The talent pool in summit county

dumont has a house outside dillon fact, he lives here full time, not fact. it doesn't matter, i never said there was no east coasters, just making a point that there's tons of people from around the west too, especially in the unknowns...maybe the east coasters just get more coverage.

Nah, he definitely knows that. It's true though, most of sickest skiers come from the east and eventually they all migrate to the west.

^even though that sounds strange, there is some truth in it....there are tons of up and comers as well as pros from the west, you just dont hear about where they are from because us west coast kids dont feel the need to claim all the talent that exists.

now youre just getting picky. dumont lives down the street from me, summit cove, which is in fact in dillon. and so what if he doesnt live here year round? most pple dont, that doesnt mean they arent part of THE TALENT POOL IN SUMMIT COUNTY. and yes, there are plenty of pple here from the west, but more are from the midwest and east, and as far as coverage goes, i think it all has to do with the individuals talents

None of the east coast/midwest people can compete at the top level unless they move out west and train. The vanulars and wests wouldn't amount to anything unless they were able to ski out west for the majority of the season.

and howabout you mr 'boo hoo tourists in breck make me wanna run home crying to mommy and daddy" talk all the shit you want about east coasters but noone talks more bullshit on here than you

breck's is good especially in the early season. But once the season hits the peak you dont notice AS many then as april hits its insane. Everyone comes out for the nice weather and is absolutely killing it. Keystone i would say is overall better just cause they always offer more features then Breck. Cant speak for Copper cause Ive only been there a few times. As far as unknown talent its tough to say because they are unknown haha, but I will say a lot of kids are constantly killing it especially at Breck and Keystone because a lot of them ( NOT ALL OF THEM ) only ride the park-even on pow days. I lived in Breck all season so that is def tru for those of you who think im tryin to bash park skiers.

Thank you, I have finally attained the nexus of shit talking.

And why does everyone from small places in the east rep their local crew/mountain so much? It obviously isn't that great if you moved away from it. It seems pointless to cover yourself with Rochester, NY stickers and stencils.

Spot on.

How would you east coast guys like it if we moved out east and clogged up all your...um...oh, you guys don't have jack shit.

yayyyy we put native colorado stickers on our cars and leave the mountain when the sun goes away!!! dont hate on the east because we come and set a high standard of skiing for you guys to keep up with.. you guys have some really good skiers there like delorme for example, but people are just saying that a majority of the people that live in summit county are from the east and midwest, its true, and there are a lot of uknowns from there that are good. thats it. aspendukes, you absolutely need to stop talking like you know something, your from florida and, you said it yourself, suck at park. east coaster rep where their from because they are proud of coming from shitty mountains and are still able to ride just as hard as anyone else.

They don't come with a high standard of skiing, they come being good on rails and just meh. Then they ski here for a few seasons and become amazing.

^^Both of the above posts are so true.

That is really the difference I see in East Coasters. They grow up with shit. Just absolute shit skiing. And there are those select few who want good skiing so bad, and they are super motivated. Then they come out to Colorado, Utah, wherever and they just dominate because they want it so bad.

What kind of talent pool are we talking about here?????

There are more kinds of skiing talen than just park skiing. Show up at Squaw on any day and see people ski the gnarliest lines that you never thought possible. Every day you see someone charge harder than the day before and it is really eye opening. On a powder day it is amplified by 1000 and if you dont ski as hard as you can, people on the chairlift will let you know about it.

Oh, and you can also cruise through the park and see people throw down if you are into that kind of thing.

Both summit countys in Utah and Colorado are packed with tallent other spots include hood and mammoth..

you fuckin kiddin me? uhhhhh i dont know what you think the east is, but we have fuckin jumps. Hell i might venture to say ive hit bigger or more back country jumps in the east than you have hit or many many westerners. Its not what you think it is. Loon has had big jumps, and 4 or 5 in a row. Better than almost every western mountain ive been too when it comes to flow and lines. Okemo had a jump in the spring that was comparable to the JOI jump....... east coast superpark had a very large jump this year, 83 feet i believe. It all varies from people and its a retarded assumption from what ive seen to assume easterners are "meh" on jumps.

Other solid jump skiers, shea flynn, chris logan, eric olson, all slay jumps and have been total east coast. But with better shit they will only surpass that of what the west has to offer in talent.

The east only holds some back, once you have balls to try shit on ice then its like hittin any other jump. Now, you only hear about easterners gone west on rails because most easterners are wayyy above a good portion of western talent on rails, but as for jumps, they slay just as hard. I mean, Nick martini? he didnt get 4th in the US open for his rails skills, ill tell you that much. Phil casabon 3rd or 2nd place in us open? him neither.

ill help out your point with a picture of loon's park this year

83 feet isn't that big. Breck and Keystone were both really close to that on both of thier big lines. I know brecks third one last year was a little over 80...I'm not saying that there are no good kids in the east on jumps, but alot of them are much better on rails and when they move out west they start to get way better at jumps. And this thread was about midwesterners too, and they don't have any good jumps. And loon's park is good, but none of those jumps look like they were over 40-50.

thats true, but the weather in the east usually wont allow shit to get much bigger, especially the wind. Loon in march tho had the last jump as a 65ft gap or so with a 15ft step down, which was much bigger than anything i hit or saw at keystone when i was there. I mean the US open jumps at copper were baby hits. Its just in general. I mean obviously EC wont be as good as breck, but loon in prime season takes the cake over just about any other west mountain when it comes to flow, size, and stuff. You dont have to ski at breck to be the best jump skier, thats not where all the talent is located because it has the biggest and the best jumps. Its just that theres alot of people there. The west just has great weather for jumping, its usually softer or more snow to have the park up longer.

not this year, haha, so many 2 inch days. though keystone's big jump line this year was 45 to 65 to 70-75 (they kept tweaking it)

i would have to say that people that ski at keystone or breck end up being a lot better than if they had been riding at like copper or winter park just because of how hard everyone else is killing it. also Lethal Descent is from summit county so you know its legit!
