Vail now owns Afton Alps

Comin out tomorrow! I'm excited to see the changes from last year and to hit all the new features!

See ya there

I was there from like 12-4, but I only saw two skiers in the park.

Somebody with a blue saga on deck/shutout (don't know the difference) and another guy with a red and white suit.

I spun a jump bigger than like 20 feet so there's my accomplishment for the day, and yeah and I got my first 270 on a rail! That was nice

I was wearing a dark green armada hoodie because it was really warm if any of you saw me

I was there till 4 with other skiers... We were seshin the handrail and stuff. We didn't hit the jumps later in the day but we were there at the rails.

every rail was sticky when i was there because it was 40º and snowing.... i really want to hit those rails when they're nice... :(

Yeah I definitely missed out on that.. would've been a lot of fun. And I was not even aware that the rope broke at one point

and Lick, were you just lapping the jumps?

Yeah the jumps and I was headin through that box park quite a bit. The park with the rope was so crowded, too much for my liking, way different than what I'm used to in wisconsin. Also, the last box that was sort of a cannon in the box park underneath the chairlift is so fun.! that thing was just set up for spins out. I kept trying 6s off but could never get it

Yeah there was some stupid comp. it's not usually that crowded. Yeah i stopped through that park a bit, it's super fun, and you're right! That box is really trickable

Was there from about 10-2 on Saturday and was lapping the jumpline for about the whole time in a maroon Oakley coat with black snowpants. Those landings could be a bit steeper and more frequently maintained, but that's my only complain. The jumps there and that wall ride feature account for the most fun I've had skiing this year. Awesome job Afton.

Yeah man I saw you throw one cork 9 right when I got there but then didn't see you after that. That was sick , I wish I was better at inverts/off axis things and less scared :(

This, I tried a few flat spins this year. Scared as hell first attempt but then idgaf. Just say "fuck it, huck it."

Exactly how I felt when I was first learning spins. It just takes time.. and I've tried a few lincoln loops but washed out on the landing everytime. that was last season, now I just have to find a nice jump for it

same, but rails are usually horrible in those conditions, everything else is amazing (especially the jumps). it's the perfect chance to toss new stuff.

It can when the air where the clouds are is below freezing. Just doesn't happen too often, I may have been stretching, the temp was probably more around 36º.

I don't want to either, even though we could haha, nothing beats warm skiing. Two years ago I got to ski in 76° on closing day (March 17th) at Giants Ridge, way too much fun. The inrun to the jump line had grass on it.

can i just bump this and say afton fucking sucks? because afton fucking sucks.

Why the hate? I thought Afton was one of the more fun places to ski last year. Yes, the jumps could've been better and they could have improved on a few things. I really liked Afton's park overall.

I actually came on here just to see if there was any updates on their park for this year. Any word on the new park?

It's kinda my schtick.

HATE

HAR

DER.

but seriously afton sucked. No flow at all in the park. AND half the time the good features weren't even set up.

Also how is it there in general? How does management feel about the parks. Hows the scene?

Is it bulletproof ice all the time?

Hows the park been the last couple of seasons?

the last couple seasons there have been insane. hands down the most fun parks ive ridden. constant resets and new features being put out. unfortunate their day pass is way too much though

U can poach the rope park tho

It should be good. I was a park groomer at Wilmot last winter. My boss at Wilmot is know in charge of all the parks at all the urban resorts that vail owns. So I would anticipate more good things this winter. Wilmot got some of the US open rails this summer. I believe some are going to the other 2 resorts too.

Word word. I've never ridden either of those but I did follow Afton a bit when VR first bought them and keystone built them all those rails.

Samething at Wilmot Kestone and Parkcity built a bunch of rails for last season. Was almost had to many rails and not enough space.

True true.

Both of them have spots open running the parks. Might consider Afton. Leaning more towards some other stuff but you never know.

Found this thread and figured I'd grab some deetz about the mtn.
