In my eyes, the problem with thread discussions is that one person will post a negative comment (that kid who says it was funny tanner got booed.....) and then everyone will quote him and counter react, and fail to post how they really feel about the topic, which is what I enjoy reading.
I hope that I have around long enough to know that the majority of this site is smarter then that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so long as it doesn't contain racism, and unnecessary negativism, it should still stand. However, we need to do something about it.
Clearly if that kid thought it was funny, do you think he will care, perhaps even read what you post-quote him? I don't. I am not going to lie, i was that kid once upon a time. Back when I first got into freestyle stuff, I was young, and i just thought everything was funny. I grew up, and I hope this child can as well. There has to be a better system.
I believe its horrible the majority of the crowd boo-ed tanner hall. How can you feel anything by doing that? (I doubt any of you were there watching it, well perhaps a slim proportion - it's a rhetorical question). Like he said: "I have done so much for the sport..." it's true. He has. Anyone who boo's, or who thinks it's funny, has not been around long enough to follow Tanner through a historical timeline. If you don't know what you are talking about, why are you talking? Remember when you mom told you when you grew up to think before you talk. Guess what? Tanner isn't the only one who knows what he is talking about.
I guess this is just really getting to me. It's not like me to write a post like this, but i believe it needed to be said. If I was just a kid in the stands watching tanners run vs. dumonts, i would have enjoyed Dumonts run more, just because of the flashy colors, and the height. That isn't reality. That isn't the truth. That isn't how skiing works.
I guess if skiing is going to keep getting bigger and bigger, there will be more and more less-knowledgeable kids in these forums.
