Town Hall Debate

im not saying you can fix it with the snap of a finger... it will take time.....

but I PERSONALLY would not paying higher taxes if the money was going to pay down the debt, and NOTHING ELSE.

think i dont know how big a number that is? wrong, we are spending almost a trillion on this "bail out" package.. we spend over 3 trillion a year... yeah, i clearly have no grasp on money...

hehe, to be honest, I doubt it will ever be paid off. Unless the USA invents some new type of renewable energy or some crazy ass invention to sell to the rest of the world.

FUCK OFF.

i am so sorry i made a small spelling mistake.. please forgive me JD, o my god, i am most sorry.

i beg for your most divine forgiveness.

"foreign" you happy now?

First poll out tonight is CBS', it's a poll of 400 uncommitted voters. Keep in mind that this is a small sample.

Obama - 39%

Tie - 35%

McCain - 27%

CNN Flash Poll...

wait. One more time, because there are WAY too many stupid people on this website who can't read. A CNN poll means that CNN conducted the poll. They called a bunch of debate watchers and asked them who they thought won the debate. It is, in other words, not biased whatsoever. So when you go "oh, CNN poll, whatever, Fox's will be different", you might as well be saying, "I am roughly as smart and useful as a fire log."

Ok, so, CNN Flash poll:

Obama - 54%

McCain - 30%

Does anyone else think they are remarkably similar?, and either way the US is getting a centre-right president? It seems that way to me. Poor representation.

so basically, no matter which of the two wins, america is going socialist. thank god for dual citizenship, because unless a libertarian somehow miraculously wins, then fuck america, i'm jumping ship before it sinks completely.

More CNN / Opinion Research flash poll numbers. See my post above if you've been drinking gasoline in the meantime and have already forgotten: the answers have nothing to do with the fact that CNN was conducting it, they're polling random debate watchers.

Who was more likeable:

Obama - 65%

McCain - 28%

Who expressed his ideas more clearly?

Obama - 60%

McCain - 30%

Who seemed like the stronger leader?

Obama - 54%

McCain - 43%

Who was more intelligent in the debate?

Obama - 57%

McCain - 25%

Who would better handle the economy?

Obama - 59%

McCain - 37%

Who would better handle Iraq?

Obama - 51%

McCain - 47%

IT DOESN'T MATTER. Fuck, how hard is this to understand! If anyone, liberal, conservative, socialist, communist, fucking scientologist calls you up and asks you "Who won the debate"... How the fuck is your answer interpreted as biased?! The pollsters aren't answering FOR these people. How is this hard to understand?

I'm not going off on you, just in general how everyone always says "Ohhh, CNN Poll, they're in the tank"... it's so fucking dumb. Do you really think that CNN asking you who won, without telling you it's a CNN poll, actually somehow sways your support to Obama? Really? The stupidity of it is just apalling.

its true, cnn poll is still just a poll, obama seems to be the popular vote as the winner.

If you want to argue that CNN is biased you could more logically do it on the basis that all 6 of their analysts scored the debate in favour of Obama.

gall.scorecard.cnn.jpg

You're right, I read it wrong. It's weird how Castellanos was apparently madly clicking buttons and Gergen thought no one said anything useful all night.

yeah, but you gotta remember, these are undecided voters, who, if they didn't have a clue who they were going to vote for by now, probably don't have much of a clue at all, considering these guys (and supporters) are polar opposites on almost everything besides gender.

the basis of pretty much all those questions (barring MAYBE the last two, though i'm not totally convinced) derive from the first; being "likeability" (you could throw charisma in there was well). and let's be honest, obama has the edge in both those categories. just a thought.

but you are right about the channels not being subject to bias, anyone who uses that as an excuse is just looking for ways to discredit the stats. i think, haha. if obama won it, he won it.

I would have to say that I think Obama won the debate. I don't think he necessarily did a lot better then McCain but he just did a lot better then expected. As usual I didn't really learn anything new from a bunch of politicians bickering but McCain got really annoying with the 'my friends' and Obama came across as a little more pompous then I like. Unfortunately I only saw the second half and I hear Obama did really well in the first half, and I think he barely held his own in the second half. I'm still leaning slightly towards McCain bun I'm not really happy with either option....

Heres why

The top 1% of Americans own around 34% of the wealth in the U.S. while the bottom 80% own only approximately 16% of the wealth

^sorry for the double but i'm aware it says "random debate watchers" and i said "undecided voters" but if the poll was anything but undecided voters then there's no way you can get an accurate, unbiased answer to any of those questions. just to clear that up.

