Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

Just saw hornbecks response to Seamus and I totally agree. When I am out street skiing I am def trying to make things as easy and fun as possible, street skiing is a massive amount of effort as it is and I don’t need it to be harder. HOWEVER I do think it’s a lil different when it’s a big famous crew like forre. That clip that Seamus called them out on there are like 100 stairs, so I kind of get it in that case

Seamus really just likes community service. Nothing better than contributing to the community by shoveling some steps. Forre is just selfish.

It isn't whiners tho, I mean it is objectively annoying because Seamo and his crew will dig out 10-15cm of ice on most features no matter how long it takes. It's Forre, they are one of the heaviest hitting crews so I don't feel bad that people want to hold them to high standards tbh.

It's not as trivial as it sounds either because it's genuinely something you notice for the entire Forre movie, they did it a lot. I can't remember the last time a legendary crew didn't shovel the stairs for their video.

Like look at this:

the best natural skier i know was a ski racer, don’t knock it.

grew up racing ? and help coach a little kids race team now. Skiing gates def doesn’t make you the most well rounded skier. Half these kids can’t ski bumps or pow and complain when it’s mashed potatoes

Maybe unpopular opinion: Boot Gloves are worth it. My feet are so much warmer.

How do some people never get cold feet? My brother and I get hot, sweaty feet even on days below zero F. I always just wear athletic shorts under my ski pants and have the thinnest socks I can get. Feet still get hot unless I get snow in the boot while taking it on or off. How are some people's feet perpetually cold even with warm leggings and socks and it's not even that cold out?

I noticed the better my boots fit the colder my feet. Maybe it's the liners being thin and right up against the plastic. When I had larger boots my feet were much warmer. It's weird though because my feet don't get that cold otherwise; at work they sweat sitting at a desk.

I got raynauds and it sucks, just be grateful you don't have it it's so annoying having to go in to the lodge every few runs on cold days

Have you considered Hotronic boot heaters? They are pretty expensive and not that durable but they are an absolute life saver for me. It’s the only way I can ski after getting toe frostbite a couple years ago

I have, but what has been working for me is tucking thermal undies into extremely nice and expensive ski socks. Still cold but not frostbite cold as long as i take breaks. My feet aren't nearly as bad as my hands though, no glove is warm enough and I get so jealous when everyone's like "kinkos and snow seal are the move" and can't even wear gloves cuz they're not warm enough

i never had much of a problem with cold feet until i got race boots for my narrow feet which fit real nice but they are freezing cold somehow, im rocking heated socks and boot gloves and still frozen at -20. then in the spring on days i was only wearing a hoodie i figured id be fine without the glove and with regular socks but my toes went numb even tho i was sweating everywhere else

Exact same for me and my foot. They're so cold, but fit the best.

Are the race boots worth it? I’ve got extremely skinny feet and I’m trying to decide if I should get them

I wouldn't recommend them unless they're the only boot that fits, which is the situation I found myself in. They don't come with rubber soles so have to wear cat tracks and put in your pockets to not destroy soles walking around, unless you have someone grind and add rubber soles. Your feet will probably be colder. But they do ski well. Make sure to get the right forward lean boot for yourself and not too stiff: I have a 110 race boot and it feels plenty stiff.

It's been worth the trouble for me, but they can be miserable too if you get the wrong one.

yea it really just depends if its all that fits i guess. the plastic soles really isnt a big deal i dont bother with trying to protect them.

mine are not perfect rn so am going to try and find something else or get more work done.

really like the look of the boa boots for pain with buckles i have on the top of my feet. just probably too wide

Not a single person needs pivot 18s

I had jester pros for a while which went up to 18 din. But I kept them on like 8.5. I just liked them because they had more metal parts than the regular jesters and I figured that they'd be less likely to blow up because of that

there are big mtn situations where there is basically no advantage to a ski coming off no matter what. and there are racers who are in the range, i mean what do you think they do, use 14 or lower dins and then jump straight to those crazy 20+ DIN race pro bindings? or do you think the top ski racers are also all just puffing their chest when they run crazy high DINs?

obviously like everything in skiing people overdo it and many are delusional about things but claiming literally no one on earth needs a din of more than 15 is pretty naive haha

Because they dont make black p15s this is the only option for this ski. There isnt any other binding that would work on the ski. P18s were necessary.

All metal used to be a valid excuse but now the 15 is all metal.

Racers are the last discipline to need cranked dins lol I think it's a dick size contest for their din. Most racers I've spoken to who's opinions I respect agree with me. Find me one person who weighs 300+ lbs and is tall and rips hard enough to warrant bigger than 14 din. I'll change my opinion but good luck.

Good deals and color ways are the only valid excuses. But why are your beadworks so short? Or is it an optical illusion?

real

I don’t think this website gives enough credit to how fucked and gnarly racing is at the top level

A ski coming off unexpectedly could literally kill you
