Im a senior doing the looking for a college thing and i saw DU. Im wondering if anyone goes there or went there that could answer a few questions I have? ex: how are the dorms? classes? teachers? campus enviroment? how close to the resorts? parties? girls? the usual things for college. Any help will be appreciated. thanks

I go to DU. I like it a lot. Not many complaints other than it's fucking expensive for everything, but what school isn't? The dorms are fine for the first year. Stay in Johnson-McFarlen (aka JMac) if you want to meet more people and live in a more "community environmetn" otherwise you can stay in the Halls dorms where the rooms are more secluded from each other but still cool. Any school has good and bad classes, it just depends on what you want to study. I don't kow how to answer that question for you. SAme thing for the teachers but generally I have liked them alot, especially in the Enviro. Science Dept. Campus environment is really laid back. A-basin is the closest resort on the 5 mountain pass which is about an hour 15 minutes on a good day. Girls are girls and parties are to be had. There's plenty of both. What else do you want me to say there? Hope this helped.

^yup. but like i said, A-basin is the closest in terms of driving time. esp. if loveland pass is open and there's traffic on 70

About hour and a half to Loveland, A-Basin, Eldors, Keystone, Breckenridge. A little longer for Copper, Vail and Beaver Creek. This is travel time on weekdays, weekends can add up to an hour with bullshit traffic on I-70. Night life is a lot of fun in denver. you can take the light rail downtown which is filled with shit to do

yeah bud, I am looking at that as one of my top choices right now. It really looks awesome. I can't say much considering I am a senior in HS, however it has some great reviews from a lot of people. I am looking at going into Marketing/advertising.

if you can handle getting through all the pre-requisite classes for it before switching your major, they have a great program for that here.

I'd recommend DU, I like it a lot so far. And don't stress about freshman dorms, I live in Halls and it's legit. I'm actually not a huge fan of JMAC, except that it's close to basically all the classes.

thanks a lot i will be visiting the campus the 26th of october i believe so i guess i can really come to a conclusion then. my goal is to get a degree in engineering, pretty general but i will narrow it down, then get an MBA so i guess i have some goals. Throw skiing in there and by the sounds of it this school should be pretty good. if there is anymore information it helps a lot considering the number of school out there... anything helps

for the people who go there- what kind of grades, SAT scores, ACT scores, etc. did you have in High School?

Swollen Members playd hereat school onight an d that shit was baller. Prevail was crows urfing over me and pulled my beani over my eyes. haha. what a dick.

I was considering going to business school there, but now I want to become a pastry chef so now I want to go to the AI of Colorado.

It's either go to business school and be miserable and ski or go to culinary/restaurant management school and be happy AND ski. Down the road I will have my own restaurant and I will be able to ski all I want.

What exactly are you doing in the future?

I can guarantee my future is far brighter than yours. And it's not skiing if you are doing it 2 days a week, that just makes you a weekend warrior, such as I assume you plan on doing.

We all know start up restaurants are one of the worst investments ever, but I am sure your superior business skills will navigate you through that shit storm.

If business school and culinary school are a toss up to you, then you don't have the dedication for the first one. Business schools means around a 10 year commitment (I assume you mean business school in the MBA sense; undergrad is 4 years, 3+ years of work experience, then 2 years of business school). You might even overpay to have me as your GMAT tutor, who knows.

In the next month I will be living within walking distance to beach where I don't have to wear a wetsuit. Yea I might not get more than 5 days a year skiing for who knows how long. But I know that I could still not ski for 2 years, click into skis one day and make you look like a lost child anywhere on the mountain even when you are on the top of your game.

What I don't get is why you are basing your life around something that you have barely done. How many days have you even skied in your life, like 30? I have skied that many days in a row each of the last three years. Maybe think about things in their entirety before you make such a commitment.

You're an idiot if you think business is a 10 year commitment, fucking 6 years for an undergrad and an MBA Iif you actually go to school to learn instead of party. And restaurants aren't a bad investment, they're high-risk. If you can't differentiate between that you're clearly not smart enough to go to a decent business school. As far as saying somebody who can't decide between business and culinary school isn't dedicated, fuck you. I take 24 credits a semester, 18 business and 6 culinary, and I work more than full time, so don't even talk about dedication, prick. Also, accusing somebody of being a "weekend warrior", when you admit you only get 5 days in a season, is pushing it a lot. go climb back into your parent's wallet and stay there.

To the thread creator, DU is a great school, but really pricey, but if you're out of state then like somebody above mentioned, its almost the same as CU Boulder. If you want to save money, it would be a good idea to go to a cheap school or a CC for the first year to get in state qualification and kill some gen eds, then transfer over. If you were considering boulder as another option, basically, both good schools, DU is closer to good night life, where as boulder is more of the house party type of town. so pick your preference. Also, if you go to boulder, prepare to be hated on by the rest of Coloradans. especially us denver kids. just a warning.

