Weight Training and Skiing

So I got put in a weight training class at my high school and am really not liking it. But if it were to help me with my skiing I would stay in it. So i am just wondering if lifting weights will help with my skiing.

Thanks.

Just do squats and leg presses if you can. Can't really think of too many other things that would help. Maybe ask your teacher/instructor about core exercises you can do?

well Im sure it depends on the type of lift. If you guys do lifts that help with your knee muscles and your core then Id say stay in but otherwise if it is just meathead bench, clean, and squat then get the hell out

definitely stay in it, even if you're not doing strictly squats and leg press everything helps, even the stronger your core is the more it'll help with skiing

You could also do light weight upper body work outs to help with spinning and imjury prevention as shoulder injuries are common in skiing (both mine are seperated right now).

I do find it funny on this site that it seems working out or lifting weights has such a negative connotation. Just because your in the gym doesn't mean your some ripped roid monkey looking to get unhumanly jacked. There are lost of ways to work out for lots of different results.

Well, if you are a good skier though, you are going to be very susceptible to injury so time spent in the gym lifting/stretching can allow you to prevent injuries and spend more time on the snow and not lying around hurt. From that point of view, it is more fun and just logical to spend time in the gym. I understand that lifting can be a pain in the ass though and hard to get motivated for, but after you do it for a bit it isn't so bad anymore.

I meant overall happiness. Yes, if you work to support your skiing, then obviously you do it because the combo of work and skiing is better than doing neither.

Of course it is going to help your skiing. If you are in a class you will probably get well rounded training too! You need a strong core to be a good freestyle skier and strong legs and upper body are gonna help as well.
