USA vs. CANADA

more was gained from landing on the moon than almost any other scientific experiment. It did come at a huge cost, and was far from profitable, but the entire apollo project advanced science absurdly fast.

I think you're carrying over my illusion of exitement from the Terry fox thing.

I've just wondered about this for a while now.

Well unless you want to see how the space program pushed the miniaturization of computers and electronics, pushed the boundaries of navigation and communication as well as ovecoming several engineering, mathematical and prototyping obstacles...

So yeah, you can pretty much thank the space program for pushing technology in the direction that brought you your smartphone, navigation, computers, anything involving satellites or wireless communication. But then again, what are all those? You're right, the space program has been useless and has never led to anything worthwhile. Not like Canadian bacon anyways.

this. plus the space program is just plain badass and awesome, thats all that matters to me, what it did for technology and everything else is just a nice bonus. i dont see how anyone except for extremely boring, negative, shitty life living assholes could think the space program was a "waste".

I didn't watch the video entirely but thats bullshit. I promise you these people no nothing about what they are talking about....

Would they prefer seal farming?

My sister lived in a seal hunting town for an exchange in quebec. And what she said was the clubbing technique is not painful. And since the walrus population has diminished the seal population needs to be kept undercontrol to keep the fish from being extinct.

Could you repeat that? Sorry, I couldn't hear you I was bludgeoning a seal with a club...

really tho, has a seal clubber EVER gotten laid??? I mean, what girl is going to not be appalled when she asks what you do and you tell her "I bash in seals' heads all day! I'm wicked awesome at it!"

I would prefer seal farming.

The main fucked up thing I saw in the video is they just left the carcasses. Sadly the U.S. doesn't have much room to talk.

I doubt the seals could force any fish into extinction.

Sparknotes for thread:
Yea patriotism!!! Wooohooo. My country is better than your country because I live here! Your country sucks. Blah blah blah.

well for starters the idea that the seal is eating the halibut is wrong.. the seals man fish is a predator of the halibut and by killing the seals the halibut are more fucked. and second canada has made a market for the seal skins.. its fucked don't try to say its not. now in oregon the seals do eat salmon which when theres is no salmon every thing is fucked.
and really seal clubbers.. the meanest men i know of. and yes i eat meat.

Really?

You're complaining about seal clubbing? How fucking lame. Seal Clubbing REALLY isn't that bad. Hakapik's FUCK UP SEALS. They don't feel shit on account of not having half of their goddamn head after getting hit.

Shit you probably don't know

1.) The majority of seal hunters are Indian, they rely on the seals for money, and sometimes in extreme cases food

2.) 99.9 percent of seal hunters use guns, clubs are pretty difficult as seals are skittish

3.) Seals aren't really in short supply

4.) Seal eyeballs are delicious

Oh fuck, the seal thing. Everyone makes a big deal about it, simply because the images of seal pups dying is graphic. Nobody is complaining about bear hunting, deer hunting, or fishing. The seals die in seconds, while fish are left gasping until they die. Also, now that the seal hunt has been virtually shut down, the seal population is exploding, and is thought to be a contributing factor to the cod collapse in newfoundland. Seal hunting is no worse than any other commercial animal harvest, stop bitching about it.

Heres a great quote by someone I dont remember

"Patriotism, the belief that your country is better simply because you were born in it"

until the Chinese have a manned mission to Mars, the USA will be the greatest country ever!
but we do have a lot of fat peopleand government debt

but fuck it

dude...the world got along fine without bottled water at one time...and the Great Lakes border the US more than they do Canada.

The space program sure is one of the greatest feats of the last century. But it wasn't just a US thing.

In the 50's there was a plane developed in Canada called the Avro Arrow, incredibly ahead of its time. It was then scrapped by the then Conservative government on orders of the US (bunch of cock sucking fags in power in both countries during that time).

Obviously it was an incredible team that had put together that plane who were all of a sudden out of a job. What did they do? They got hired by NASA to put a man on the moon. Without them it would never have happened.

a quote from the Wiki article, if you don't like it being Wikipedia go look at the sources yourself.

Following the Canadian government's cancellation of the Avro Arrow project in 1959, CF-105 Chief Aerodynamicist Jim Chamberlin led a team of 25 engineers to NASA's Space Task Group to become lead engineers, program managers, and heads of engineering in NASA's manned space programs—Projects Mercury, Gemini and Apollo.

This team would eventually grow to 32 Avro engineers and technicians,

and become emblematic of what many Canadians viewed as a "brain drain" to the U.S.[92]

so the space program is US funded, and essentially belonging to the US. But lots of the most important brains of the operation were all Canadian. Out of a job because of a bunch of right wing bastards.

I like Canada, I kinda want to move there.
You guys, no matter how awesome you are, are still responsible for JUSTIN BIEBER. HOW COULD YOU

just playing around, stay classy Canada.

yea, he was an incredibly brilliant man. “one of the most brilliant men ever to work with NASA.”[1]

without him and the other Canadians that got employed, the space program would have been years behind.

I don't get what you mean by read the page, it says exactly what anyone would expect it to say

ATTN: Space Program
You were a waste of money and time!
You are like visiting Detroit,
You might see something cool, but you`ll never waste your time and go back.
Next time you`ll drive right past and go somewhere you could actually live.

like Dildo Newfoundland........ atleast they have an awesome name....

actually, Canadian education is considered better than american, in grade 10, we learn what you learn in grade 12, you just have better universities

I met an American girl who thought nova scotia was part of Russia. She was so dead serious on it so my friend and I had to draw her a map of north America. She didn't even know where half of the states were when the two canadians could fill it in with ease. Embarrassing.

the majority of americans that i've met have not known where half our provinces are.. where as a lot of canadians can tell you where most of the states are. 13 vs 50.
i really like the states though so i'm not trying to bash but the whole school remarks... at least we learn about other countries.

i know i couldnt name where any of the provinces were really, sorry. Never had any reason to know this information and I feel like thats a poor measure of education

you know why we don't learn about other countries?

cuz we don't have to.

and btw i'm going to name all the canadian provinces off the top of my head

new brunswick, pei, nova scotia, newfoundland, ontario, manitoba, quebec, bc, alberta, saskaethcwan, yukon territories, nunavit, northwestern territories

BOOM....was that right?

Almost, but it's mostly on your spelling.

*Saskatchewan

*Nunavut

*It's just Northwest Territories, and Yukon is just Yukon; No territories in front of it's name.

Again you bring you anecdotes to the table to try and prove a point. A geography class in the states isn't going to place a lot of emphasis on Canada because it is not culturally diverse.

Are you trying to imply that state curriculum's don't require geography courses? Because they do, but guess what, some kids don't give a shit. Just because you run into a few of them doesn't mean we don't learn about other countries.

Arguments like this are stupid imo. You can't compare a country with 35million people vs a country with 300 million. USA will always win in just about everything because for every 35 people canada has the united states has 300. I doubt that one country produces smarter people. America = fried chicken, sarah palin, and lawsuits. Canada = bacon, nature, and justin beiber.
my 2 cents, not hating on anyone :)