Do you make your own dreams? Or do you just go where the wind takes you?

Personally, I make my own dreams, which is why I am moving to Summit in a few weeks. I want to ski. I want to be a better skier. When the time comes for me to go back to school then I will go back to school. I don't want major in business. I want to major in food with a minor in the business part of food. I have a plan, and I plan to stick to that plan. I could become an attorney or I could become a doctor and make lots of money, but you see the thing is I don't want to because I don't feel I would be happy doing my job. Would you hire an attorney to represent you that didn't like their job? No. Would you hire a surgeon to perform surgery on you that didn't like their job? No. I want to make food for people because that's what I want to do. Not at Denny's or the Waffle House because I don't want to be there. Anyone can make money in any kind of business if they put their minds and hearts to it. A head chef can make up to $100,000 a year. That's not that bad. Also, be where you want to be. I want to be in CO right now, but in a few years I might want to live in LA.

Think I haven't thought it out now?

I didn't just wake up one day and decide I wanted to be a chef. I mean, a few years ago I had my heart set on equine veterinary, and I wanted to specialize in eyes.

You're calling me out for misinformation? Check your facts retard. Undergrad + MBA is around a 10 year process. You really need 3 years, at least, of work experience. I am sure you can go to your local, bullshit, state college with no work experience. But you need multiple years of work experience for any top 50 program. Fucking learn yourself jerkoff.

I am sure the 24 credits you are taking at your local cc is really tough.

I admit that I might only get 5 days in this season, I have gotten an average of 90 days a season for the last three years, so shut your mouth before you talk to me.

I do float where the wind takes me, that to me is more fun than a linear, predictable life.

Some chefs make $100,000 a year, so do some septic tank cleaners. There is a very small amount of people who make that amount of money compared to the amount of people who went to culinary school.

You don't ski park correct? I am not talking about hitting a flat box and 3ing some 12 foot jump Then why the fuck are you moving to summit county if want to be a better skier?

And no, you couldn't become a doctor, not now, not ever. I would never want you operating on me or giving me advice even if you had your heart and mind set on it.

There is a gap between your dreams in reality. I am not saying this to be a dick or anything, but judging by what you post on here, you are not very smart and can't conform to any form of rational or logical thought. You are the reason I don't vote, your vote should not be worth the same as mine (and other people's should be worth far more than mine) You are the average American. You are the reason other countries dislike us and our economical growth is stagnating.

I am not brilliant or a genius, but I am far more intelligent than you and have a more realistic view of the world. You will not amount to anything aside from some random miracle where events fall into place to benefit you. This is going to sound horribly sexist, but it isn't since it can go both ways: marry rich.

Restaurants, overall, are not a good investment (Aside from franchised places with proven track records). What the fuck do think your culinary school is going to tell you? That they aren't? Their biased views and your selective hearing doesn't make them a good investment.

High risk doesn't make an investment bad. But in this case it is. You need to look at the expect value of the investment and the risk aversion of the person investing, plus many other factors. When these are all integrated there are far better things to put your time and money in than a start up restaurant, like putting your life savings on black at a roulette table.

Here's a little food for thought, which major scores the lowest on the GMAT even though it suits them the best? Answer: business, by a large margin. Fucking retards.

HAHA! He brought politics in to this conversation, guys! HAHA! I believe we were talking about going to school in Denver and now he's telling me to be a golddigger.

FYI I never said I wanted to be a doctor. I said that if I put my mind to it I could, but I don't want to put my mind to it.

Plumbers make a lot of money, but shit ain't my bag.

Being a head chef that makes $100,000 a year is realistic for me. I've thought it through a bunch, and I've done research. I will make it happen.

Again, I don't need to drive an Aston Martin to be happy, and I don't need to ride my hubby's credit card to be happy.

And exactly what's wrong with move to Summit County to be a better skier? I don't see anything wrong with that.

No this has nothing to do with politics. Even aside from those threads every time you post it is the most vapid shit ever. Ever wonder why you don't post ski related stuff anymore? Back in the day you did, and it was retarded, so you stopped. Floridians can't ski. Floridians can't surf. You act like the girl who tries so hard to be one of the guys, it is forced and most guys see right through this.

And no, no matter how hard you tried, you could not become a doctor.

Where has working for your dreams taken you so far? Talk to me 4 years from now and I still highly doubt you will have a bachelors. You will plugging at away at the local cc, dropping classes every time so you're down to 4 credits a semester and treading water in life.

Summit County sucks balls for actual skiing. Breck has the best park in the world and is an ideal place to go on a long drinking binge. But Summit County's terrain is weak as shit as well as its snowfall and will not make a you a better skier. It always brings a smile to my face when some thinks they are so hardcore at skiing and are an non-park skier in Summit County. No where else will you see locals get pumped about a 6" dump. Good luck with 0 degree days in April.

