leadership roles are always good to have on a resume, especially if you're looking to private schools.

Hey my dad went there!... for law school not undergrad though. But, going to an ivy league school really isn't a waste of money. First of all, you get some of the best educations available in the world. Second of all, they tend to have more programs, so if you change your mind it isn't a bid deal, unlike for example lets say you realize criminal justice isn't for you, you are kinda screwed. (just an example i dont know specifics) There are some small private colleges that nobody has ever heard of that cost upwards of 40k a year. Those are wastes of money. Also, when you graduate from an ivy league school, you have connections like mad.

You make it osund like if you want to go to an ivy league school, you can't have fun in hs. So not true. In high school I did only activities I wanted to do. I played a sport 11 of 12 seasons, and did none of the bs clubs that most kids do. When i first got here (dartmouth) I was amazed that the kids here aren't all geeks. I'd say there were more geeks in my hs than there are here. Plus i skiied allll the time in hs and didn't have that much work. Oh yea, and we are ranked as 12th (around there) beer school in the country. Work hard, party harder.

dont be a dick. whenever someone actually tries to help people out, people are dicks. thank you for the help everybody. im pretty sure im dropping AP civics

take every class in every year of everything your school has to offer. you might have like 200 periods a day but hey thats what i had to do to get into college.

i hate to say it u should do yourself a favor and just chill... what else are you gonna take? last time i checked AP classes where the hardest.

but do take three years of spanish. it wont hurt
