True Detective Season 2

I don't think I'm going to look at him as anything besides Colin Farrell.

how can you? Did they even give us a name? I think I head his name once or twice at the most in the episode.

I thought the episode was otherwise fairly boring. We moved along some character development which was nice, but the soliloquy from Frank at the beginning was odd and basically unintelligible. I've found this season riddled with outlandish dialogue and one-liners, hopefully it slows down a little. Obviously, the ending had a shock factor to it, but we'll see what happens.

Season one started out with the wired/shock factor, and developed the characters from there. This season is starting with displaying the duality/conflict of the characters and bringing in the wired/shock factor.

Also, woody harrelson and matthew mcconaughey were perfect for the two rolls. Vince Vaughn is a comedy actor, Rachel McAdams is that really cute gal from Wedding Crashers, and Colin Farrel is Colin fucking Farrel. Makes it harder to build new charcters off of them.

Actually Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams are doing a pretty good job, but Colin Farrel is still Colin Farrel, and apparently dead.

McAdams is crushing her role & VV is definitely holding his own. McAdams look; short hair, no make-up, kinda rough and tumble is definitely helping her give off a more serious vibe, and she's killing the dialogue.

Also, you and I are associated in too many threads. find your own thread, damnit!

As if that doesn't describe the first season perfectly..

at least that was in line with one of the characters' make-up. Rust was, at the very least, eccentric making his dialogue pretty absurd at times.

the dialogue in this season just comes off as out of place.

E Cig robot dick joke and more flies with honey than vinegar fly fishing joke were such great kills. RIP Colin I had hope for you in a dark humor sicko suicidal In Bruges role

i really don't see where you're coming from here. the monologue (it wasn't a soliloquy) was kinda hard to hear but it was just an anecdote from his past that shows partly why he's obviously pretty fucked up. like it was hard to hear but not understand.

the whole style of true detective is that it's deeper than your average cop show, and part of the package is more profound and philosophical dialogue rather than superficial chat. like its more than just a whodunnit, its a critique of society ad human nature.

to be fair, we didn't actually see him die. i mean yeah it's almost a certainty but you never know, he could have been wearing kevlar! i'm remaining hopeful haha

which thing in which bathroom?

I don't know toward the end in Casper's other house.. Some thing in the bathroom?? Before he gets shot.

Ah okay, nah ray goes in and finds blood on the floor and some sort of sex swing or whatever (we knew Caspere was bound before he was killed) and behind a two way mirror there was a camera filming the room hooked up to what looked like an internet modem.

Presumably something to do with the online porn stuff we've seen stuff about, but also if the cameras filming, it probably has footage of who killed him (assuming that's his blood on the floor)

Oooooooh it was a camera??? That's all I was confused about. I didn't see what it was.

soliloquy, monologue... forgive me, I haven't taken an english class in 6 years now.

that said, i don't have much of a gripe with the opening monologue, it's more so the stupid one-liners that characters seem to drop all the time...

"don't do anything out of hunger, not even eating"

the quip about a robots dicks

"when you walk it's like two erasers clapping"

"can't go fly fishing without flies"

and there are more...

hearing some of these is just painfully awkward.

also, no blood spatter from a point-blank shotgun blast? for a show that's obsesses in the details, that was a bit fishy.

To each their own, I thought they were pretty funny

Yeah that's what I was thinking, as I said above we didn't see him die or even bleed so maybe he was wearing a vest.

Also did anyone sense a bit of tension between ray and Rachel McAdams (Antigone) when they were in the car? Or is that just me

This. I think Ray survives it, even though it may seem kind of cheesy but who knows maybe I'm wrong. Also, I think one of Frank's guys is in on everything and trying to fuck him over i.e. losing out on the pollution distribution rights with Caspere having the money in hand and never delivering. Frank obviously gave Ray the location in where to go but I don't think Frank wanted Ray axed. He's too big of an asset to him.

Also could have been rocksalt or birdshot if he wanted to torture Ray first, which judging by Casper, seems like that dude's style.

Yeah I hadn't thought of that. I reckon shits gonna get (even more) gruesome haha

Rubber bullets...close enough.

i still don't know what to think of this season yet. I'm going to give it time, but I think they may have set the bar too high last year.

So the motorcycle guy, after his confrontation with that other dude he worked with at Black Mtn...I don't know if I misinterpreted what the other guy said but it sounds like they had a gay moment...

Anyways the show is developing nicely. Starting to get a good read on the characters.

Vaughn-Criminal with a moral code and sense of right and wrong

Farrell-Detective at the end of his rope, thinking he's starting to want to solve the case. at least for himself.

McAdams-No clue on her yet. She's not hard charging, but not completely mellow. She knows Farrell is corrupted but doesnt seem to care. Very lax at the moment.

Motorcycle dude- Obvious fucked up past in the military (or private contracting), has terrible relationships, seems very interested in the case

Still not far enough in to really formulate any theories but if season 2 stays true to season 1 than Im sure we have already been given hints.

this has been a theory throughout. He needed the blue pill to get it up for his girlfriend. he made a pretty overt homophobic comment that just felt out of place. he was very antsy in the club with the other guys.

I'm thinking Frank Semyon's right hand man (his name is escaping me) might be the dude with the crow mask. He's awful quiet when Frank asks him who might be trying to take him down, and his stature kinda matches up with the crow-guy's.

hmmm. that's interesting, I didn't really think of that. He's a pretty sketchy dude.

Yeah you're right its pretty obvious, except for ep. 1 with the whole "soliciting sex" thing from when he pulled over that girl. Who knows maybe he's bi, but I have a feeling this is important in some way or they wouldn't give us all the clues they did.

Good point. Plus whoever is doing this to Frank 1) needed to know Franks dealings with Caspere, and 2) needs to know about how Franks business works. Someone on the inside would be advantageous.

You should probably go back and rewatch the first three episodes if that's how you're getting a read on the characters.

His gayness is ultimately what is going to get him out of that charge, I just know it. He didn't want a blowjob from that chick because he is gay, and hence why the accusation is totally fake.

Was anything I said blantantly wrong? I think im spot on with farrell and vaughns characters

it's starting out kinda slow, the only remotely interesting character so far is Ray and he's not half as interesting as Rust. i have a feeling True Detective will go the same way as American Horror Story did and just have only one or two good seasons before becoming a pile of trash.

Holy Fucking Shit. That was crazy. Makes me wonder what Officer Woodrugh saw in his special ops days since that whole shootout barely phased him.

haha, that was the first thing I thought after the shooting stopped. She's all freaking out, he's just standing there like it's just another day. Meh, nbd.

This season sucks

i find myself kind of agreeing. last season, the plot lot was genuinely interesting. as the case progressed, i was trying to solve the murders on my own. every time they followed a lead, i was speculating as to its legitimacy. this season is playing too much on the shock factor. They're relying on the big, shocking, exciting scenes to drive our perception of the show. I don't know how much worse this season is, but I do know it's different. I'm not following the plot or the case at all. I find myself following the action.
