USA. **** your army

that wasnt Iraq....Afghanistan and for that matter Al-quadea.....and as far as im concerned that was the bush administration

Oh my god. They came on our soul. 3k people died max. We've done so much worse shit all over the place. And it's not like we weren't already over there before 911.

I didnt read the whole thread because i would have been even more pissed then after just reading the ignorant thread title. To the Op, You clearly know nothing about the situation and would have been shitting yourself if you were in the situation they were placed in. next time, do a little bit of reading up on the topic before you post a bull shit and piss a slew of people off. thanks

There def are a shitload of hole, and coincidences in the official story. We'll never really know extactly how it went down.

not even close to as many as stalin or the japanese. the japanese massacred 300,000 people during world war 2. ya we dropped the bomb, but theres been worse

it also says people of the book (jews & christians) are to be treated with respect, what ever happened to believing in those verses.

it didnt look like the individuals in the street were taking the situation that serious, they were just calmly walking across the street with assault rifles. I dont know much about the Iraqi people or the daily conflict on the ground, but why were they just roaming about the streets in open.

Yeah god forbid they wanted to walk around in the streets in the open. Iraqi people should all be ducking in houses and fearing the hard iron fist of democracy.
I didn't see any assault rifles in there? They said weapon, apparently it was a camera. Could be mistaken but still. I think it's quite obvious that none of us know the context of the situation. It looks like they surpassed the rules of engagement but they quite possibly could have abused that.
Astomp, good luck over there man. Afghanistan needs a lot of help and I hope you represent the US like most have over there and do well. I mean this with the most respect possible because I think higher of you than most people on here, but seriously why would you say "I would obliterate 3 generations to save one person". I understand losing someone is hard, but that comment just isn't necessary. I could never value the life of an American soldier over the life of an innocent person. I mean no harm to American soldiers at all. The only thing I am saying is that I see people as people. I don't think any US soldier should have anymore propensity advantage to life than anyone misfortunate enough to be born in Afghanistan, but hey that's just me. I hope I am just taking that remark out of context.

What battle?

Oh the one where the big US chopper was mowing down civilians and reporters, because their cameras conveniently looked like AK's and RPG's. Hah this is such bullshit this thread is full of people who can't think for themselves.

But don't worry guys its not their fault they were protecting us back home. Maybe they should have taken a few seconds to chill the fuck out and actually take a look at what was going on before they decided to unleash some hell.

War is terrible. I feel no greater shame in the human race than when I see people take each others lives with a smile on their face. Politics aside, at the very least, take this video as a warning to the horrors of war.

Saw this on the front page of nytimes.com this morning.

Sickening. The only way that war can occur is in removal from those who fund and profit from it. If every person in America had to watch all that actually occurs, we'd never have an armed conflict again.

I know that there are lots of good people in our military that are doing their jobs correctly. WWII was the last war that we've fought that was conscionable. Since then, their jobs have involved killing people in wars that have nothing to do with my personal freedoms or liberties. There's no honor or glory in such callously wasted life, nothing worth celebrating or commemorating.

maybe this is an argument you should address your local lawmakers with? they're the ones writing the job descriptions...

i would never in a million years join the military, but i have mad respect for those who do. we would have a military regardless of war or peace, no reason to hate on those who serve - hate on the ones making their agenda.

yeah i apologize for the heat of that comment. i love my guys dearly. i would rather make a mistake one that i could hold myself to then make one that costs my friends there lives. in reality i would be so scared in a situation like that. it was stupid. i tried to strongly to get my point across of the team the military is. sorry again.

after an rpg has been shot at you before, and how fast someone turns a corner and fires, there is only a few seconds to decide if what you see is a threat. Most of these tragedies come from split second decisions, because they have to.

I guarantee the vast majority of troops would take back civilian kills if they could, but in that split second where it is me or them, shit like this happens.

Don't blame the troop, blame the government if anything for putting him in that situation.

ill just leave this here

I do blame our government and ultimately I feel bad for what a lot of our troops are forced to endure because of the decisions of a few individuals. However if you listen to the audio in the video the soldiers in the chopper are joking around and laughing about the death of these people. Even if they were "insurgence" the taking of ones life should not be joke/laughing matter.

But I guess what ever helps a person sleep at night. It's sad that humans have to kill each other to solve our differences.

