i found it pretty funny when tanner went to his mom and dad and said how he'd done so much for skiing and then got boo'ed off...

seriously, without jon, where would we be.....still waiting for espn to decide skiing is sick and finally put some footage up

Funny? That was uhhhhh really sad..... that the mob mentality, did that. Tanner really handled it well. I have so much new respect for the guy. That has to be so disheartening for him to have to deal with that.

I feel really bad after watching that. I thought Tanner came off as pretty mature last night for the way he handled everything. Obviously that comment between him and his parents was private and not on live espn television or anything. Definitely have a lot more respect for Tanner now.

tanner deserved the win, simon had the most height, but tanner had the most steeze and tricks. i pity da foo that booed him

simon was obviously the crowd favourite, they started cheering before he even got in the air.

i never said he didnt do anything for our sport, hes probably done more than anyone else, hes made our sport recognized, when people think of skiing they think of tanner and to be fair, hes the best pipe skiier ever, no doubt. yeah he definatly didnt deserve that, no skiier does when they're out doing what they love...I dunno...i just didnt expect him to take it like that..

wow after watching simon's run i can see why folks were disappointed with the results. However, I agree with the standings. Simon's run was just not as technical as Tanner's. 7 hits w/ 2 unnatty vs 5 natty hits. They don't equal out.

i agree with every way that people placed and i'm a big fan of west but i think hatveit should have finished if front of west...

as tanner said, he had 7 hits, spun both ways. he deserved to win without a doubt, Dumonts run was crazy, but not technically as good. all those people booing are just fuckin dumbasses who know fuck all about skiing, i really hope Thall comes back to X next year, it wouldnt be the same without him.

word. he took it really well tho. like skiing is supossed to be a fun sport. its the bias hardcore dumont fans just dont really think of it in perspective. once people start booing and shit it took the fun out of it for tanner so he couldnt really enjoy it as much. to shameee!

sick run man

Well I dunno about you, but if I had just won the fucking X games super pipe and people were booing me... Id be pretty bummed as well. Doesn't matter what you have done or how old you are but when times are rough its nice to have support from your family and I can respect that Tanner feels the same way.

man, that shits so weak. tanner is SUCH a good skier, and really, a pretty down to earth guy, especially nowadays. to boo off a legend of the sport is just fucking disrespectful. very lame guys.

In my eyes, the problem with thread discussions is that one person will post a negative comment (that kid who says it was funny tanner got booed.....) and then everyone will quote him and counter react, and fail to post how they really feel about the topic, which is what I enjoy reading.

I hope that I have around long enough to know that the majority of this site is smarter then that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so long as it doesn't contain racism, and unnecessary negativism, it should still stand. However, we need to do something about it.

Clearly if that kid thought it was funny, do you think he will care, perhaps even read what you post-quote him? I don't. I am not going to lie, i was that kid once upon a time. Back when I first got into freestyle stuff, I was young, and i just thought everything was funny. I grew up, and I hope this child can as well. There has to be a better system.

I believe its horrible the majority of the crowd boo-ed tanner hall. How can you feel anything by doing that? (I doubt any of you were there watching it, well perhaps a slim proportion - it's a rhetorical question). Like he said: "I have done so much for the sport..." it's true. He has. Anyone who boo's, or who thinks it's funny, has not been around long enough to follow Tanner through a historical timeline. If you don't know what you are talking about, why are you talking? Remember when you mom told you when you grew up to think before you talk. Guess what? Tanner isn't the only one who knows what he is talking about.

I guess this is just really getting to me. It's not like me to write a post like this, but i believe it needed to be said. If I was just a kid in the stands watching tanners run vs. dumonts, i would have enjoyed Dumonts run more, just because of the flashy colors, and the height. That isn't reality. That isn't the truth. That isn't how skiing works.

I guess if skiing is going to keep getting bigger and bigger, there will be more and more less-knowledgeable kids in these forums.

mad props to tanner, even though i think dumont shoulda taken it, i like tanner now. i found it respectable that he didnt do anything dumb like flip the booers off like mike vick. i dont see why everyone hates him so much. imagine if you threw down a sick run and got booed just because the judges might not have made the right call.

just watched a video on skipass.com

Kevin rolland had a slight knee injury on one of the practise runs, he said it wasnt too bad but didnt want to put the rest of his season in doubt, and he'll be back next year. he also said he thought tanner deserved to win, as his run was more tech.

