Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

I saw a scene in a modern grunge ski movie recently (I forget which one) where the guy skis down an escalator to the subway. That ain’t new kids. That was in “mind the gap” in 2005. That movie made me an Andreas Håtveit fan.
 
I think jakson karseter has insanely nice style. Like he is one of the most stylish rail skiers I've ever seen I don't understand how kids are like "He's just spinning a lot there's no style involved" like I find it insane that people can watch him ski and act like he's not steezy as fuck tbh

I agree but this is like giving people shit for riding 120 waist skis in pow, or ripping ice on slalom skis. Certain skis make certain things easier and more fun and there is nothing wrong with that
 
Honestly i think the way ski area management and resorts are operated, work culture, management styles, lack of leadership, and many other reasons is why the ski industry might kill itself before climate change does.

It blows my mind some of these people I've worked for over the years have college degrees in pretty respectable fields but whatever. Common sense is priceless.

You reach a new stage of adulthood once you realize, degree earned =/= level of intelligence.

Some of my friends are lawyers and are absolute idiots. Some of the dudes in my Dads machine shop didn't graduate HS and can program a machine in like 5 minutes.
 
Salute was somewhat cringe. Pretty amazing skiing. But I couldn’t get past the generic music, unnecessary sound effects, nonsensical captions, gratuitous shots of random black dudes (especially the nba ones?) and sporadic cuts. Love henny but stept has firmly moved past the ski world and into the corporate commercial world it seems. It’s a shame that such great skiing was documented in such a generic yet awkward way

That’s called Henrick sharing other cultures, athletes, etc. that inspire him/his skiing. I got hyped off the NBA shots/comparisons. Dudes the Mamba of skiing.

I do remember the music maybe not repping Henny’s vibe like it could have, but I bet it might have to do with the expenses of buying the rights to music.

Salute dropped in 2020 and the clips are as old as 2018, maybe even some 2017 clips. It was edited by stept, and it was about his biggest influences in his career, while also chucking some of the gnarliest tricks of his career. If you didn't vibe with the music then whatever. But if you haven't seen it already that's because you are incredibly out of the loop, that's why I said your opinion doesn't count lol.

If the NBA player references confused you, I think you missed the point. CT crew summed it up nicely. Henrik at x games lacing an NBD and Dame Lilliard draining a logo 3 buzzer beater carry the same weight, and his energy and reactions are drawn directly from the hype / swagger of basketball players absolutely murdering defenders. That's why he was always the most electric guy to watch in the comp scene for like 10 years straight. boom boom boom ya know?

I feel this. I've even worked with people who have masters degrees in their fields who were all like "Eh, not for me. I like doing manual labor" and thats totally fine, at least they still show up and work hard everyday.

But yeah, you're spot-on. I mean they're really nice people. They're super stoked and passionate about what they do and that's also awesome, but sometimes taking a step back to think about something or just taking advice or helpful criticism and not taking it personal helps too. So many egos and personalities get in the way of people doing their job in this industry and that's what's probably frustrating me the most. People just straight-up hate Patrollers for no reason. I don't want to take your pass, just don't be a dick or get yourself smoked.

unnatrual colored snow pants are wack. Like pink, purple, light blue, especially ones w designs and dots and shit- so ugly. skiiers should only be wearing black, brown, grey, khaki and army green pants.

But I think you’re totally justified to laugh in the middle of a debate or after you slam home a valid point. I laugh for real when people get mad at me too. lol