A lot of people have made some stupid comments on this one. everyone jumps to the conclusion that they are big bad motherfuckers who are there to kill everyone. think about it if you saw someone with a gun and you had one too and it looked like they were pointing it at you would you pull the trigger? all those men were trying to do was defend themselves. if you lived everyday of your life in fear it would be your last i think everyone here would have pulled the trigger. also all this talk about how the cameras looked like rpgs well lets all think about it your probably a few thousand feet away where you cant see much fine detail. coupled with the fact they could shoot you down and kill you would add up to anyone who is human trying to defend themselves. also how do you know that who ever did shoot those people doesnt feel like shit for killing someone innocent? think about how things can be played up by the media to play shit however they want it to be played. like they could take a story of a legitimate kill in war and say that who ever got killed was murdered and leave out a shit load of facts that would completly change everything. even if you dont support the war support those who are brave enough to put their lives on the line everyday to do something. blame who ever you want say what ever you want just have the respect to not blame those who are fighting the war.

I think what you said at the end there is spot on. I have a friend who used to talk like that, and he is in a bottomless pit of sorrow now. The psychology of a soldier is something that I don't think any of us can understand because the experience is so unique. Given the situation however, I can imagine a lot of things are said in order to convince themselves that their actions were just. I don't know and could not possibly ever know without doing it myself, what it feels like to take another humans life. The trauma that must occur is something on a whole different level. From what I have got from my friends over that have killed, is that their minds will never be the same, and that they have sever difficulty fully appreciating the consequences of their actions. The way my best friend described it was that what he did, while all of his kills were insurgents, was something that he cannot ever undo. The images of the events haunt him, and while he recognizes it was a human life he took, convincing himself the other guys were going to kill him or his brothers help him accept his actions.

Talk helps people cope, and helps put on a front that they are not scared about whats happening around, the goal being to keep them sane and function in a battle environment. We cannot know what goes through the heads of our soldiers without having been there ourselves. To blame the soldiers for these tragedies I think is an unjust claim. They follow orders, and they react to actions, we cannot know their situations. It is easy to call them out from the comfort of our own homes, but being placed in the same situation our self may produce entirely different perspective.

Sure there are some bad apples, but for the majority, they are just fighting to keep themselves and the troops around them alive.

And I see you are from Utah, you have been getting absolutely dumped on, you should be sleeping right now to rest up for the goods tomorrow at either snowbird or alta. Happy face shots.

Ah yeah man I lived in SLC last winter however I am living in Los Angeles these days, unfortunately I have not skied this season trying to get my acting carer going.

well after reading a few things written by combat pilots currently in afghanistan, they did everything following the rules of engagement properly.

What people should remember is that yes, it's easy to identify what they are carrying as cameras when the video circles them, tells you what they are, and tells you these men are photographers. Try doing that in a little helicopter over a combat zone with just a few seconds to do it. And if you misidentify it, there's a good chance people could die. Not so easy now.

You expect this to be a fair fight like some peewee football game?
They wait a few seconds and one of those bastards on the ground decided to launch an rpg up at the heli bringing it down...get real you fucking coward
You don't have time to second guess yourself over there if you do not only do you die but you put other troops in harms way as well...this isnt call of duty where you couch potatoes who live in your mothers basement just get another try this is real life and these men and women put their lives in danger every single day

You guys are all absolutly right. When I wake up in the morning I can't wait to go kill kill kill.

Of course, when you look at a video now in 2010, when Iraq is a pretty stable place, it can be hard to remember back to 2007 when Iraq was supper fucked up. You know when they had secretarian death squads roaming the place. Just killing anyone who was shi'a/sunni depending on what sect the death squad was from. Units were getting hit by as many as 10 IED's a day. The population won't help you out. Won't tell you who is planting bombs in their town even though they fucking saw the dudes plant them. It is really easy to start to think that everyone is against you. If they know the bombs there and don't do anything about it, that is like watching a murder and not saying anything.

Was the attack the right thing to do? No. But it is easy to see how guys who just had their buddies blown up in that neck of the woods three days ago might be a bit trigger jumpy when they think they see a group of armed men.

all i can say is being in a war torn environment has to be incredibly desensitizing. if you were away from home for years and around that environment all the time it would be hard to be indifferent to an enemies death. even if they posed no threat how would a soldier know, my life is a lot important than theirs i would feel. its not like the enemy is wearing uniforms.

don't try to bring religion into this. especially with the crusades. if you ever read the bible you would know there is nothing that would support them. lots of things were done in the name of God; its a good front for personal glory and conquest.

its unfortunate that things like this happen but thats war. it happened in ww2, it will probably always happen. the only difference is that reporters are a dime a dozen and and we can watch a war from our tv or computer now and be informed the day events occur. no i dont like war but i know its necessary, we might not be there for the right reason. we can speculate all day, if saddam wasnt removed the rest of the world would probably be complaining about the US not stepping in and stopping him from massacuring his own people. because as we all know the US can do no right

This just about sums it up. The media can twist whatever they want and the general public is left to bicker without getting all the facts. Quality post.

Weapons were found at the scene. The reporters were with an actively engaged groupe of insurgents. Funny how the video is edited to cut that out.