I know you are going to shift the subject to something else so that you don't have to ponder the huge flaws in your life but if you realize your limitations you can make life decisions now that will benefit you in the future when you are the chef at an airport hilton.

WOW, you really are a fucking douche bag. I really don't say that to a lot of people, but honestly - you are.

You don't know me.

I don't know you (other than that you are a fucking douche bag).

Will you still be on NS in four years? Because in four years I want to send you a pic of me living what I said I would do in this particular forum.

CO is what I can buy at this time. I have friends there, a lot of friends there. Should I just drop all my shit and move to Utah or something? Yes, I can become a better skier in Summit. Ever heard of making the best of what you have? I can make the best with what I have.

You never have anything nice to say - ever. You fucking complained about the gapers in Breckenridge. But you fucking know what? Gapers are the people that keep Breck and Vail Resorts still going. It's not the great skiers, boarders or in this case snowbladers that keep them going. It's the rich fucks that make the fucking world go round. It's the rich fucks that are going to pay me this winter to do some ridiculous shit, but I'm going to do it because I'm going to get paid well. I remember that thread and how it died because Julie and some other people chewed you out because you are a whiner. That's all you do. Whine.

It's also the same rich fucks that are going to pay me to make food for them.

So excuse me if I am not going to take what I want by the fucking nads and make the fucking best of it.

Again...

You do not know me, and don't think that you do because you don't. Not even the slightest clue.

This conversation is freaking over because he is just a whiner that wants his way - like a three-year-old. You will not get your way saying what I should do with my life. In fact you shouldn't even give a flying fuck.

Thank you, SkiBlade.

snowblades, you are the reason i keep coming on ns, thank you

back to the thread topic, I as well am a senior in highschool and university of denverl is most definitely high on my list so any more info or comments would be great

my vip goes to DU and she's finnneeeeeee. i can ask her if you still need answers. let me know. but it sounds like you got your life all planned out

I doubt NS will be here in 4 years, or it will have changed greatly from its current state.

I complained about gapers, People did chew me out, but I didn't respond because I was fucking over it and had nothing left to say, not because I was wrong.

Here's the deal, the people chewing me out were people who lived on the Front Range. Do they know what's it like to work that job? No, they have no fucking idea what its like to deal with those fucking retards 45 hours a week. They have no frame of reference. Just because you meet some funny gaper on the chairlift doesn't mean they are fun to deal with. Why should i give a fuck if someone is talking about something they know nothing about?

You think I don't know Breck wouldn't be where its at without gapers? Neither would any other mountain. That doesn't mean I can't complain about their bullshit. Dealing with Texans every day shows you that these people aren't people, they are a subhuman race based on illogical behavior and broken english.

You will not find anyone who lives in Breck and works in rental shop who likes the job. Dealing with gapers everyday will takes it toll. You might not get to this point when you live in Summit County because you are a gaper and will sympathize with them.

Making the best of what you have implies that it is all that you have available to you. You are already moving across the country, moving to somewhere with terrain and snow isn't that hard. Learn to use a fucking cliche correctly.

Didn't you say you're going to be an instructor. Good luck with $9 an hour and scrounging hard for 30 a week while skiing the flattest hill available. After a month you are going to be bitching about it way more than I was, $270 a week, pretax, ain't going to pay the rent and the drinks you have to buy guys to go home with you. So shut the fuck up you condescending cock smoker.

And I obviously do know you or you wouldn't have taken it to heart and gotten so pissed about pointing out your flaws.

And it's snowblades bitch.

No arguing with me doesn't make you a complete idiot. Diverted blame from yourself and not listening to logic and reason makes you a complete idiot.

Have a good life filled with mediocrity.

Why spend so much money on undergrad? I'm not dogging on anyone doing this but you can get a comparable education with half the ca$h. It's not like anyone is going to make you a CEO because you went to DU.

Du hands out money like nobody's business. Unless you have in state tuition to go to CU there is no reason to go there

I've worked in several upscale restaurants and country clubs since I was in high school and throughout college. While none of them I bet paid their chefs 100,000/year. I do know that being a chef is a FULL time job, they work all day, on their feet, running around.

They definitely do not have it easy, and I feel some people think that being a chef is easy when it's really not. Being a chef is strenuous mentally and physically.

I really like cooking, even thought I might make it a career one day. But after I saw what being a chef is really like, it was a huge turnoff. Cooking is fun, I'll leave it as a hobby.

I understand that you plan on running things one day, then you will have more free time. But if you plan to work as a chef until that day, I don't think you will have a lot of free time to do what you want (like becoming a better skier).

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck regardless!

Sorry didn't read. Pastry chefs are slightly different, they prob have more free time than regular chefs. They just have to be at work at like 4:00 AM everyday.
