Most historically relevant and culturally progressive my ass. Way to just throw thousands of years of indigenous people's history and culture down the fucking toilet. In 1770, the California region's native population was an estimated 300,000. In New England? The Iroquois only had like 10,000 people, so my generous estimation is somewhere between 50-100,000. Much less significant. In 2005, California had the largest native population in the US. What about hundreds of years of Spanish and Portuguese exploration and settlement in the south and west? Almost the entire west and southwest is all named in Spanish or a similar dialect. I'd say that's pretty damn relevant.

My man has some solid points here. Here in cali and oregon we have one of the most ethnically diverse cultures. Where I live in South Tahoe being white is a minority. And I can only find one reason why. When you ask any immigrant who has come to the U.S why they chose the west coast they never fail to mention that this is where they knew that their dreams would come true.

Last november I met a couple from india in death valley. They were doing supper good financially(they pulled up in a raptor) apparently they went to collage in india and were able to transfer to the U.S somehow. Anyway, the dude worked for google and she worked as a photographer and biologist. what I'm trying to say is that the west offers more opportunities to those who work at it.

More than what? Are you basing this statement on the fact that you met an Indian couple that drove an expensive truck?

yeah so? Their story of making it to the U.S was just one of many ive heard. Fun Fact they all spent time in the east, and guess what? They said the east has the big gay.

Fuck outta here with your 2 inches of snow ass

They’re pretty fun for sure, I went to big air at Fenway park in Boston like 4 years ago and it was crazy to see that go down.

The problem is the fuckers who would rather just lay around and watch the tele with a beer, but insist on having some ski vacation like they saw in a commercial, and they aren’t even in good enough shape to go on a 2k walk much less click into some bindings

These people descend the green once and go to a bar. Considering the fact they couldn’t jog for 60 seconds without a break I think descending a mountain is something of an accomplishment. It’s probably the only athletic thing they will do all year.

I totally get the appeal of skiing to shitty skiers. And I like those people they don’t snake my pow lines etc etc.

First off, gapers basically subsidize our hobby. Ski resorts would not even be possible if only really-cool-hardcore-ski-experts like you and me skied

second, if you’re so mad at that guy for being out of shape and living a sedentary lifestyle you should be happy he’s going way the hell out of his way to go to a mountain and ski it

so yeah fuck you and your oh wait this is the unpopular opinion thread uh proceed sir my mistake

Extra fat pow skis are a marketing gimmick for people who can’t send or use their quads effectively. Like I get it if you’re always using them for steep and deep, but unless there’s 10+ inches of pow every time you’re going out you probably don’t need them.

RIP karma from here on out.

Dude fr tho I don’t get the hype like I got the kartel 108s and they’re definitely the widest skis I’ll ever need unless I’m heli skiing like if you get wider it just makes it harder to spin

Yeah I mean the days I ski it almost feels like employees outnumber guests. Kirkwood is severely understaffed but it’s felt like that there last couple weeks it’s been so empty.

And the crowds are easy to avoid I ski a fuckton and wait in maybe 10 lines a year total. My 5 minute wait at the base of park city in the morning before I go to the good chairs isn’t gonna kill me.

What we need is more part timers to buy ikon and epics to only use a few days a year. Let them enjoy the grandeur and plans to ski for free anywhere that winter etc etc.

Haha yes exactly.

i know that this industry survives off the back of kooks with too much cash, but I don’t have to like it!

Come out west and youll find out that all the best skiers out west come from back east lol unless youre some prodigy who grew up on freeride team....but fuck even their parents are probably from the east haha.

I agree though. Ski culture, though not nearly on par as what we see in other countries, is pretty special and unique in places like the Midwest and the east so its cool to be exposed to both communities as you said yourself. (small ma and pa resorts vs. big leagues)

Midwest is best.

Honestly though, the drive that a lot of skiers that I've met in areas that don't get a lot of snow ( East and Midwest) is crazy. They'll do anything to get on skis given what they've got. It's a sick group to ski around and be in.

That being said there are some areas of the Midwest that get comparable amounts of snow to the Midwest ( thanks lake effect).

Also: Rail gardens

I know this is all old news for deebie but young guns don't knock the midwest

Kooks only. At least a good portion of skiers realize this. In surfing it feels like you're not allowed to be involved unless you've been surfing that specific location for 10 years.

Definitely great vibes I was driving from Ames Iowa where I sold a fuck ton of tickets back to Aspen (to get dumped by this girl I was going back to thinking we’d spend the rest of our lives together this was my peak financially too I was balling for the only time in my life) and in western Iowa drove by some valley with chair lifts. Pulled over immediately since they were spinning and ripped like 10 glorious park laps in an hour. Bought a 1 hour ticket too.

This website as a whole has to stop and smell the roses more all the bells and whistles that go with skiing are great. And if your on here your good so your automatically a Ron Jeremy of the sport.

I love the dichotomy of “i live in the most progressive part of the country” and “its 2019 and I still use gay as an insult.”

Park skiers who go mach 30 straight line down beginner and intermediate runs are douchebags and probably not even good at skiing. Let's see you do that down the black or hike to terrain, or even ski that stuff at all. Gonna kill someone out there man. Snowboarders too (more often).

When the skiing is shit//total ice and the park ends sometimes I just bomb to get on the lift faster.

New wave skiing in anything similar looking to track suites needs to die and stay dead. (killing it with fire and a massive 5 kink DFD disater curb stomp while in a xxxl tall t in spring conditions would make a good extermination method for those up to it)

Gogglestraps or hats under the helmet is wack

Easy there dad. Jk but not really.

Wait I guess that’s been a signature style in park skiing for like 15+ years so maybe it’s a dad thing to rock hemets that way now? I remember first seeing Sammy C back in probably ‘05 in a skate helmet with gogs and toque under. Shit was rad.

tophaloaf has an unwatchable style. don't get me wrong he is a very good skier but those daffy butters and whole '180 swerve around on your tails and then stare directly at the camera as if you just did the best trick of your life' thing just doesn't do it for me. and i swear he does that in every single shot

The benefit to this is that they never get yoinked off your head if you wipe out. It also looks better imo, one detail to help differentiate yourself.

Yes, are u upset about it? If so please read the thread name, then proceed to try and argue with me. I am so sure your "opinion" is much much more valid than mine be it unpopular or not. Good luck buddy have a good day and don't forget to pray to Tod Walnuts daily.

man I respect your opinion, but it’s so overplayed with the whole “new wave bad” “tracksuit bad” stuff. If you want to hate on “new wavers” then go find one of the literal hundreds of threads dedicated to just that.
