No more than $400. That's only if I really like it.

I really like this watch, but the brand (Farmfresh) is relatively new and i'm sort of skeptical of giving it a chance just yet. Anyways, so far it's the #1 pick. Had the Nixon at the bottom for 2 years and i'm sick of it now.

Sort of leaning towards a vintage inspired watch with a nice leather band. Anyone know any brands who make similar watched to the first one listed below?

Farmfresh Merchant - $275

check out arvo. They have some cool leather band watches. Also, on easy you can find some pretty cool ones. I'm also in the market for a new watch, and am trying to find some different brands.

I own a Tissot PRC 200 in leather. It's an absolutely beautiful watch and I get so many compliments on it. They are a very high quality watch.

Lawrence is undoubtedly going to come in here and drop some serious knowledge on watches. That said, I would like to learn some more about them, been considering the purchase.

Wow this is nearly exactly what I've been looking for in a watch, does it have a slim profile as well?

Checked out their site, the workman looks really good as well. To bad I cant find shit about them online

I rock an entry level Tag most of the time, but I give 5 stars to Tissot. Great, attractive watches with an absolutely outstanding warranty.

Back seal broke on one of my Tissots, called them, 2 weeks later I had a new watch.

My dad's T-Touch broke getting hit against a tree while skiing. He told them exactly what happened, and they rebuilt it for free 4 years after purchase.

I hate having to check my phone for the time all the time. Especially when I'm working.

My favourite suggestion is the Nixon Corporal. Bigger (thick) face, leather strap, very very nice.

And what I have

Alright here I am, do note that post might not be grammatically correct subject to terrible layout or even lack information considering the fact that I typed this on my iPhone on a moving train.

Now we got that out of the way, let's begin dissecting:

The brand, I've never heard of them, a quick google learns me that they are an accessory brand, which is usually a bad sign, it means that watches aren't their core focus and usually an afterthought. Something that's immediately apparent when we visit their website, they list the brand of movement (more on that later) but not the country in which it was made, which is another bad sign.

Then the size, 44mm which is really large, Panerei territory and requires some beefy wrists to pull off. And with that size comes it's most apparent design flaw, which is that most of the case will actually be hollow.

Hollow? Yes, that Miyota movement was never meant to be put in a watch that large, that's why all the subdials and the date are all huddled close together in the middle, it's not a conscience design choice but a result of oversizing.

Now more about that movement, it's a Miyota movement which is Citizen's own supplier and not necessarily a bad thing, it is in this case though, because a movement like that will be roughly 30 bucks, I can't track down the exact calibre right now but you can do a google search yourself, now that means the watch is grossly overpriced, you can find vintage Swiss made mechanical watches for that amount of money.

I don't think I have any more to say right now and my train is entering the station, so I bid thee god luck on thy quest to a watch.

vintage omega seamaster?

I was looking at the chronostops, but they are a little pricier. Really like the speedmaster professional moon watch, but they are significantly out of range.

wow In my defense i change that sentence from "anyone who wants to buy a watch in nyc" and didn't switch the buy.

Yea slim profile. I tried it on today, exactly what I want in a watch too. Just unsure of its quality. Like Lawrence said, seems over priced.

Lawrence could you recommend a similar looking, better quality watch for around the same price range?

Ill do that. I really like the aesthetics of the watch I posted. Looks better in real life too

i've got a good deal with quiksilver at my local shop and got 2 ...

Looking for input, particularly from Lawrence, but if anybody else knows anything, feel free to chime in. So I'm looking for a watch around $300 and was looking at a Tissot Quartz Classic

Thoughts on quality?

Check out the Invicta watches your probably best ordering from amazon they seem to have crazy discounts on them for some reason.

The Tissot wins by a landslide, but is immediately burrowed in a very deep hole by the Mount Everest off better executed vintage plain dress watches from more reputable manufacturers with manual movements. They exist in so many variables it's daunting. Chrono24 is a nice site but overpriced, many of these watches go far cheaper on either eBay or watch forums.

Especially Omega De Ville's are beyond numerous.

