UVM Vs. BOULDER

its the last few days before i need to decide where i want to go... I reaally like both schools, and im not totally sure what i want to do. So yes NS I turn to you, point me in the right direction. They are very similiar places, except for size. CU- 30,000 UVM- 10,000If any boulder freshies could tell about there class experiences that would be great, specifically how big their classes were.

So i'm from Middlebury (im assuming you're from vermont) and here were my choices...

UVM, Boulder, or the University of Utah

I chose the U because of the skiing. Idk if thats one of your criteria for choosing a school but if so, youre gonna wanna look at Utah. Boulder offers pretty much nothing in terms of skiing, and UVM offers what we are all used to in the east - little snowfall and plenty of bulletproof.

If skiing isnt a determining factor then look at things this way...

Burlington and Boulder are extremely similar. Both downtown areas (Church Street and Pearl Street) were designed by the same architect and urban planner and are nearly mirrors of each other and both cities are also extremely dope places to live (i spent a week in boulder last year and have spent years in burlington). There's plenty to do in either cities and both schools are sick as well. Having grown up in Vermont though, i think you will want to get out and see more of the country. Go to boulder, you aren't going to miss anything you have now in vermont and you will be going to a killer school.

i just enrolled at UVM.

I really like the size, and i am willing to comprimise the skiing for an educational experience that will suite me better.

I am about to enroll at UVM.

For me, it wasn't a choice between CU and UVM, but I know that I will be close to home (somewhat, I'm 3.5 hours away) and I will experience a different culture at UVM. I didn't want large classes, but I also didn't want classes of 15. I will be a business administration major at UVM, and I hope that I will be able to get a job in ski resort management at a resort here in the Northeast.

Also, UVM is a very good state school - its been called a "public ivy".

For the record I am from PA, so I know what shitty skiing is like. And I am willing to sacrifice skiing for other stuff. It just seems like UVM is the smarter choice considering the size-which directly relates to the education... and im in the business program at UVM...not at boulder. ALL the kids at UVM seemed very together and cool, reaaalllly all the girls were fine even more so than boulder.

actually yes way haha.

btw, From looking at your profile, I'm pretty sure i know you. your jake right? haha i rode with you at hn, and a little at big boulder in november. herro friend!

no his name is ax, not jake.

and yeah uvm isnt that hard, but if you take the right classes with the good professors you learn a ton and its way worthwhile.

boulder blows, well it's ok if you SoCal without the ocean. I'm transferring out of CU next year. 2 hour drives to the mountains kill me

I go to UVM..... its awesome..... im sure boulder is too but im an east coaster and wanted to stay on the east coast. After this weekend, everyone should want to come here.

my good friend is in the process of transferring out of CU because he really didn't like it. He said it was a HUGE waste of money because hte profs aren't very good, its a really expensive school, the classes are way too big and overall he didn't like the people. He generalized teh people as rich fake hippies who just want to smoke weed and not really go to school. Personally, I'd pick UVM. Skiing is closer to UVM, from what i hear its better academically and everybody i know who goes there likes it and says its pretty cool

To alev up there, my name actually is jake. And yea dude I remember you will, thats tight your going to UVM!

yea i jsut decided to goto uvm next year....hope that a 08/09 $250 mad river, jay bolton pass is still good next year

i drove with tons of people but they usually ended up sucking at skiing or snowboarding, just posers.... which is why I hate Boulder Freeride now

Burlington is rated #5 college town in america (I think?)

for a reason though.... sitting on my front porch on main street, sipping heady brews watching the sunset go down over the lake. dope

the truth is that ur gonna get pretty much the same thing at both schools. good education, good party scene, hot girls, skiing, etc. but you should go to boulder cuz the west coast is better for skiing and life in general (no bias...)

it depends where you live, I'm from MA and when I was in high school going 2000 miles away was a little scary. looking back now I wish i had gone to CU but, UVM is still awesome. Burlington is basically a smaller version of boulder

Don't let NS be your deciding factor, just know the following: boulder has better skiing, better weather, and hotter girls. burlington has a lot of hippies (as does boulder, but burlington has more), but it is a smaller school and it is closer to skiing. the weather sucks from about october to april, whereas in boulder, it will either be sunny or snowing during this period. the academics are comparable, cu has really good engineering and they both have great business schools. obviously, uvm is way closer if you are on the east, but you'll get used to flying if you go to cu and you're from the east. When i was deciding between the two, i read so much hate about boulder on NS, and i still chose to go there. looking back, it was the best decision i've ever made. Just do what feels right, you'll have a blast at either.

I have always heard Boulder was better academically, but i bet they are roughly the same. You really should visit both. Being from Colorado, i'd rather go to CU, but it all comes down to what you want, and since they are both state schools they are going to have larger classes than a small private school. And to whoever said smaller schools are better academically, thats not true. There are plenty of really good, big schools, it's all about personal preference.

well most those kids suck dood like thats why you hate socal kids...yeah man i am soo sick i ski like 10 times a yea...boulder is a big school you get the university experience but its small in a way cause you see a lot of kids you know while walking around but i like big schools sooo it doesn't bother me

hey im deciding between those...

i think im going to uvm tho, cuz i live in vt so its like 1/2 the price which means more ski stuff and less tuition.

ther both nice though, so i really cant answer the question for you...

got into kittredge west hall at boulder, im from vt and been to uvm a bunch and heard it was the same as boulder almost, hopefully its all true.

go to boulder i live there and it is sick the skiing is rad as hell and pearl street is way sick and CU is great i would def go to boulder

my mom says i cant apply to UC Boulder becuase its too big a party school, but she will let me apply to UVM, why do think that is?

the same architect designed both towns, so the towns are the same. uvm is a way smaller nice school, but worse skiiing. thats my take

since when do your parents decide on where you can apply to college where you will further YOUR education. do what you want

U of Utah: skiing 30 mins away. really good steeps/cliffs and tons of powder, parks not as good as in CO, and the people and living in salt lake city sucks ass.

CU: boulder is a cool town, skiing more like 1.5-2 hours, parks are insanely good, not as much pow as UT, but i think better well rounded.

UVM: why go east coast if you want to ski?
