Looked for something like this and did not find.

I know that the thread below this is about Tux but that one is an angry rant pf nonsense.

Post your stories and experiences here.

Post dates of your trips and what not.

Make yourself known to the BC east coast NSers.

I will be going up on April 13 which is a Sunday. I will be leaving on the 16th. Who else will he there on those dates?

Well i am going to play it by weather and not dates. Seems alot more sensible seeing how the weather can be a total shitshow up there. Either way hoping to do it sometime this april so i can at least ski most of the way down the sherbie, getting excited for sure.

Your lucky. I have a one week window to go up there which is my spring break. Last year it was the first week in april. It was full on winter and avy shit.

Also in reply to your question on the other thread, I really don't know. Which ever chute seems safest at the time.

I'll probably go the weekend after the next one if the weather is good, and then in may again.

Yeah Huntington is wild. Central would be awesome to ski but the snow needs to be perfect. With Avy conditions and the amount of snow you need + the icefall/cliff in the middle it rarely is good. Definitely want to ski it sometime. Will have to invest an ice ax first.

Anyway i really want to ski Dutchess and Dodges when im up there. Definitely going to be watching the weather and if its good i might be up there on spring break with you! Took my avy 1 up there in early March and it is truly amazing.

Dodges is scary as shit man! My dad took 15 years to get the balls to ski it. He came close a couple of times but on time a god damn thunderstorm rolled in. Then the next time some F head set of an avy and tried to out run it. Didn't end well so he helped bring him down. Just make sure you commit to it.

Skiing Tuckerman Ravine this Friday!! I will be shredding Sunday Riv for the pond skim Sunday.

Hit me up if you are as well

Going to be hiking Tucks early May with some buds, unfortunately will miss pond skimming and closing day at the River

Considering Saturday before the ice fall really gets bad so then the headwall will be a possibility. Anyone else?

I want to summit on Monday hopefully, Saturday will be spent finishing the commute from an hour south of Lincoln, stopping at Rodgers in Lincoln to buy new skis. Then Sunday skin up in the early AM get gear in our lean to then go skiing.

Tuck's on new skis? Good luck dude

Anyone have any recent Tux photos to share?

Keeping an eye on the weather. Either headed up this weekend or the next.

I'm surprised you guys are already heading up! The Avalanche Advisory has been saying Moderate for the last few days. I just hope you have your avy gear and some common sense. The snowpack has definitely not turned fully isothermal and new snow is creating wind slabs. Obviously there are ways down but still a chance of a slide for sure.

Yeah I was concerned about that as well. Just that I don't have any other time that I can go up makes it kind of difficult to plan for weather. Also with the warm weather moving in all over the north east we should be good.

Ya I decided to hold off this weekend. Weather not looking great and avy waning went from from low to moderate. Just going to Cannon this weekend

Nice, hopefully it calms down by mid week.

Whats it looking like? I skied it early june 2 years ago. Not really worth the hike but now I can say I did it. Im trying to go soon if any NSers are down

Let's see some updated pics from the bowl. Somebody went this weekend. Is the Sherbie still good down to the parking lot?

Trying to get it together for next weekend, weather depending.

Sheridan is almost washed out. I'm sitting in the Glen Junction right now. Just got off the hill. I'll post my run on left gully when I get home. So much fun and everything. Go up before sherbie is gone.

Will it be too late if I go 4/26?

judging from the weather for my spring break im trying to go the 25th! I think the skiing in the bowl will still be good but the sherbie wont be completely skiable, especially after yesterdays rain

You could always "skin" down

Is that a Saturday or Friday? I think next weekend (not this coming one but the one after) will be the one if the weather holds up. I'll try to go up Saturday, if not last chance at sundance or I'll just go hike Cannon and ski what they have left

Did you guys see the new Working for the Weekend? Freaked me the fuck out because earlier today I was looking at skiing the Great Gulf and Gulf of Slides.

As far as winter/spring hiking goes, how the fuck would you access the Great Gulf? I did it a few summers ago coming in the 7 mile trail and that's a haul. Would you set up a base camp at the bottom of that husbands trail or skin up the cog and make you way down?

Also the Ammo looks like it has pretty easy access just heading up the trail and then cutting off when you're up top. Anyone done that one before?

im pretty sure the normal route for the gulf is hike up ammonousuc ravine or jewell trail from the cog, then go along gulfside trail to where you want to drop in, then hike back up what you skied to gulfside. going down to spaulding lake and out the great gulf trail would be like 9 miles , ive also done it in the summer and it blows.

Pinkham to hermit. Up lobsterclaw. Over alpine gardEn. Dont summit. Over the auto road. Into great gulf. Its either that or the gulf of slides. But I beilieve that is the great gulf.

Ya that's the great gulf you're thinking of. I guess I could just bring some camping gear up, take that route, ski the gulf and set up a camp at the 7 husbands trail (I don't really remember the name) and them hike out the next day

Or just climb and ski back to hermit. Its mainly flat or at least skinable from great gulf to the bowl

I think it's faster to come from the north than to hike from pinkham notch and climb up lobster claw. I've done that on the way to the summit and it's definitely time consuming. From what I hear, most everyone who skis Great Gulf comes in from the North.

Anyone going up tomorrow (saturday)?

I stay at hermit everytime so I never come from the north.
