Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

i’ll never pay for a ticket to watch a premier when i can just watch it on the internet a short time after. like miss me with these level 1 tour things idgaf. although i’d pay to go to a bandits premier even though they’re free.

Most premiers are way too expensive. Though I'm still going to the Faction premier just to have something to do.

street videos that i barely care to watch. you know there’s random bums making more impactful street content than a lot of the industry professionals and they don’t ask for your money.

Zootspace, and they didn’t ask for anyone’s money! again i don’t need to pay $15 to stand in a smelly pit to support street movies i probably won’t even watch once they’re out on the internet.

my point is my ass isn’t paying for any premier cause idgaf. with the absurd amount of wealth present in the ski industry (especially within some of the crews were talking about) i could care less sorry.

Sometimes I think the magnitude of your counter-culture mentality is just straight up unhealthy but congrats on being the biggest hater I've ever seen in my life, glad you can enjoy appreciating literally nothing in the industry lol

I've bitched about being broke too so I'm not bashing you for that, I'm talking beyond this thread. Like I've seen you complain that "tik tok found deftones" and then say you don't fuck with them because of it. Something you literally have enjoyed previously now is tarnished because more people enjoy it currently, stuff like that. This was just another example of that mentality which i can promise you will drive you to be miserable, I used to be the same way lol

In Calgary we have Freshtival which fills a full theatre and used to have hella pros (just Sammy c last year cause he lives close lol) and there was never a noticeable stank. Average skiers hygiene is pretty average I think

Video game tournaments on the other hand…

I somewhat agree. I'd happily pay to see paakku, frantic guys, digit, etc. With some of the bigger names with more industry support, I'd just watch it when it drops online.

Poles in the park for skiers look just as wack as a snowboarder using poles. Theres no use for em unless ur riding street i guess.

that being said, those who ride with poles I have somewhat a level of respect because those fuckers are annoying. Amazes me how people can lace grabs with them too.

Last day at abay I forgot my poles, didn’t realize how different it can feel skiing. Was pretty fun actually because I’m used to long bamboo poles and grabs as well as park in general felt much easier.

poles broke my right hand in the park last may in oregon and I will absolutely still use them lmao. I feel naked without them

The new 12/14 noses are disgusting. Before like 2016 or something like that they weren’t that much uglier than the metal nose but nah the new plastic clear smushed nose ain’t it.
 
Skis are not good or bad at rails, skiers are.

I chuckle every time I read a ski review (looking at you roof boxers). Shotgun a beer when you get to the point of any park-ish review where the writer says the ski is good at rails, because it's going to be said every time. Saying a ski is good at rails is too vague. Some skis may be better at surface swaps for example, but any ski can slide metal.

skis like wets or blends for example makes 4 swaps or a sw lip 2 on a big rail easier, some people does tricks on the rails blud

They really are. Everyone is so good at skiing now that I don’t have any skin in the game. No favorites. I want ski media that shows the people and personalities that make skiing dope. August light did well at this.
 
Even though people are getting better at skiing every year and increasingly going into the streets, style has gone to the wayside. People like edjoy, Dan bacher, and orscar weary who only do skiing maneuvers if they can make them look super fluid and personalized. Singular styles like hornbeck, jeff keisel, and khai kreppa are so rare now. People need to use their brains to think of ways to stand out in a new way. There’s always something. Look at Lucas magoon. He can do tricks that many other people can do, but there is absolutely no mistaking it’s him. He’s put the effort into making each trick truly his own. Idk, I’m tired of seeing amazing skiers do generic looking backslides to back 4s or whatever. Ian Compton was mastering one footed rail shit literally a decade ago
 
the big pants thing is getting old. most people have no idea how to pull it off. im downsizing and i foresee a lot of folks doing this soon
