So fucking pumped for this. what do people think? reckon it'll live up to the original? also once it's out this thread can be for discussion

Season 1 was fucking brilliant. I don't know how they're going to surpass it, but if they do, I'll be one happy camper.

Yeah hopefully he can pull off serious. I have seen a lot of comic actors do serious stuff well though so here's hoping

That didnt show much but it looks good. I will watch.

yeah it's just a teaser. there'll be a more comprehensive one soon i'm sure.

maybe not though, it's so hyped they could rake in the viewers without any trailer at all

Idk I know alot of people who dont know about the show or never took the time to watch.

I thought the same thing with mcconoughy for season 1 and that worked out well. Im gonna do my best to not compare it to the first season though because idk how they can match or surpass how good it was.

this

but you have to remember they were super fucking long episodes and the beginning of it did drag its self out for a bit too. Overall it was probably one of the better shows to air, ever.

out of everyone who did watch it though, how many have said they didn't like it?

i don't know a single person who didn't enjoy it, and 99.9% of them will want to watch this too purely based on their enjoyment of the last one

This is true. But I had to tell almost everyone to "just keep watching, it picks up. I promise" so I wouldn't be surprised if some people never finished it.

The first season did built up slowly, and then the last two episodes were just a huge "HOLY FUCK THERE IS SO MUCH GOING ON". I'm hoping for that type of intensity in the second season. If it's anything like the first season, it won't be disappointing.

I thought Woody and McConaughey would be weird together and it was incredible.

i don't see how it could be better than season 1. season 1 was the best 8 hours of television i have ever seen. still looking forward to season 2 though. i think vince vaughn can pull off drama with the right writing/direction and colin farrell was in some good movies earlier in his career (minority report, the recruit).

Ugh Colin Farrell with a mustache wearing a loose bolo...

I don't know. I have a tremendous amount of faith in the show and I'm going into it with an open mind, but I have literally never seen Colin Farrell do anything worth watching, and I unfortunately saw some of his trademark furrowed brow retard face in that trailer, but we'll see. I think Vince Vaughn is capable of some good stuff, but it's a questionable role for both of them which could lead to issues. Who knows, I'm sure it will be great since it's such a well thought out show and has a big reputation to live up to, but I'm concerned about the actors as well as the worn off novelty of the show's gritty feel

new trailer yeeeeee

They're really relying on the past season's reputation. That trailer didn't really show anything, it just played dramatic music to get you amped up for when it said TRUE DETECTIVE at the end

Taylor Kitsch is awesome, stoked to see him getting some cool roles. I'm fucking pumped for this

I think it will have a different flavor compared to season 1 but I'm really pumped for this. I love how Nic Pizollatto has made it an anthology series so you see different lights and aspects of different "true detectives" around the nation, not just the same show continuing on. I trust the writers, actors, and directors can make Vaughn and Ferrel suck you in to the story just like McConaughey and Woody did.

Haha i thought the same thing. It kinda seemed like a middle of the season episode. I felt like i was missing so much information and had no idea what was going on for most of the episode

Part of what made the first season so awesome was the backdrop, this season seems flat and generic. and Vince Vaughn, man, I wanted to see him do well but I don't think he can do dramatic roles; maybe he'll settle into his character in later episodes.

I don't think he was bad at all, I just expect him to crack a joke every time he pauses.

not watched the episode yet but if you remember, the first season was kinda slow to start too, so i wouldn't discount it just yet!

100% this. It felt like you just dived right into episode 4 of the season or something.

I don't even think there was a plot until the very last scene.

I guess the last session was similar. I was kind of confused at first. But then it came together.

Also, a weird episode to watch with my mom.

Were they talking about anal when they left the bedroom?

i'm totally not writing it off yet. I just didn't know what the fuck was going on the entire first episode. It was obviously really slow which made it hard to watch late at night.

I thought it was WAY TOO fast, and the writers / director didn't give nearly anytime for character development. I felt like they were expecting people to ride the hype coat-tails of season 1 and just hop right into it which was stupid. Really hoping HBO didn't just absolutely fuck one of the best shows on tv.

while i was really confused while watching it i now think i understand the point of the episode. it was just creating a backstory for the personalities of the characters as well as showing how intricate the connection that each character had to the dead guy (it was casper for those of you who didn't read the ID in the wallet)

the writing is so good...super subtle which I really like.

This season is gonna prime...not more rust tho :(

can someone find a torrent link for me? the site i usually use is down. blu ray definition as far as possible pleeeease :)

I thought that episode wasn't quite as compelling as episode 1 of last season, but it still has the potential to be pretty damn cool. I'll have to wait it out for the next few episodes before I can decide.

Admittedly, I am already lost. I thought the episode was great, not necessarily as captivating as the season before, but great in its own right. Last season, we were introduced to the dynamic between Marty and Rust basically from the get-go, while we're waiting to see how things develop between the characters that aren't immediately interconnected. I was actually mildly impressed with Vince Vaughn in a serious role. I thought he was great.

Rachel McAdams with no make-up, short hair, and a tight bum is an absolute smokebomb, much to my delight.

Not normally into short hair, but she pulls it off well.

Anyone know if they're only doing 8 episodes again?

Pretty much my exact thoughts, but I was more excited about the no-bra look.

hahaha i think they were. something definitely got the guy shaken anyway, and with all the knives and other shit going on with her i reckon she's pretty hardcore haha

i'm gonna need to watch it through again, just to bring everything together. i thought it was a good start overall though, i didn't really find it too slow or too fast. different to last season but i liked the way it didn't tie them all together straight away.

the way the all looked at each other in slow motion with the circular camera made me want to punch myself though.

I had no problem with the pacing. It's the first episode so I'll refrain cynicism with regards to the pace.

I just feel it's missing the cinematography and backdrop of the previous season, which, in my opinion, is what made season 1 so brilliant.

It's on HBO right now so I'm giving it a re-watch. Some things I didn't pick up on...

Colin Farrell's character (I still don't know names yet) 100% killed the man who raped his wife.

I did not pick up on Casper, Vinci's city manner, being the dead guy either.

Is the girl the Taylor Kitsch character seeing the one who was presumed missing?

Yeah when the lawyer asks him about it and he zones out, then the flashback where Vince Vaughn gives him details of the guy you realise he definitely dealt with is himself.

Nah I don't think so, they do look similar but I'm 99% sure its just a coincidence

Yes, i think so. I'm sure it will all somehow come together, I don't see how that story-line is even relevant yet. It just seems like they were trying to draw a connection between Ani & Paul.

Gonna rewatch it before Sunday.

But how cool was it when Colin when ape shit on that kids dad?

"if you ever bully someone again i'll buttfuck your dad with your mom's headless corpse right here on your lawn"

or words to that effect
