Vote for Barack=Vote Against the Constitution

Are you or are you not advocating that people should not be allowed to carry firearms? I think the current policy is fine. The burden of proof is on you in this regard.

And it is up to the American population to determine if your opinion is in a majority or the minority.

what about police officers? Every now and then there is some incident where a cop shoots somebody because they "seem" sketchy, then do no jail time because they are officers.

or the guy in NYC who was shot 40 some odd times by cops because he pulled out his wallet. aka they shot him cuz he was black... they got off

Well, when somebody comes up to you and says, "NYPD," running from them is not a good idea. And when they say to put your hands up, reaching into your pocket is also a bad idea.

I'm not saying the Diallo shooters were right or that they should have gotten off, but there's two sides to every story...more to this one than "They shot him cuz he was black."

Bad people are still going to have guns both illegally and legally (mostly illegally though). There's no way to stop that. I should be able to have a gun (legally) just in case a bad person with a gun tries to kill me. I know that there are many scenarios, but I mean...just in case I might be able to have a fighting chance.

There are no bad guns, just bad people.

now i know you are crazy, you mean to tell me that guns dont get out of the safe, run down the street and shoot people?

you are trying to say that someone pulls the trigger?

wow, that is crazy talk.....

So the parents, whose naturally curious children find and play with their guns and have them accidentally go off in thier playmates face... yeah, okay.

Having more guns around is inviting more accidental deaths. More so I would bet than the lives they might save.

That's not my fault. That's the ignorant parents' fault. Don't take my gun away because of stupid people. You don't leave your gun lying around so kids can get their hands on it. Those parents don't even deserve those kids.

but there were stupid actions, or decisions that led to that "accident" (in most cases) now lets look at some of the possible actions that could have led to having a gun go off, and a child ending up dead, this is a terrible occurence, and it happened not to long ago in a small town 5 miles from me...

was the gun locked up correctly? prob not..

gun safe?

trigger lock?

not letting your kids know where the gun is kept?

there are plenty of ways to keep guns and children apart, and it is the responsibility of the gun owner to keep them out of the reach of children...

o, just so everyone knows, i dont own a gun.... my dad used to own one, but i havent seen it, or heard about it in over 8 years.... so i am reasonably sure that there is not even ONE gun in my home...

Any parent who thinks it's a good idea to buy guns, hide them in the house, and pretend they don't exist doesn't deserve to have children.

If you're going to have children and firearms under the same roof, you need to educate your kids about guns. If they know what they are, what they are used for, and why the should be kept in a safe place, they're much less likely to discover them by chance in mom and dad's closet and accidentally shoot someone.

I think Aspen's right here - all gun accidents CAN be blamed on stupidity. If the gun is locked up securely, it's not gonna hurt anyone. If it's not, someone did something VERY stupid.

as cruel as this sounds, educating children about guns can be pretty easy....

i will never forget, as an 8 year old, my grandpa took me out to their backyard in SD, where all sorts of animals would wreck their lawn.... he shot a gopher (if i remember correctly) made me look at it, and help clean it up then he told me, "this is what guns do, now dont you EVER point a gun at anything unless you expect to kill it"

when you are 8 years old, that is a pretty powerful message...

it was over 40 rounds from two cops. that means they reloaded repeatedly. it was cuz hes black. period

I obviously dont see it that way. Besides accidents in the home, what about accidents elsewhere? What if the creepy guy in the parking lot just wants to see if you can call his friend cause he got locked out? Smart people can still overreact inappropriately. I just dont feel safe if I live in a world where everyones packin.

That's just overreacting, and that would be a stupid mistake. With guns being legalized (for sure) not everyone is going to be packin'. Like right now. Not everyone is packin'.

So when that robber breaks in, you can rest assured that he'll be upon you, or out the door, by the time you are ready to take the gun out of the case.

It takes too much effort to make guns safe to make them a good way to keep yourself and children safe.

They make cases for superfast and easy access just for that.

And it's not hard to take the safety off - at all. Unless you are a complete n00b.

Practice taking out the gun, taking the safety off and pointing. Easy as pie.

I've had a fingerprint scanner like that before, and they arent quick and easy. You need clean fingers and have to slowly swipe your finger over it. And my sister could often get it to work on a scanner registered to me. Good luck doing that while being assaulted.

Nooooo, it's easy if you practice taking it off.

Second, if a child is having easy access to a gun then that parent or guardian needs to have their kids taken away from them.

"Oh God, there's someone there! Dammit, why won't you open, blasted case? AH! Invalid ID? Who? The Cheeto Cheetah?? Dammit, my late night snacks will be the end of me!!!!"

Well there is always under the bed, closet shelf or bathroom shelf. There's no little kiddies in my house so I don't need to worry about a little one hurting themselves.

this might be a little foreign to you citizens of the concrete jungle, but in the rest of america, there are bears, wolves, cougars, bobcats, and all sorts of fun creatures running around. heck even a little mule doe would rear up and beat the shit outta you if it felt threatened. after my first close bear encounter mountain biking in twisp this summer, my kimber comes along every time i go ride or hike after work. those of you in the cities/burbs may think its crazy. everyone else out here does it too.

maybe instead of silly new laws like outlawing gun stores within 5 miles of parks and schools (look up obama's voting history on this issue).....that beat around the bush and essentially outlaw all guns instead of addressing the problem......what we need is a much much higher punishment for the possession of a handgun by a minor. some sort of higher deterrent. 20 years in jail and force them to pay the bill. thats a much larger risk than some bs "i made a mistake and im sorry" so they get 2 years in juvi.
