VW owners thread

I have an 03 Golf and Its an excellent ride. Performs well in the snow, great gas mileage, somewhat easy to maintain not too many huge mechanical issues, and mad fun to drive around.

However the biggest downside is that I have found it to consume engine oil incredibly fast and every 500-1000 miles or so I have to constantly top it off. I did some research on this and supposedly this is a common problem with early 2000 Golf/Gti models. During manufacturing VW installed the piston rings backwards or some shit and that is the origin to the problem. If it was still under factory warranty I could get this taken care of which it obviously isnt since I bought it used and the cost to fix it would be way too expensive. Kind of confused to why they didnt do a recall but whatever. Mine still runs like a champ.

Anyone else who owns an early 2000 golf have similar issues?

2003 golf gls, just changed the oil at almost 5k miles and it was still reading a good level every time I checked it since 3k. what model golf is it?

also wondering what you're getting for mileage. im getting 26-29, mainly backroads/city and I haven't gotten my tires swapped yet.

Mine is a gls as well. Do you experience similar issues with oil consumption?

I get around 30 mpg and drive almost always backroads

well its basically a vw...my 08 s-line 2.0t a4 6mt, intake and tsi diverter valve, going to chip it this summer with unitronic, and catback exhaust, getting the better kmd tuning cam follower installed very soon, and tsi coil packs

nope, never had to top it off at any point in those 5k miles between oil changes. those were also the first 5k i put on it so it may just be a matter of time though (it only has 58k on it as well, once again, could be a matter of time)

I got a 98 golf 1.8 in october, replaced some stuff and tuned it in a little, so i qualify:

It's rough, but I'm playing with some new paint equipment and learning some bodywork, taking out some hail damage and stuff, dunno if I'll get into mods or not, more of a truck guy (body swap, dodge dakota onto old power ram is in my binoculars)

also, here's a pic message i recently received of a squirrel getting quality time

my girl :) shes a mk2 vr6 swap and she was quick. the car next to mine is a mk4 jetta wagon and that thing is sick too. both cars no longer owned by the owners in the picture sadly, and man i wish i never let her go. hopefully picking up a e30 or another dub soon, hopefully a rrado.

for those who know what im saying,mk3 cluster and transmission, mk3 vr6, original bbs rm's (15" and a bitch to find tires for), borla exhaust that made her sound like a fiesty wookie,

so much hate for vw's...i just like them, they aren't the best but I enjoy them.

here's my 97' w/ 187k right now. thing is a machine, perfect ski and bike car, has plenty of power to rip up and down mtn passes (why outbacks can suck in the mtns). used to have side exit exhaust in front of the drivers side rear tire. then it just got ridiculous/old and went more traditional.

gettin raceland ultimos for my gti in a few weeks, any one have them? i think im probably gonna lower it like 2.5 inches so its not to low but might go more, and any suggestions on exhaust

racelands are solid. and as far as exhaust goes, find a local performance auto shop to do it for you in a legit way, mandrel bent and nothing but pipe if you can get away with it, and any magnaflow muffler will do.

thank me later.

now my engine is stuttering like its out of gas, (as of last week). i put seafoam in there with a fresh tank, cause i think an injector is plugged. no change yet. code says fuel mix too lean/rich, wut make up your mind. any similar occurences?

When I was a kid my family had a 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon Carat

Shit was so cash, I wish I had it.
