Unthreadworthy Thread

Could somebody give me a couple options for a wide angle or fisheye lens that I should buy for my t3i? Mainly for filming skiing this winter. Also all I have right now is a kit and zoom lens. I don't know too much about lenses so just something that's commonly used so I can get some better shots out there this year.

There are many ways that lead to Gifs. One of the easiest and with the most options is using Photoshop.

And since I'm in a good mood, I made a tutorial:

1) Get Ps if you haven't torrented it already you internet scum.

2) Find a moment to gif, I didn't but since I have to show something I just randomly picked a moment from Christian Frei's Excellent documentary about James Nachtwey known as "War Photographer".

3) Trim video to gif length (or as close to) so you don't have to work with an unnecessarily large file, use your preferred video editing program for this, or Quick Time if you are on a Mac, which I presume you are.(Which is actually quite good for snipping out small gif size bits out of videos.)

4) Import video in Ps: File > Import > Video to layers. If you can't find it, here's a screenshot:

Screen%20Shot%202013-10-28%20at%2016.02.38.PNG

Then you will get this dialog box in which you can further trim the video to your every desire:

Screen%20Shot%202013-10-28%20at%2016.04.47.PNG

5) Now check all them layers brah!

Screen%20Shot%202013-10-28%20at%2016.46.59.PNG

This is the phase where you want to edit stuff and add meaningful phrases for Tumblr, if you want to get rid of some black bars the fast way is: Command + Option + A (To select all layers) and crop.

If you want to add that soggy meaningful text: just make a text layer, and alt paste that between every frame and then Command + Option + G to create clipping masks out of those layers, for items the same thing applies.

If you want make text flash, remove a frame every so often, if you want the typing effect, just add a new letter ever few frames.

You should end up with something like this:

Screen%20Shot%202013-10-28%20at%2016.52.12.PNG

6) Now cool people living on the edge show of their finger dexterity and press Command + Option + Shift + S, not so cool people click File > Save for Web.

Screen%20Shot%202013-10-28%20at%2016.52.27.PNG

We got a lovely dialog box with plenty of options:

Put file container to GIF

Colours at highest setting (256), dither at 100% and lossy at 0%.

Make sure the file size doesn't get to large.

Be sure to preview to make sure everything is right then save.

7) Upload to the interwebs using your preferred service, copy paste that url and put it between brackets and you are done:

i need a lens hood that will go on my tokins 11-16 but it needs to be able to fit around my lcw fader nd which is 82mm in the front not sure if a thing exist but thought id ask

What are some thoughts on the canon 15-85 lens...I found a 60d with this lens for 600 on craigslist which seems to be in good shape. I'm determining whether to buy it or not so my friends and I can start making more videos. I also would like to take decent photos with this lens also, not ALL video.

Thread has probably been made on this already.

Explain this:

This is a screengrab from an exported mp4 file from sony vegas. I used the GoPro hero 3 black at 1080/60fps.

This is a screengrab from the footage straight from the camera (same clip)

No blur.

Is it a matter of the frame rate of playback in vegas? that's the only thing i can think of but idk how to change it

Looks like you're exporting interlaced, make sure your settings are progressive when exporting.

For charity brah.

I mean you can buy an Olivetti Valentine of eBay for 400-600 bucks, it went for a hundred times that amount.

And the hideous Leica went for 1.8 million.

got home for thanksgiving and found my film camera to take back to school. goods/bads about a canon AE-1 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens?

I need a new stabilizer for shooting with a fisheye whilst skiing. going to be used for follow cams and stationary shots, so I'm not really looking for a glidecam. Any suggestions?

I think your best option would be a cam caddie, or a fig rig. I have an opteka x-grip which is like a cheaper cam caddie, but it's not anywhere near as steady as my Glidecam.

Go to junkyard, find a metal pipe. Bend said pipe in 2 90 degree angles. Drill a hole. Thread a bolt through said hole. Attach camera to bolt. ???? Profit

MPEG Streamclip. Free, works like a charm. I personally transcode, because while my Macbook can handle DSLR footage, it gets choppy with multiple layers and effects.

