Coming from a working graphic designer...the disclaimer is bullshit. If you want someone to design a ski for you, give them credit. Don't bribe them with gear and then essentially steal their artwork and claim it as your own.
I deal with this stuff all the time and I always have clients sign contracts stating that they do not own the artwork I design for them, and they have no right to reproduce it without permission. Designing is my job and I need to cover my ass to get paid. Obviously, this is a contest, and you guys are looking for a good design on the cheap, but at least give them credit. I'm not saying you have to pay the winner the standard price for a ski design, but don't just jack their shit.
I would love to enter, but not under these conditions. All my work goes on my portfolio site, and is claimed as my own, because I created it.
And BTW, $2000 for a ski design is nothing, especially if it's really illustrative. Something like that could take easily 30-40 hours from concept, to thumbnails, to mock-up, to vectoring. That is assuming you don't do a full size original illustration as well, not on the computer.
