What Car Should I Buy?

ive driven multiple sti's from stock to one with 8k in the engine and 6k in suspension. stock they just push like fucking crazy, its a pretty well known fact that sti's and wrx's have a pretty big understeer problem. even the modded one i drove pushed, not quite as bad, the only way to fix it was to be super agressive with your brake release. handling wise id even take a stock evo over the modded sti i drove, its just a much better balanced car. and in snow, the sti basicaly pushed to the apex then went to oversteer right about at track out, only way to fix that was with the e brake or really flicking the car hard. the evo would hold a nice constant rotation from turn in to track out, and it was very easy to make adjustments mid corner.
honestly theres nothing i liked about the sti more than the evo. just look at european rally, the evo is the platform to have for amateur rally, i forgot the stats i heard but i think the evo's outnumbered imprezas in general by a a longshot. STI's just have this "rally car" reputation here that they have gotten from people who dont know shit about how to drive. that being said i drove an evo 10 and i fucking hated it.
 
s4's pretty much are freak accident cars. i know of alot of people who own or have owned them and they just plain are not reliable one of my friends friends put something like 11 grand just into reapairs over like two years. they are good cars to drive, just not to own.
 
yeah, that's the point i was getting too. People walking around in their ken block shirts thinking they know everything because they've seen youtube videos.

So my advice to the OP go test drive multiple cars, see what you prefer. You may like an Evo over STI or opposite, or maybe you want a 350z. Test drive all your options first
 
I didnt take the time to read all of the posts in this thread just the title.. but if you need an all wheel drive car thats good in snow I would recommend a jeep.I drive a 2006 Jeep Commander and I love it. It is great in the winter on snow and also rides awesome in the summer letting a lot of sunlight in from the 3 sunroofs. It was my first car and I love it. It was about 17,000.Good luck with your search

sti becuase you can use it all year round and can perform with some top notch cars rain or shine.
 
can you even import an evo 7 into Canada? I've never looked into it but i remember reading something about them not passing the bumper test.(~8kmh collision and has to be no damage, but the FMIC got fucked up)
 
I feel like 350zs are cool but will get old fast.The s2000 isn't my taste.The subie, this is newschoolers, nuff said.The nissan, I like that most. Rare and respected.
 
Go with the Evo. As far as holding value, it will be the S2000. The STI is so played. You will be like every other fag on the streets. If you want something to really rally the snow, get a truck. I love my new F-150. So sick
 
trucks are more for plowing through stuff. for "rallying" in the snow cars are the only way to go. both are fun as hell though.

and to the OP like somebody said above, look at rx8's they are one of my favorite cars. they drive so well and are extremely well balanced.

i can really only comment on the sti vs evo conversation...
i personally drive a subaru, which will eventually be an sti after i do suspension, engine/tranny, etc etc...but thats neither there or anywhere.
back from tangent...what do u want out of the car? from stock, the evo will handle better on the road all day over the sti, but the sti will be much better on loose gravel, snow, etc...basically anything other than ur typical paved road.
keep in mind, and people seem to forget this more than anything...its all about the driver! put a professional rally driver in a chevette and he will pound the snot of out it...mean while you could put a 16 year old who just learnt to drive in an enzo and he will probally kill himself on his first corner...
 
i completely disagree about the evo being worse on loose surfaces, having driven both in snow, and a little dirt, the evo's handling advantage stays the same when it gets slippery too.
but yeah i completely agree about the driver thing. all you really need is a well balanced car, if you cant have fun in something like a miata, e30, old gti etc.. then you need to learn how to drive, the last thing you need is a bunch of power to cover up your bad driving.
honestly, id much rather drive an mx5 or a miata over an sti, or even an evo, just because its so much more involving, better feeling, and challenging to keep speed.

hmm...well i havnt driven both, i just took the advice of a friend who races an STI in the CRC...
isnt the evo a lot more expensive than the STI? i forget the price points
 
 
Rotary is not a bad idea. if you were to chose a rotary, an enthusiast would take the rx7 over the rx8 because the rx8 is a peice of shit.

it's just hard to find the right mechanics to work on rotary's considering how little car companys make them. Rotarys can be the most reliable engine ever. and, the rx7 has not been beaten for the most power to weight ratio.ever.
 
EVO's cost about the same as an sti new. EVO's seem to hold their value a tad more, but they are pretty much the same price.
 
my guess is you have a good ski car/suv already and this will be a purely fun car, so i would go with the s2k. that car stands for everything you want. purist rwd, small, light, racey
 
meh i dunno, ive only driven an rx8, but its one of the best cars ive ever driven, from what ive heard the rx8 is a better drivers car.
 
Coming from my neighbor who has owned many sti's and evos in his life time(currently has a 22b Subaru). He says evo will be quicker but they are shit cars. Evos gave Mitsubishi the nickname bits-are-missing as they tend to fall apart. I would honestly go for a Subaru Impreza 22B, best car they ever made hands down.

Keep in mind this came out of the factory with "280"bhp as did 2jz supras and gtr skylines did at the time to meet the Japans limit on horsepower but in reality they have 350bhp and it only way 1270kg's

 
50grand might seem like a lot now but 50g's after taxes, rent, insurance, personal expenses, food and so on doesnt leave you that much wiggle room to drop 15k on a car (say around 300 a month if finance for 5 years) I guess it depends on where you live but around here where a nice 1 bedroom costs about 1400 a month 15k on a car is a lot
 
Thanks for the help guys. Decided to go with the evo 7. After cruising through some forums I'm hooked. You can make them super quick relatively easy and reliably. Plus if I'm spending 15k on a car I better be able to drive it all year round.

oh, and to the retard who posted the Z06. I decided to lease a lambo instead. And when thats up I'm picking up a new bentley.
