Tips for teaching a women to drive manual?

only if youre going really slow in too high a gear, or hardly moving. you don't need to press the clutch every time you touch the brake though

Problem is she learned in my legacy which has a super squishy girly clutch, and I'm giving her my old sentra which has a stiffer clutch. That's going to be another battle but I think she has the steps down pat. Any way to make the clutch girly in my sentra so it's easier for her?

have her ride a dirt bike or something in that sence. same the gears are like the same thing, they way you have to use the clutch and such

I literally taught my little brother in 15 minutes by just letting him do it. Explained it super basic and said, "Ok go"...maybe he was natural but he said just letting him go helped a ton, instead of feeling like he was on the spot. Its how I learned, I took my parents car so there was no pressure.

stall it fifty times at 3000 RPM (maybe a steep hill is needed, and a nice underground so the wheels wont slip), that should do quite well.

hahahha that video should work. and i waiting for wiki to join this thread :D

and (liam) OP, congrats on her getting down the basics. glad to hear it.

It's different in the fact I didn't need to have some one teach me how to release a pedal and push another pedal at the same time. I just got in the car and made it work. But I tend to find that men have more of a drive to learn a manual because if you don't your friends rip on you for being a pussy, plus this.

haha it'll happen, just be patient and make sure she's understanding what you're saying when you say wait for the clutch to catch. she'll get it soon!

Idk if anyone said this I dnt wana read through it but start in 1st and dnt give it gas just let her get used to the clutch catching then once she gets it tell her to give the gas as it begins to roll and let it out slow. It's way easy I taught my 16 yr old sister how to drive a zr6 in like an hour using this technique

oh geez. my parents sold my automatic first car right before spring break my senior year of hs. gave me the keys to a manual and said 'if you want to go anywhere, figure it out'. i can drive anything now. i guess what im trying to say..... she will learn if she cares. and if she doesn't, give up.

Exactly what I was going to say...dont use the gas at first...just ease off on the clutch and as the car begins to roll you will get a feel for it....then add gas...

I wasn't talking about teaching... I don't let people drive my car. But now that I think about it I know 2 girls that can drive stick

Probably shouldn't have assumed that it's somehow more difficult to teach a woman to drive a manual.

I know some retarded male drivers that I wouldn't want to try explaining manual shifting to.

The biggest help to teaching someone how to drive a manual is to remain patient! The learner will be getting frustrated enough as it is and you don't want any compounding frustration shit going on

i've decided to respond to this seriously now. If you have the luxury of living out in the country and have access to a clutch quad/ motor bike, try to teach her with one of these first. she will get a feel for letting the clutch out as you lay on the gas and she will know what to expect when trying this in the vehicle.

Actually you're just an idiot. I would never let anyone drive my car (I guess besides my boyfriend). They crash it, your insurance won't cover it, even if it's not their fault. If it is their fault, YOU'RE liable AND your insurance won't cover it. Yeah so your car is a piece of shit and it doesn't matter if it gets wrecked... But it DOES matter if your friend hits a brand new BMW.

I have a truck that's not that sick, but most of the people that want to drive my car say they know how to drive stick because someone taught them in like 45 minutes. I'm not trying to get my clutch fucked up or have them crash my car

yeah get her dad to buy her a stick shift and then try and teach her, when she has problems have him yell at her till she cries and have him threaten to take away the car and never buy her anything but new tires for her bike cus thats the only mode of transportation she is going to have if she cant learn to drive stick...thats what my dad did for me, it worked like a charm.

you are so full of shit, if you had no one told you what anything did, and you couldnt already drive, you cant just 'learn it on your own'. you knew what a clutch was and a throttle, maybe you hadnt tried a clutch but you knew how it worked from someone. and plenty of guys have self esteem issues as well. a friend of mine committed suicide at 17, he sure wasnt the picture of happiness the last time i saw him. fuck you.
