steel doesn't even support its own weight depending on how thick it is, it bends,  ever pick up some flat bar or steel plates in bends downwards.  And after burning for over an hour  I bet yo the temperature got quite hot, and weakened it.
add to that hundreds of tons of water in the tanks on top, and the sway stabalizer blocks on top. 100's of tons also too much stress for the weak floors, the main steel outside colums were ok but the inside fell apart, then once the floors were gone, the ouside beams just kind of followed. Remember at the end you could see some of the ouside beams still sticking way up towards the sky. it was the inside the problem and not the outer frame
