Timberline summer conditions?

I'm just wondering how it is up there... Snow conditions? Park scene/features? I live in Oregon so it's not much of a drive, just want to know what it's like before I blow some cash on a pass.

Park is pretty fun. Snow levels are really low. It looks like late June/early July. Can't imagine Stormin Norman will be open much longer.

How's palmer though? How's the park up there?

No park on palmer yet. Im assuming they are going to move public up to mile after WCS, but mile doesnt look like it is going to be lappable within the next few weeks.

Thinking about heading out for a trip in mid-june. I've been hearing good and bad things about the summer public park but I don't know who I can trust. Been hearing that there aren't many features, you have to hike if you want to lap, it's far away from the lift. Hoping that's all bull. Anyone with experience want to shed some light?

Typically the public park is just skiers left of the mile chair lift. and you can lap it until mid/late June. They usually have a pipe, 2 jumps, half a dozen rails and a couple weird snow mounds. This year however, with the low snow pack, you probably won't be able to lap the public park past the beginning of June. Assuming they push snow down to the lift. The park is sure to be fun but to lap you will probably have to take your skis off and walk a little bit to the bottom of the Mile lift.

Even when you can lap the chair lift a lot of people hike the features in public park just because its quicker.

saga is pretty spot on with that, except this year public is going to be skiers right of the mile since the canyon has hardly any snow pack in it. Hiking to the lift is going to be a very soon thing unless we get some good storms.. snowed today and last night btw. The other day at bottom of mile snows getting to the point where you gotta walk into the bottom of mile terminal from about 6feet out. not bad but gonna be later on.

stormin norman has become a base killer from the first 3 towers down

But is there eventually going to be a public park on palmer?

Last year the public park was just a few boxes and rail on a cat track to midway, until the hcsc lane opens back up then its use it till its gone.

should it still be good in two weeks?

Yea it should just saw a stack of rails at top of mile canyon and cats have been packing the snow all day my guess is mile park in a week

The new news. Tomorrow is the last day on Norms and the mile park probably will be set up by Saturday. There is not going to be enough snow for a pipe on the mile this year so maybe some more skate park type feature. Crew is doing all they can for you with the snow they have. IMO they are doing great work.

I'll try to get something up tomorrow! And as for July snow expect to hike rails unless you like to hike and ruin boots to the lift. Or it may already be up on the Palmer lane who knows!

You basically have to walk to the lift now. The mile won't be lapable in a few weeks.

well fuck sounds like hood is really struggling this year. hop they do better next year when i decide to head out

Jah brotha. Stop by the Red house once you get there. Last house before Mt Hood (In government camp next to Chevron) and it's all occupied by newschoolers. Over fifteen of us, we'll smoke you out before you work day shift at Meadows. Just remember to start taking moles now, because we can give you the key homie, you just have to have the will power to turn it.... Mole hard, silent, and fast before you come.

Moles gave me flight, but took away the sky.....

Cant upload pics from phone but, flat rail, corrugated, banked down box, 3 rails made into a U, round rail to down down flat down, pole jam to pill, no jump yet I think they're trying for 2

is the mike park the one set up in the summer on palmer? i am an east coaster and might be going to windells for a session if i can afford it, and the public park is usually pretty fun

The mile park is the park set up off the Mile chair lift. The only parks above the mile, accessed by the palmer chair lift, are the HCSC lap park, HCSC main park, Windells Park and MHSSC (right below HCSC main park).

Public park will undoubtedly be fun but you will likely not be able to lap it from the mile chair as the bottom loading area of the lift will be melted out. You will have to ski down, take off your skis and walk to the chair.

Will the public park have any jumps last week June thr middle July? If so any idea of the size? Also, will you have to hike the jumps/rails or is it viable to ski down and walk to the chair? Thanks!!

You're gonna be hiking in June.

I heard something about the possibility of a public park on palmer.... I don't know where on palmer, but thats what I heard.

Setup on the mile so far is... interesting. If you're planning on coming you should probably come sooner than later unless they make the move up to Palmer.

Have they done this before? This would save everything

The only times I've seen the public park on palmer is years ago after the Burton abominable snow jam slopestyle contest. The left the course up and it was in a lane just lookers left of the palmer chair. The other times is once Windells and HCSC camps are finished the public park moves into the HCSC lane.

I have the next 2 weeks off and will be stopping by hood on my MTB tour through Oregon. I plan on bringing costco amounts of alcohol with me and hooking people up if they show me trails and or let me crash on a couch or their driveway. Im also more than happy to be the DD up to and from the volcano/ bars etc.

Anyone got room... besides the red trap house next to the Chevron?

Flying out in 3 weeks. Starting to think buying a summers pass wont be worth it

It'll definitely still be worth it. You will just have to work a little harder to get what you want out of the summer than in years past when snow levels we're better.

Here's a little update, mile park got sweet, fun flowy surf feel to it, snow is dwindling you already have to hike about 7 towers down, or 200yards depending on how you hop patch to patch, windells lane is very dirty snow and the spot for the lower jump tow is already getting thin. As someone who has worked the summers up here, I dont think it will last past mid July. Hell even the ski racers are bailing end of June

what does dirty snow in the windells lane mean?

Any report on ticket prices now that spring passes are done?

Spring passes are still good until June 7th. Perhaps the best birthday present ever. After the 7th I hear it will be $64 per day or $899 for the whole shebang.

Well, looks like I won't be back this summer.

As of 5/24 you could barely ski down to the bottom of the mile. The way down was just a little snake run and you had to take your skis off part way down.

The Park is pretty fun (There are bunch of rails and then at the bottom you can hit a small jump or a bigger jump). Not much lapping will be going down this summer I bet, mainly hiking.

It's been the same for like 6 or 7 years dude, maybe longer. When i went in 2008 tickets were like $49? i think and a summer pass was the same price, $899. The day pass price has gone up a couple bucks every year and honestly its not that bad IMO its the only place open, they could charge $100 if they wanted but they don't.
