Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

I don't like daffy butters or @Tophaloaf simply because the trick is ridiculously easy (learnt it in about 10 mins) and I find the hype surounding it as a godly trick kinda annoying.

Might just be me but I don't get how he has such a big following for spamming easy as shit tricks like daffy butters or jumping over box and people will call it insane or "revolutionary"

Regional unpopular opinion. Bridger bowl is a really unenjoyable mountain for powder skiing. Doesn't matter how deep it is. Chalky cruiser days with good vis are way more fun on the ridge.

omg there worse than when topsheets were doing the whole zombie goblin, green and red gore stuff.

Fuck, that shaky push into the rail after every shot is the worst thing in skiing/snowboarding. Making edits unwatchable.

I don't understand the urge. Especially when it's every fucking shot.

Also once again, a wonky orange spraypaint outline on your jump makes it look like shit, stop doing it. Northeast trend that still sucks.

Orange paint in the thin stripe generally not even straight. Most people that dye at least use blue dye.

Also really not that necessary. If the vis is bad enough that you need it jumps probably shouldnt be open. And color rots the snow.

I like marking lips but jump flags are the way to go. Jump flags are sick, dye not sk much, orange spray fuck that.

Loon uses orange because its the color of their logo. Paint color doesn't really matter...

Jurassic 5, atmosphere and maybe one or two more

When I saw your comment I knew beyond any shadow of doubt that you were going to say atmosphere and maybe some lyrical miracle empirical shit, lol.

Just found the website selling them. They sound amazing. Now we just need the OG ninthward edits back. Pretty sure they disappeared from the internet. Guns, drugs, naked women all the things skiing should be.

We’re required to mark jumps, and orange paint is the cheapest/easiest to lug around way to do it. If you do a few light passes it comes out way less crooked then one quick pass too.

We’ve started using brushes recently though which are nice because they can get hit my the tiller and for the most part survive. Plus there’s nothing like traversing the whole mtn only to get to a jump and find your paint can is frozen solid.

rip to Killingtons park crew tho like fuck painting every single one of their 100+ takeoffs must take ages and a shitload of paint

That sucks. Why would they leave the can out?

Jump flags are worth it at least on your bigger jumps. Look way cleaner than brushes but you have to pull them off at night unless back of the flat top and even then risky for maintenance.

They don’t even get left out, sometimes it’s just cold enough that the nozzles clog as you use them.

flags would be dope but we don’t have the manpower to pull them and reset everyday, we’re lucky if we have 4 people on in a morning (once a week we only have 2) with only 1 drill and no sled, all split between 70ish features and 3 parks. Kind of a miracle we keep stuff at least somewhat presentable and open everything in the hour and a half we have before public is on hill.

Not having to spray lips anymore is great. Really notice the difference when its warm out and don't have nasty corners.

Park city is overrated, and all those edits are the same

Pre-"I Ride Park City" and the green rails were the glory years including the jonesys park line.....Getting rid of the park on Kings Crown was the final nail in the coffin however.

Its also just ran terribly from an operations standpoint.

i think it was the work of an old terrain park manager that used to work for PCMR (before the vail takeover) and they wanted to have their parks also rival the likes of breckenridge, keystone, mammoth, etc, There used to be all those "I Ride Park City" edits, and I think they painted all the rails green cuz at the time, Park City was switching over most of their lifts to run on wind power or something

I fucking hate the wets. Ive skiied a few laps on them and the only redeeming feature they have is that theyre super light and easy to do swaps. theyre unstable as shit, shits simply wayyyy too soft. Ive heard the wides ski pretty decent though, havent been able to try them out tho.

Sounds like you need to try some Head Supershapes instead

skis are too flat these days, give me some damn camber.

I wouldn't say they are necessarily to fat. People are just buying fat skis for no reason so they seem to be everywhere. People ski park with 108s now. What ever happened to the 84-90 range of skis.

He said flat, as in how popular rocker is nowadays

For the type of skiing that this community does it does not surprise me how popular rocker is. It is a fun flex pattern for doing everything, even jumping if you are skilled enough.

eh maybe the average skier doesn't have the same level of basic technique they did a decade ago, but you can do all the bouncy buttery easy tricks with a ski with more camber too, as well as stiffer skis. it's way more fun on big jumps and variable snow with a ski you can trust to power through. im not saying get rid of rocker at all, but a good portion of these new skis you can barley stick a butter knife between the cambered section. though on skis under 95 the rocker should definitely be minimal, else you might as well just bust out some blades.

I fucking detest watching people do pow slashes in edits. Especially when they do multiple in a row instead of linking real turns. You’re not skiing if you’re doing a full hockey stop every turn to make the snow look deeper and it sure as hell doesn’t count as a faceshot. I don’t even think it looks good when pros do it so don’t get me started on when people who can’t ski pow correctly try to do it. I’ve always felt this way but just got irrationally triggered by the pow “turns” in that upvoted Bridger Bowl edit on homepage right now (rest of it was sick, don’t get me wrong). Wow why am I so mad about this