I agree that I have even more respect for Tanner after watching that, not that I have every really lost respect for the guy. He is one of the best in the sport and proved it again with an amazing run.

Personally I think that Simon's last run deserved better than a 91 and should have pushed him a head of Tanner.....making Tanners prove that he deserved gold b/c I think his 2nd run was nowhere near as good as Simon's 3rd.

All personal opinion......I don't agree with ppl booing Tanner, and the booing should have been directed solely at the judges (along with the snowballs that were being thrown, classic).

It sucks that Tanner has decided to compete only in this event for the year.....great competition is what this sport needs to keep progressing, and the pipe battle between Hall and Dumont is a lot of fun to watch.

Side note:

Y the fuck do they always score Hatveit, he starts and ends his runs switch.....tell me who else can does that in competition? If the judges are scoring higher in technique Hatveit deserved third.

That would have been a hard decision to make for the judges because both Tanner and Simon put together two completely different runs. Simon's no doubt was a crowd pleaser, that guy boosted so far out and he would have had the gold in the bag if he did some alley oops or technical grabs. Tanner on the otherhand didn't boost quite so high but he put together a solid bag of tricks with a wide variety of variations, that was a judge pleaser.

I have never liked Tanner but I have always liked what he brought to the sport. I don't like Simon at all, I don't like his style or his attitude. Mad props to Tanner for keeping himself together after getting boo'ed, +100% in my books.

Taken from the ESPN site...

Simons Says "Nope!"

January 24th, 4:00 pm

With all the Tanner vs. Simon buildup to tonight's SuperPipe Final, I thought I'd give a quick call to Simon to see if I could flesh out any sort of quality nuggets in regards to his gameplan for this evening. Now understand that I know Simon, and although I wouldn't call him a good friend, he's usually open and relatively accommodating for an interview or a friendly chat. But today, it was not the case. Here's the conversation I had with Simon Dumont around the lunch hour today:

*Ring, ring, click*

John Stifter

Simon to John: This is me vibing you. Can you feel me? How 'bout now? Can you feel me now?

Simon answers: Hello?

Me: Simon, hey, it's Johnny from expn.com. I know you're busy, but I just want to ask a few questions about tonight.

Simon: Nope.

*Click* [Simon hangs up]

I don't blame him for hanging up. In fact, I'm kinda glad he did in a way. I know the kid wants to win so badly that he's just simply tired of talking about it and Tanner. Thanks again, Simon!

What a prick move that was, I know the guy has to be disapointed but this is the attitude I have always seen reflected by this guy. Great PR Simon!

To bad Kevin Rolland got injured, but I think he will be back next year to win a medal for sure!

Tanner deserved the win, but I still dont like the guy...

Simons run was uber sweet and he went huge but his second run last year i think was the best so far, and i thought the crowd booing tanner was just uncool. More respect for tanner now but still think simon shoulda won it last year.

So true. Tanner getting booed last night made me sick to my stomache. It's equivalent to if Tom brady gets booed next Sunday when he wins the Superbowl. How can you do that to someone, on that stage? He just won his 3rd x-games gold in pipe in a row and you are going to boo him? He just won the biggest comp on face of the planet for skiing, the equivalent imo of winning an olympic gold medal and you are going to boo him? These people deserve to be shot. It is fucking bullshit. Someone said that he just didn't expect "tanner to act that way". Well how would you act, if you just won the biggest contest in the world in skiing, a fucking olympic gold medal and you got booed by the majority of the crowd.

Those people are sheep. It's just like porn, everyone wants to see the big dick and the drenching face shot (Simon), they don't care about the actual content (Tanner).

Tanner is the greatest skier the sport has ever seen, I've always believed that, and I believe it even more after watching what went down last night. Nobody is so stylee, so skilled, and so consistent in so many different aspects of the sport.

It's so sad somebody like that got so heavily disrepspected in their moment of glory.

I think simon should have takin it he bursted out of the pipe 21 feet, thats crazy. It was funny tho cause tanner was all depressed cause people were booing him. Its not a bad thing he won just i think simon should have insted

Note the date? That was yesterday BEFORE the finals. He was focussing on the comp and didn't want to talk about it to some dude from espn.

My mistake on the time, but he still didn't have to be a complete and total douche, even a "Sorry I don't feel up to answering any questions right now" would have been a hell of a lot better. still an asshole

that crowd was bullshit, hall deserved the win, so much more techy.

dumonts run was crazy but his entire run is built to please the crowd. if he wants to win he needs to focus on right side....
