Vegetate Registration open!

^ ah cmon, it still is haha. im entering this year, anyone know if its gonna be in the halfpipe thats set up right now or are they gonna do something different for it?

i know we really need some slopestyle there. It's the best event with the most people actually somewhat good at it.

hasnt been a slopestyle in what? 4 years? So its silly to be so surprised.

Would be nice if they brought it back next year or something, but the pipe and rail events are usually pretty fun

hate to say it bud but all a protest will do is give them less incentive to do anything for skiers in the future. it happned some where in washington i think because people would not show up to events so they stopped allowing skiers to do it while increasing the amount of compititions for boarders as well as the prizes because they were showing up.

the best thing we can do is to support it as much as possible that way they will be more willing to do events and if we ask in numbers maybe we can get slopestyle and big air back, but if we dont show up then it is easier for them to just not host it for skiers and not seek sponsors for skiers next year and so on. vegetate is the most skier friedly comp in the northwest, aside from the west coast seshion which isnt even a competition, so you should support it otherwise we wont have it and the younger skiers coming through in the coming years wont have it either, and that would suck way worse than not having just slopestyle.

this shit is cheap and fun to when you put it in perspective.

i coulda sworn they only skipped slopestyle last year and the year before because of weather.....

maybe i heard/saw/experienced wrong...

kinda weak. i guess they just decided that they were successful enough without it so they might as well skip it?i dont know

is there an 18 and under category for the rail jam, cause when i was checking out the registration, it didn't say anything

i saw on matts blog or something that there wont be an AM category this year. Not sure how thats going to pan out, but that should basically suffice as an answer

well right now sammy is in sweden for JOSS so he might not be back in time

personally, i like it when all the big names are there because they push everyone else and its a lot more fun to watch. its not like i'm expecting to win, its a fun day though

You have a good point, but i mean its also kinda depressing, cause as much as you may not have a chance, its nice to go in thinking/pushing yourself like you do have a chance at podium and for me, with a name like carlson there its kinda like "alright well aren't you pro already? isnt part of this comp that the winner has the opportunity for a sponsorship or atleast get some younger or new names some exposure? doesnt a big name like that draw away the attention that was hopefully going to be given to the young or new names?"

just my two cents. if he showed up its not like id refuse to compete or i wouldnt have fun. it would just change the approach to the competition.

and in second place is... uh.... hmm.....

uh....

well....

I guess I am just not used to seeing this guys name in some place other then first....

Tommy Ellingson!

and in first Grant Domer. (2x speed)

cool. they haven't had a slopestyle in almost 5 years. do you know why? because it is hard to draw crowds up the mountain to the venue, such as a slopestyle course. the problem is not with meadows, but with the main sponsors for the event the will not support it unless they draw a large crowd which they can only do at base area events. its business, get over it

i think that dirtyslime or whoever the hell he is made a good point: all a protest would do is just encourage them NOT to hold a slopestyle, NOR anything else if turnout was really low. And he's right about what happened in washington. At snoqualmie Pass, only 2 events are for skiers in a given season, but thats more of a gesture. There are many other comps that they hold, where prizes are well over anything else in the region because they routinely get like 50+ people.

Our best mechanism is a show in numbers. We get the numbers, they can have the justification for having more events. I would also like to see a slopestyle, but it has to be worth it to them, and more importantly, the sponsors, for it to happen. What incentive do they have putting several thousand dollars and effort into an event and only 4 people show up? What kind of audience does that draw? It is basically a waste. So many of you are so narrow minded that you cannot see what is really necessary for a competition, especially one that is 1) well put together, 2) is fun, and 3) one that has good prizes and cash. Hell, skiers are treading on thin ice in the area because they don't turn out. In the end, some pussification would seem more like an explanation rather than "protest."

And by the way, having a "NS sesh" at timby doesn't really seem like a worthy alternative considering there will be the NS West Coast session in a few weeks, which will vastly exceed anything you guys could conjure up by yourselves. Seize it while you can, otherwise you might be protesting Meadows because they don't have Vegetate (or similar) at all. How fun would that be.

Enjoy what they give you. The pipe and rail jam are usually super fun, and always a great opportunity. I get sick of hearing people complaining about meadows because they "suck". They can't suck that bad if you guys keep buying season passes from them, and keep skiing there. Just make the best of what you have and realize that meadows is not going to spend money on something that won't help their business.

a meeting at timby is basicaly for any one who isnt going to vegetate. i was basicaly just talking to some guys and it soumded like there would be a little crew up there. i thought it would be fun to see if any one else wanted to go up and get a ns crew together, with no big expectations or any thing just a group of likeminded skis. i was mearly joking about a "protest". i so wish it was easier to show sarcasim or joking on the internet. ha. oh well. the vegetate is a good event and i suport it i just wont be there this year cause of money.

oh shit last day for advanced registration. there are a shit ton of snowboarders already signed up. more skiers would be excellent