Well, you should definitely watch the first half then and come to some conclusions based on that, because it was all economic issues. MSNBC will be replaying the whole thing over again starting at 1 EST 10 PST, and CNN restarted it 10 minutes ago.

Yeah, I think the whole thing is gonna be posted on cbsnews.com and I definitely will watch the first half, I heard and hope that more was accomplished in the first half because I really felt like the only thing of any substance in the second half that I saw was them debating healthcare and they really didn't get too into that. And when they talked a little about foreign policy I felt they didn't do more then glaze over a few issues.

"very good, billy. now explain WHY you think what you do? remember, ad hominems don't prove or disprove anything."

hahahahhahah this is just to perfect, i dont even need to put any thought into this post. you did it for me! woo! haha

or they aren't business men who are a plague to our country, syphoning money out of others pockets.

NO but seriously, there are so many different reasons a person could be at a financially different place than any other person.

for example, maybe you run a sick organization like alpine initiatives and dont pull in a huge income.

ALSO the top 1% barely know what to do with their money

you mean it didnt quote only the first part of your post????

wow, interwebz is "fucked"

"Appealing to personal considerations rather than to logic or reason"

even if i had intended to have the "ad hominem" in there, doesn't the definition apply here?

"appealing to one's prejudices, emotions, or special interests rather than to one's intellect or reason."

I agree. Worked in the great depression. The gov. should be bailing out people on main street and not just wall street...it's a proven fact. Although i like this debate, there was a lot of "he said...." in it, and i hate it when it boils down to that. Like "Senator Obama said that I did ____ but that is a lie. I didn't do that blah blah blah." State your own policies, don't speak put words in each others' mouths. Obama did it too. While i completely support Obama, I think McCain was more impressive than in previous debates....

That's a pretty terrible definition. It's simple, ad hominem means against the man... you're attacking the person himself instead of his arguments.

AGAIN, FUCK OFF!

i know you are o most superior and far smarter than i...

believe it or not, i did KNOW what it meant, not to the exact wording, but i knew what it meant...

i took debate in HS and i know a thing or two, got that? GOOD.

Hahaha, I think you made the right call.

MSNBC will be repeating it in half an hour at 1EST.

i really just dont understand why you have to tax people that have worked hard to get where they are and make more money than a lot of people. i dont get that. now people that have done it in illegal ways or lied to investors, like the stuff that has happened recently those people should obviously be charged with something and lose a lot of what they have.

Another gold McCain quote is there is "No history of violence between Sunni and Shia Muslims" or something along those lines, it may not be exactly those words

someone's vagina seems a little sandy tonight....not to try to start an internet fight.....

i took debate too... i don't know everything that went on tonight and the connotations and consequences of what the candidates said.

Gracias. Ill reserve my comments for this thread for afterwards. And hell yeah it was the right call. Reasons was epic as hell. AND i won free shit :)

He doesnt elaborate much at all. At least it seems that way to me. He just kind of bounces around questions. mccain isnt an amazing speaker but he inst terrible, obama is supposed to be the god of all gods when it comes to speaking but i must say he doesnt sound great at debates and without a teleprompter or if breaks he is terrible. if you know your exact plans as to what you are going to do when speaking on a certain subject if something happens and you lose your notes or speech you should be able to speak on it and just literally stop and die out and barely get a word out of your mouth.

ok my bad, i had my own mental definition as "attacking the person without basing your attack on logic" my bad.

"that's because the people at the bottom are lazy and stupid. if they

worked as hard as the top 1% they wouldn't need government handouts..."

i know this is sarcastic, thats why i started my post with "ahahahahahaha"

correct me if i am wrong, but isnt this also an argument(if it were serious, and not sarcastic) because you are propping up the idea that all poor people are stupid and lazy? then you are attacking the person devoid of any logical thought?

ght that this this just in, fox statistics aren't statistics...i mean i've never watched the debates on fox before nor have i listend to hannity & colmbs, so maybe this isn't news to you... BUT fact is Fox pollings are done just like american idol. text your vote to number.

there have been some contests on ns that had more legit stats than what fox news is putting out.

anyways here are the fox numbers

McCain taking it 86% to 12% Obama

compair that with the CNN actual poll

(i would like to know Cnn's +/- estimates)

He will pay for it by raising the taxes of the people who already supply over 75% of government tax revenue (rich people) and lowering taxes for people who already pay little to no taxes relatively. Therefore, he can lower 95% of American's taxes and bend over the most successful people. I will recieve a tax break, awesome. Now I have another $25 every month. Someone else is going to lose millions a year. It works (might even be necessary), but it's not right and I wish America wasn't stuck in this cycle.

overall i don't think either candidate had enough afterbang, but McCain's t-rex arms are hurting his steeze
