Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

The latest Henrik street edit is super disappointing, had a handful of bangers but considering the standard I expect from one of the street GOAT's I thought it was pretty weak. The closer is him sliding a double kink then doing a 180...

This website sometimes man. The edit was like 90% shots that would be closer shots for most other skiers making a year long street film. Dude releases a little six minute edit of some shots that won’t make the final cut yet are still more stylish than the large majority of people street skiing and y’all still complain.

Touch snow, log off

Glad someone else said it first. These dollo edits are getting really weird. The du-rag and the shot of a black person (every time) and then panning to him skiing. You’re an extremely wealthy heir to a champagne company, you ain’t him. Big time tokenism and a general lack of cultural awareness

Oh yeah, there was a black person in every shot?

When all you see are black people despite an equal number of shots of white NPCs, you got a fucking hang up on race.

And yeah, Henrik has been rocking durags for decades now because he grew up loving rap music, you over-sensitive, fucking retards.

eat the guts and the cromat version of zootspace we’re both better than zootspace. It’s just a wanna be snowboard video. Kiss my ass idgaf

ps marry me Andy Partridge or Ian King

yeah personally I like those two more but I disagree that ZS is a wannabe snowboard video. And even if it is, you gotta admit that it stands out a lot compared to other ski videos that came out around the same time. Or to any ski videos since for that matter

yea I didn’t care for it. I put up with it for a few minutes and gave up. That shot of him wearing a duck hat was where I threw in the towel

just rewatched something in the water by mango and again was disappointed. idk his last 2 edits felt like they focused on the cinematogrophy more than the actual skiing. like bro is probably way happier not filming street shit but hes not the animal he once was imo.

Brady Perron's recent edits have all been like this. Doing way too much with cinematography and editing in that way makes for a mid and kinda pretentious ski edit

agreed, pretty sure the somewhat recent vid between him and mango was really boring and was mostly him flexing his camera skills.

I agree Henrik edits' music has gone downhill a lot. I thought the skiing was still enjoyable to watch and inspiring, though

i just want harlaut to make one ski movie with some wu tang

no he didn’t

You’re right it was probably Deschenaux but Henrik made it cliche with B&E show and all the other edits from 2008-2012 with shitty Method Man and Redman songs

I hate it when we’ll known pros come to my hill. We had Alex hall come a few weeks ago and the place was fuckin packed for the next week. The worst bullshit. Having the chill lesser known pros is cool though.

All of the pipe pros were at my hill for WC the other day and literally none of them got bothered except for Eileen Gu. Birk Irving and Hunter Hess were in the lodge and no one talked to them other than me and then Gu was there with a bodyguard lmao

That’s how it was when sleepy grill came to hyland, barley anyone knew who he was and it was really trying to copy his tricks.

If you unironically call people a jerry you’re the biggest loser on the hill

Guess I’m a massive jerry for referring to someone with their boots on the wrong feet to the homies as a jerry.

no what, I am a giant jerry so you’re not wrong I guess

if you say gaper unironically I think that’s worse (unless describing a literal massive gape)

I mean he already did in a way milk wutang (especially red and method) back in the day to the bone. Used so many wutang affiliated songs.

well thats pretty much the definition of a jerry haha

Shut the fuck up gaper

Yeah like use the words for their literal definitions was kind of my argument. Calling just any newbies these names is petty.

Slopestyle courses shouldn’t have jumps. There’s already a big air, and the jumps take away from the rail game.

I’m fine with the half pipe style ones but normal jumps shouldn’t be there.

This is an interesting case, and I agree. But maybe they should have spines or a qp at the bottom for more creativity

Maybe one big kicker at the bottom, but I would like it if they rewarded more creative tricks instead of harder tricks. I wanna see some cork 3s.

But by definition jumps are part of slopestyle. Maybe they just have only 1 traditional jump and make 1-3 other unique jumps that could be QP take offs, curves, whale tails, etc. would be cool to see more rail hits but removing jumps almost entirely would make it a different event. I would be down to see a slopestyle event that is a 10 rail line however.

qp at the bottom would be sick. Make quarter pipes great again.

I think a half pipe jib contest would be great. Rails and boxes a couple feet over the lip of pipe and it’s a mix of pipe tricks and jibs. Might be kinda thought with pipe ski edges but maybe stalls or super slick tubes?

i’d love to see some fuckin massive steep hips

street skiers should stop trying to hit the exact same spots as snowboarders and skateboarders and instead think outside the box and hit creative features that wouldn't be possible on skates, or snowboards.

this is stupid as hell because there's barely any features that exclusively skiers can hit. Snowboarders have the upper hand on being able to jib essentially anything.

not talking about features skiers can exclusively hit, im just sick of skiers trying to copy snowboarders with all their street footage

not really sure how it's copying, its kind of just who hits it first. some rails r prime and some aren't, why hit the spot you don't want to just for the sake of not copying a snowboard clip? obviously it would be ideal if it made sense to not re-hit spots but it doesn't

And what would one of these features be?

sounds cool philosophically but realistically I don’t think there is many ways to do this.

It’s also stupid because there aren’t infinite spots… skateboarding, rollerblading, BMX, street skiing, and snowboarding have all been around for 30 years (some even 50 years really). It’s VERY rare to find a completely untouched spot.

me and the homies hit a rail the other day that we thought was original, turns out some skiers in 05’ hit it and had pics to prove it.

True facts. Candide even skied the ocean and jungle too.

That’s not even the most ridiculous one, people have literally mtb’ed every impoverished South American city in the world. Even better than that, me and my buddies went down a rabbit hole one night about freestyle pogo sticking and found out one of the spots we hit was already hit on a fucking pogo stick. That one traumatized me, imagine hitting something and someone being like “oh I remember that spot from the X-pogo video!”, I’d literally kms

Fuck dude. I felt the same when when I learned about mountain unicycles
