I agree. People don't entirely seem to realize that the majority of drug addicts would quit if they could. They're slaves to their drugs; the life of a drug addict is unpleasant, unhealthy and completely undesirable. Regardless of the drug you can't simply generalize and make an assumption about all addicts. The ones we know about are the ones we see, the bums on the street and homeless but we're far less cognissant of the ones we don't think about, the working class addicts, the ones with jobs and in many cases families. Addiction, be it to heroin meth cocaine or anything is such an overwhelming force that its almost superhuman to overcome it without proper medical and psychological therapy, not to mention the chance of relapse is much greater. Having the sites such as these allows professionals to supervise, care for, and keep track of the addicts. I dont know everything about them, but I can imagine, that its much more then nurses simply allowing them to shoot up in a sterile environment. By supervising the process, the doctors can talk to the addicts, find out more about them and how they became addicted and in many cases extend the offer to help them with their problem. Mind you its probably far more difficult in The U.S. where healthcare is privatized but in Canada and many European nations, the help is there, and safe injection sites like this one are a positive first step in combating drug addiction.