Okay so my computer is telling me that the start up disk if full I assume that this means i need more ram and just thought id ask here to make sure thats what i should do before i spend $140 in the wrong direction for the current time

Dude, no...

Startup disk is the hard drive you boot from, it has your os on it. Delete some pronz or get a bigger hard drive, or transfer some stuff to an external drive. Ram will not free up space on your hard drive (might load pronz faster though.)

Yeah man, don't buy more ram unless you need it, just dump some stuff off your internal hard drive.

thanks to both of you just got a 2tb internal hard drive this morning installing it later today should work great

Dude you should really do some research before you just send it on all of these upgrades...

Why did you buy an internal drive and not external? are you just add a second drive to your desktop or do you have a laptop? Have you ever replaced a hard drive before?

Your programs and OS are on your current hard drive.

Okay correction I didn't get a internal hard drive as a short fix I deleted stuff just out of my documents to try and clear some space for the moment but it didn't work so im not totally sure what to do since if i moved the shots from my computer to an external hard drive and then removed the shots from the computer it would have the same effect. So what exactly should I do?

No I have the whole adobe master collection in it, and to eheath i havent but im about to check back through it and make sure im not losing anything important.

I don't know if this is true or not but I have heard it is from watching the footage you just shot on the camera because it backs up the memory card or something and then that happens.

Sorry for the double post but I had a question. During a long day of filming is it better to have a battery pack or just carry an extra couple batteries in your pockets?

If you are talking about battery pack grips, just get a few extra batteries, the grip makes the camera heavier and you are not going to film in portrait or are you?

Anyone know where I can find a step down ring with 46mm male threads and 43mm female? need one for a fisheye lens and I can only seem to find the opposite

Watch out with the cheapest of cheap lens hoods/adapters, sometimes the threads are made to a standard so low that you can damage the filter thread on the lens.

im looking into getting into medium format, iv heard great things about mamiya cameras. whats the major differences between the 645 and rb67?

Disagree, filming with my t2i and a glidecam was perfect with a battery grip because you don't have to remove the camera from the glidecam to change batteries. Also I prefer heavier cameras while filming. To each his own though

anyone have experience with the panasonic 14mm? They go for pretty cheap used and the small size is appealing for a walk-around gh2 lens. i've been reading that the 20mm is optically superior but I like the wider angle

hey guys, i just kinda got back into editing after a long hiatus. If you don't mind having a watch and giving your feedback (here or via pm) it'd be greatly apprecaited

thanks!

ok, laptop question... I am getting a macbook to edit with and use for school. I will be mostly using it for editing with photoshop, premier, and a little bit of aftereffects. I have an old 27 inch iMac I would like to use as a monitor for editing as well. I believe this is possible but I have not researched it thoroughly so screen size should not really be an issue. Right now I am looking at this one: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD102LL/A/refurbished-macbook-pro-29ghz-dual-core-intel-i7

Specs:

8GB (2 x 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM

750GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm

Intel HD Graphics 4000

2.9GHz Dual-core Intel i7

for $1269

and this one: http://store.apple.com/us-hed/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=ME864LL/A&step=config

specs:

2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz

8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM

128GB Solid State Drive

also $1269

and this one:

http://store.apple.com/us-hed/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=ME864LL/A&step=config

Retina display2.4GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz

8 gb ram

128GB Solid State Drive

$1289

I will be putting my footage on external drives so hard drive space will not be an issue.

So, oh media and artsy people, which one of these will give me the best bang for my buck? Which one will allow me to edit the quickest and not have to wait for the computer? Should I put my priority on processing power or a solid state drive? Is retina worth it? Please weigh in with any input. Thanks!

[/list]

I use this exact computer. Works fucking phenomenally. I've edited several projects in Premiere, AE, plus extensive PS, Illustrator, and Lightroom work, never had an issue with it. I use a 22 inch external monitor with it that works perfectly. If you have specific questions, PM me.
