I hate Kai jones

He pisses me off because he's better than me and basically the same age. And he is sponsored by atomic. That angers me cuz I want atomic. And, last season I got recommended too late in the season. They ran out of money.

Also I feel like anybody can become a pro skier if they ski every day, and live in Jackson hole, and they have an endless well of daddy’s money. He’s being babied by all these brands too which pisses me off too.

I'm in college, work two jobs, can ski well enough to go pro and buy all my own shit for skiing and mtb. I get that some people are born into it but its still annoying.

If you don't put the work in, it doesn't matter what resources you have at your disposal.

nothing new here, but i honestly don't think there's that not much difference between big air/slopestyle and aerials at this point. it's basically all just perfectly executed tricks that look the same to the untrained eye (at their size they can't be anything other than perfect). there really isn't any room for style or anything like that, emphasized by the recent fis banning no poles. imo poles look better but i think it still goes to show how professional skiing is just becoming kind of monotonous, and not really connected to the culture or its roots. i didn't watch x games but from the clips i saw it looked kind of boring, at least the slopestyle and big air. i would honestly rather go watch something older that is more creative, more stylish. if i wanted to see the same superspin 50 times over i would just go scroll luke votaw's instagram page.

Fractured my scapula skiing frozen moguls with 3" powder after ejecting and sommersalting a number or times, one of which I slammed my upper back into a mogul. If you know where the scapula is, pretty wild to break in on Moguls. But the skiing before hand was rad, just got too confident; that was two seasons ago, and still riding moguls for sure. Agree 100% with the spring days, when those moguls have a nice warm glaze look, oh man. On that note, really few better places than to practice switching with butters than on those kind of moguls, looking like a drunk helicopter going down

I broke my scapula at breck

No you do that dumb trend where you click off your binding and flip the ski around with your toe

Ideally impaling your balls in the process

I really don't find all the wack RedBull stunts impressive anymore. They are all so corny

No hate towards matej on this one, but wtf using pads for "street" skiing?!?

I would say there are 2 valid reasons for using pads inside.

1. Redbull didn't want to do damge to the school.

2. Risk of getting hurt doing something stupid like that is not worth it for Matej as a comp skier.

yeah i agree the school video was corny but at least the stairs were shoveled

They were indoors so the steps were never shoveled

should have covered the stairs with snow then shoveled them

Skiers getting sponsored by designer/luxury brands is going to be considered whack as in the near future

NS thread in 2027: What size Prada pants to go w the Moncler puffy and Louis V goggles??

NS in 2050 (if we can still even ski) will definitely non-ironically be speaking like this due to the amount of wealth continuing to invade skiing...

It's a double-edged sword, on one side the athletes make giant designer checks and are hooked up with designer goods also worth substantial amounts of money, on the other side designer brands are more and more putting themselves in skiing which could in turn make more of the elite get into skiing and continue driving the rest out. Where I stand here I'm not sure.

Other brands might follow suit and jack the prices of stuff even higher than they are currently.

I consider it whack already. Designer shit is lame as hell. It's one thing to buy something expensive because of quality it's another to buy something expensive because of a logo or name. People trying to look rich or flaunt money bothers the shit out of me.

But I have zero sense of style or trends, so I'm just going to sit here and yell at clouds.

It isn’t new. J Lindeberg has been in freestyle skiing for a long time, Jon Olsson had some super expensive Cross and Colmar suits (cross one was sick af), and Walter Wood rode for RLX. I don’t think moncler will stick around.

Was Gus briefly sponsored by Prada or am I nuts

Dude there's no way you believe that the super wealthy weren't already into skiing since before any of us were born. Deer Valley, Yellowstone Club, Hermitage Club already exist lol (though I think Hermitage club went out of business and now there's a new one in NY or something)

The ratio is shifting more and more every year as costs grow and grow and housing near skiing becomes more and more unreachable to the general public. Of course wealth has been in skiing since the beginning but that doesn’t change the current state and trend we’re seeing. All I gotta say is just look at lodge food and pass prices compared historically even adjusted to inflation.

Exactly, so just go hit a legit street rail instead instead of a little Instagram stunt

it's a redbull commercial dude, they're putting money into making something different that sticks out to people. their concern isn't your personal core purity test

plus i'd argue it's a pretty cool idea, hasn't every skier in school dreamed about hitting forbidden fruit in the building?

Snowboarding tricks on rails will always look cooler than skiing tricks on rails. Yes on skis you can do more swap and spin combinations but snowboards have so much more variety in simple tricks. Plus for a reason I can’t pin down their switch tricks look more interesting than switch rail tricks on skis

switch tricks look the exact same as forward tricks on snowboards lol

Not at all. Switch stance on a snowboard is way more closed off. Like you’re twisted uphill more than normal. Idk hard to explain in words but it looks way different

Literally 90% of pros have the worst trick selection for rails

no style at all

I swear they all lack any creativity- why the hell would you post an insta video of a line that includes a simple front 4 or back 4- do something more special jeez or atleast tweak it a bit

also

Park city sucks ass, never wanna watch a ski edit from there

and any edits that dont have the sound of the skis hitting the rails automatically takes an L in my book

This makes me feel better abt moving out East after skiing PC during college and getting jelly when I see 3 kings clips

I don't like daffy butters or @Tophaloaf simply because the trick is ridiculously easy (learnt it in about 10 mins) and I find the hype surounding it as a godly trick kinda annoying.

Might just be me but I don't get how he has such a big following for spamming easy as shit tricks like daffy butters or jumping over box and people will call it insane or "revolutionary"

Its like his signature trick like talltdan has lip blind 2 or theres kfed