Tissot and Hamilton are great watches in that price range.

This is my everyday watch just on a black nato strap.

If you want a vintage watch check out ebay or watchuseek sales forum. I just got a '50s Universal Geneve on ebay. You can get some really nice watches for cheap and if you have smaller wrists vintage watches are great. Almost always under 38mm. Manual winds tend to be really thin too if that matters to you. I

And while were on this topic I'll see what you think of this lawrence. Sold off 90% of my glass collection so I had a good chunk of cash to blow on a watch and went with this...

Alright, thanks! I'll take a look and see what I find! I've looked at some nicer used watches, but I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for on the used market.

Any advice? Looking for a decent watch. I have fairly skinny wrists, and this watch needs to be waterproof and decent quality. I prefer smaller faces, and I'm unsure wether I want leather or metal straps. I would like it to be under or around $100. It doesn't have to be the nicest ever, but I don't want a mall kiosk watch either.

Seiko or citizen.

Buy yourself a g shock, you won't regret it. I've had a gulfman now for 7 years, cost £40. Indestructible, wear it skiing, diving, working and it won't break.

I have a dress watch for weddings etc but the g shock stays on 99% of the time.

Vintage Villeret right? If so probably quite small then, at least the ones I've always seen being sold were never that big.

It's a nice watch, works better in real life then on photos, doesn't look so cluttered then. It's not a watch I see many people buy though since it's balancing between a more informal casual look and dress look. It's a watch people either buy as their only, or as their seventeenth.

It's a swell piece, not exactly my style right now but I appreciate the looks, always had a soft spot for moon phase's.

are watches on the right hand ok? i know most people wear them on the left, but i have had a livestrong on my left wrist for about 7 years and don't plan on removing it anytime soon.

interested in getting a watch though, but i am right handed and dont know if that is a style/etiquette no-no

You could wear your watch on your ear or as a cockring for what it's worth. The reason for choosing an arm mostly stems from wether you are right or left handed, you put the watch on your least used arm to keep it out of harms way, ambidextrous people are out of luck, they either need two or none.

Since there are more right handed > left handed, crowns are placed on the right side so you can easily adjust/wind with your right hand.

Just do what you consider to be more comfortable, some people might give you a funny look for wearing it on the right but those people are incognisant in any way, shape and form.

i suppose i could always just wear both on the left arm

I see a ton of people that will wear bracelets on the same hand as their watch. Not sure for the reason why, but it wouldn't be a big deal if you did wear them on the same hand.

Quartz watches are peasant status if you want a second hand (which is what you get with Nixon.) You might as well just buy a nice looking Timex and save 350$ if you're considering a quartz with a second hand. You will literally go insane listening to that incessant ticking. If you're thinking of getting a quartz watch just get one with minute and hour hand. If you simply must have a second hand buy an automatic or mechanical watch, they're much more precise and will stay accurate for longer.

24 hour 1 hand master race watches. Raketa has made them since the cold war, but the fucking Russian sanctions prevent us from buying them. You're stuck with a Swiss Slow Jo or a Botta

This is actually not true at all. Mechanical movements can lose/gain 20 seconds a day and that's considered acceptable. Quartz watches are considered more accurate.

Yeah it's 34mm. The datejust I have is 36 which I really like. I have pretty small wrists so I was looking for something under 38.

Be grateful for your slender female wrists and the fact that everyone these days wants big watches, brings the price on smaller clocks like your Blancpain down. ;)

You don't want to pay retail for a moon phase.

This. At 6'4 and about 270ish, there is no way I can pull off just about anything under 40mm (although I like a larger watch. Not that crazy oversized Nixon/Fossil/other fashion accessory style stuff).

I've currently got three watches. Two around 43mm (cheap Timex Expidition and Seiko chrono diver) and one around 48mm (Suunto Core all black) and they fit pretty good.

My next watch is going to either be a lower end auto diver (Armida, Oris, Helson, etc) or lower end auto sport/dress watch (Hamilton, used something, used something, etc). Not sure, but I've got a few things on the list before a new watch (unless I can jump on a good deal).
