Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

That’s not even the most ridiculous one, people have literally mtb’ed every impoverished South American city in the world. Even better than that, me and my buddies went down a rabbit hole one night about freestyle pogo sticking and found out one of the spots we hit was already hit on a fucking pogo stick. That one traumatized me, imagine hitting something and someone being like “oh I remember that spot from the X-pogo video!”, I’d literally kms

Dude post the pogo clip

I want an event where there’s a big gap to DFD and it moves 20 ft downhill each time everyone clears it until it’s last man standing

Big Air should have a DFD in the landing that has to be hit at least once by each competitor.

Slopestyle courses shouldn’t have jumps. There’s already a big air, and the jumps take away from the rail game.

I’m fine with the half pipe style ones but normal jumps shouldn’t be there.

Make the x games slope courses look like your average shitty east coast park sans poorly built lips. Would be hilarious to see what people will rip on a 20 foot park jump as the money booter. DFD's, down rails, maybe a c rail and a fat tube. Constraint breeds creativity.

this would honestly probably be more fun to watch.

Here’s the rail in 05, skier unknown.

As for the pogo edit I cannot for the life of me find it, but it’s a really mellow DFD in denver, one of the high schools just south of downtown.

try hitting cliffs you pussies!!

more seriously, skiers can handle brutal repeating kinks better than snowboarders so that's a plus. but yeah as far as jibbing goes, snowboarders have a slightly wider scope i agree

A disaster comp where everyone is pulling out NBDs on a huge gap would be sick.

The Recruitment by Superproof is probably the most underrated ski movie of all time. It’s corny thematically but the filming, skiing, and spot selection is all time

I agree the filming and skiing are good but I cannot get past the corny shit dude, any ski video that has hardo vibes like that gets an immediate no from me

Valid. If I remember correctly I think those dudes were menaces back in the day though. Like genuine hardos iirc so it’s pretty on brand IMO. All the guns in the movie were real and so are Leigh’s face tats lol, pretty sure one of them was also a huge asshole and used to get in fights constantly, can’t confirm tho

Also reels are genuinely enjoyable to make. Maybe not to watch but sometimes you don’t feel like pulling out the camera and filming for a feature length movie or edit, but like if it’s a fun day and you happen to land some stuff you don’t normally do it’s nice to be able to edit something super quick and toss it up to the gram I can’t lie

this is stupid as hell because there's barely any features that exclusively skiers can hit. Snowboarders have the upper hand on being able to jib essentially anything.

Idk, I get what he is saying in terms of trying to be more creative. I ski in an area where the urban game is dominated by snowboard crews. My friends and I have found that a way to differentiate and find new spots is to start sliding wood rails. Maybe I dont watch enough snowboarding, but it feels like maybe skiing is further ahead in terms of the edgeless game which opens up more possibilities where as snowboarders are stuck doing 50-50. The consequences of digging your edge in on a board slide seems higher too. Maybe I’m off base here, but at least local to me, it feels like we found an advantage.

Any dumbass can buy guns and face tats that doesn’t make you hard

this is a quality hot take, and I wholeheartedly agree.

people make their entire ski career reels which is where the problem is

Watched it again a few weeks ago for the first time in years and wow did it age poorly. Yeah the skiing is really good but it's all sandwiched in between ridiculous storyline segments. I respect the work they put in but couldn't help laughing at some of the scenes (diner robbery)

Diner robery was the funniest shit ever, same with the kidnapping scene, the sequel is also all the same shit but I think a more intense soundtrack during the ski segs from what I remember

Literally 90% of pros have the worst trick selection for rails

no style at all

I swear they all lack any creativity- why the hell would you post an insta video of a line that includes a simple front 4 or back 4- do something more special jeez or atleast tweak it a bit

also

Park city sucks ass, never wanna watch a ski edit from there

and any edits that dont have the sound of the skis hitting the rails automatically takes an L in my book

Still true to this day with pros in comps. Lookin like the same all around.

Rail sections in slope comps are always horribly boring to watch, they never want to take risks on the rails

i think the size of rail features in slope comps should be wayyyy bigger. since athletes don't try hard things on rails, we should obviously increase the size and coolness of the features so its at least interesting. Imagine an a frame or an s rail the size of a slopestyle jump, even just seeing someone slide that would be cool.

ON3P is overrated

Maybe overrated but I think there's a separate problem if you think their skis are too heavy and unresponsive while being an athlete with strong legs because they're definitely not unresponsive by any means
