Lower income people generally live in cities. I can walk about 7 minutes to get to my voting station. Guess what. 90% of people who don't have transportation live within a mile of a voting booth.

You pointing the finger saying lower income people CAN'T vote is a joke. That's same argument saying they're too stupid to get an ID.

If you really can't get to the polling station then you get an absentee ballot. So there goes your "Can't show up logic" altogether.

What more bullshit pandering can you come up with? It's hilarious.

You've mentioned you're from CT/NY area, have the ability to work remotely ~1 month/year, and are a skier. Putting that together tells me you likely work in a white-collar job and make enough to support your hobbies. I'd reckon your income puts you squarely within the middle-class income bracket which is ~$50k-$150k/year.

I'm not saying they can't, I'm saying it's disproportionately difficult for them. There's a massive difference. For some, this means they literally cannot vote because of timing/monetary/other reasons, for others it means they have to jump through lots of hurdles to do so.

The data backs up this. There's no disputing it.

There have been studies done on how difficult it is to vote by non-partisan groups:https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/elj.2022.0041

Want to know which states tend to rank in the most difficult? Republican ones, many of whom are engaging in activities making it more difficult. The parties that tend to

The fact you're trying to justify making voting more difficult is absurd.

If anything, it should be made extremely easy for an individual to vote. But the GOP isn't doing that. There's no argument you can make that can justify this.

I respect your opinion. I'm not supporting making voting more difficult. I'm just stating the fact that voting once every four years really isn't difficult in the first place. Thats obviously my opinion and I'll stand by it. If you can't get to the ballot. You can respectfully request an absentee ballot. Which has been done for 100 years at this point?

I don't get why an absentee ballot isn't good enough.. but thats like my white privilege I guess.

The only fact you’re stating is that it isn’t difficult for YOU to vote every 4 years. You cannot state for a fact what every other person in the us goes through to vote.

I also have a polling station literally a mile from me. So I don’t have any trouble voting. I also understand that is not the norm for most of the US.

but where are you getting that info from? theres 118,000 polling stations in the united states. chances are there is one a mile from wjere you live.

Since you're so worried about the poor people in inner cities voting... You're accepting they don't live in houses in the suburbs right? Those polling stations are definitely further away.

So yea, almost all polling stations are in the city you live.

it's just such a weak argument that it's laughable.

I'm over the narrative.

zero facts and support. "poor people dumb, they can't vote"

Once again you still havn't addressed the absentee ballot WHICH IS THE FUCKIN REASON THEY EXIST.

You’re arguing with the wrong person my dude. I’ve never once mentioned anything about any of that. I simply asked if you actually lived in Florida (like I do) and then simply stated that your experience just like mine isn’t the norm for everyone in the US.

Because states are making harder to get absentee ballots. How many times do I have to write this?

Arizona and Virginia legislation would eliminate the use of drop boxes altogether or prohibit the use of unmonitored drop boxes

At least six bills in five states would prohibit election officials from sending out mail ballots or ballot applications unless a voter has affirmatively requested one

Bills in Mississippi and South Carolina would shorten the time period for submitting an absentee ballot application

Thirteen bills in three states would curtail who can request an absentee ballot.

A Mississippi bill would bar students who are away from the county where they are registered from casting a mail ballot.

A series of Missouri bills would require that the caretaker of an individual with an illness or disability reside at the same address as that individual to vote absentee.

Virginia lawmakers have proposed bills that would eliminate no-excuse mail voting altogether.

Other Virginia bills would repeal the permanent absentee voter list and reinstate a requirement for voters with disabilities to submit an annual application to vote by mail

That's not even covering the increase in ways for states to reject mail-in ballots:

Three bills in Missouri, New Jersey, and Washington propose new opportunities to reject a mail ballot

lmao cite some sources if you want facts cause as far as I can see its pretty one sided in that department.

Voter fraud isn't actually a widespread issue as shown by probes from either party never finding shit. Why are Republicans in particular still constantly spewing rhetoric about its importance then? If it ain't broke then don't fix it, yet Republican legislators keep passing bills adding hurdles to vote. It doesn't matter how high/difficult the hurdle is because every new step is still an extra obstacle that will decrease turnout. My guess is that it could have to do with unpopular and regressive policies and consolidating power.

Its not rocket appliances, just a small bit of critical thinking looking at the big picture. You can go tit for tat poking holes in arguments all day long but it doesn't change that you're missing the point.

Same reason gerrymandering is still taking place.

I don’t think it matters even if everyone can theoretically find the means to vote, it should still be as easy as possible. People who don’t care too much about voting can’t afford to face more hurdles when they borderline aren’t going to vote anyways.

While access to booths definitely plays a role, the biggest reason that poor people dont vote is that they wont really feel the effects anyway

Since voter suppression and housing of party agendas through sus means is a hot topic here, I'll repost this here.

Last year. Removed summer special elections for sketchy reasons.

1070238.jpeg

This spring because ya know abortion and weed will be the downfall of us all. They want to reinstate the special election that they specifically got rid of in a partisan vote. They want to reinstate it for the specific vote to require 60% majority on amendments. They want to get this done so it impacts the November elections. Fucked up for many reasons. Hypocracy is strong here. That's only a fraction of the voting changes that were enacted.

I wish politics were irrelevant again. You used to have to seek it out as things were still going on but now its just shoved down your throat every damn day. I hope the most boring candidate wins every election forever. I’m literally gonna live the exact same lifestyle no matter who is president.

I mean elections are the worst part of politics(especially in america) but they definitely aren’t the only part, or the most important part

also this isnt an attack on you but saying you wont change your lifestyle is a pretty privileged thing since many politicians are actively trying to make it hard for certain people to live

I mean that has to be one the most outrageous statements I've ever seen when it comes to politics.

Elections aren't the most important part?

You mean the only process where, we, the voters, get to find representation for our morals/values/stances/beliefs by picking a candidate that most closely supports these ideals isn't the most important part of politics?

Shit. If that's not the most important part, I don't know what is. It is literally the only manner that we can actually influence politics at any level beyond ballot measures propositions.

If we are talking just about america, then we dont really influence policy too much. Its just between two parties that are basically the same.

I was talking about politics in the theory sense, but that was poorly articulated.

Yea I work hard and the government steals 30% of my income. I live in a city with lots of low income people yes. Guess what - they can walk to the fucking polling stations if they need to. The problem is the democrats pretend to cater to minorities. THey don't actually help them.

So 41.9% of the population? Because that's our obesity rate (that's only increasing), with severe obesity (your 400lb person) at 9.2%. The highest rates are actually in black and Hispanic populations. America is fat man. 73.6% are obese or overweight.

What about old people who make up an also increasing percentage of the population? Shall they not vote either if they can't walk a mile?

Every citizen should have the right to vote. The fact you're arguing against that is insane. Shit we let full blown skinheads vote and I don't see any complaints about that.

Gotta cater to the minorities. They need their votes. it's hilarious too because they pretend to care about lower income, less abled people. But in reality every politician only cares about staying in power and getting as rich as possible.

We need term limits!

It's kinda funny because people want it to seem like the basic requirements to be an adult (i.e. have ID) is an infringement on voting rights lmao they think we're too dumb to realize it's just a grift to get undocumented people to vote

Ah yes, the claim that the undocumented vote and have a material impact on elections.

Remind me how many ineligible voters due to citizenship status have been caught voting in elections again.

Oh right.

Less than 1,000 per The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

Extend that to all cases of voter fraud, and you've got ~1,500.

Remember, the burden of proof for these claims is on the accuser. The data shows it's immaterial.

Lol having an ID is necessary for most things in life. To drive a car, to operate a vehicle. You know, every day normal things.

You know what, I'm offended that bartenders ask me to prove how old I am. Let's get rid of ID's at bars. That way we can let 10 year olds drink.

The fact that you're arguing that having verification makes it harder to vote makes you look stupid and racist my dude.

The thing is, the data backs up the minority/race aspect.

Minorities tend to be more highly affected by voter suppression attempts.

You can argue with the data all you want, but there are people much smarter than you or me doing to research into this and those are the conclusions they've made.

Kind of like in Florida how WE the people voted to give rights back to felons yet the republicans have done everything they can here to drag their feet and not let it be enacted. They’re still arresting people who thought they had their rights back. Because we fucking voted and passed it to give them back.
