The Stoked Thread

fairly big. i felt the shock wave big time on this one. even an hour later i could still feel the ringing in my teeth.

i was supposed to place that charge halfway down a slope via "bowling" it and had a rope tied to it so it wouldn't go too far. except i learned that "bowling" meant lower underhand arc throw, rather than a true bowl. the latter ended up with the dang thing only 20 feet below me. and i wallowed in the deep snow up next to a tree. was still within 50 feet for sure when it went off.

there's a reason i was on the less dangerous inbounds control runs without much exposure over rocks/cliffs/etc. just high 30s slopes with windloading over a ridge that would merely slide you into a stash of trees where you'd die from the trauma off the forest-washing-machine.

think on the blasters' license test you're supposed to say 100 feet minimum to a charge detonating.

Good summary! Haha you answered all the questions I had from the first post and blast photo, cool story. I didn't know ski patrol enhances there bombs!
Good learning experience for you, I can picture you throwing it, going "Oh Shit" and running for the tree through waist deep powder

Deepest pow of the year today at Whis. Not that that is saying much, but still. Ripped it with Billy, and got to try the Billy Goats back to back with my Wrenegades. It was a good day. Shower and nap time now.

i will fill this entire page with pictures.

Made muffins, it's snowing, I'm skiing tomorrow, sleeping in my own bed tonight, giving an awesome (and very cute) friend a ride to her job on the mountain for the forseeable future, reading a terrific book (The Best American Essays, 2008, Adam Gopnik editor), and wrote a bit this evening.

Everything is right in my world. Stoked.

someone who speaks cantonese call china and thank the chinamen for inventing gunpowder for me. im going to go blow up more snow. avy conditions are unreal in the pnw right now.

Stoked things lined up for a trip to Jay with Harvey this weekend, we haven't skied there together since highschool

Now hopefully it keeps dumping and we'll be good to go!

The skiing today was freakin' sweet! Bridger reported 3" of new overnight, but I was able to get boot-deep on the on3p's up high, so it was probably more like 3" at mid-mountain and 12"+ up high. We went out to "familiarize" ourselves with the new terrain a bit more, and between three of us pretty much conquered all the lines on the north side. Me and the guy I usually ski with got some cheers for a fun couloir you have to straightline a ways into, and then another friend put down one of the biggest lines I have ever seen done in person--it won't be repeated anytime soon!

The only unstoke was the huge number of people skiing the massive, exposed peak south of the boundary despite high avalanche danger. The trigger zone is about 1000 yards wide (but has slid bigger across several peaks) and it always runs top to bottom across the whole mountain. The weak layer is 2-4' down and we had a pretty big wind event last night, so I spent all my time on the lift waiting to see people die over there...luckily it didn't happen, but it probably will if this keeps up.

Lots of snow, lots of friends. Just chillen and lovin it up here on the mountain. Everyone have a great new years and shred up the slopes.

I do believe in karma. This is Jay Peaks forecast for the next 5 days. (from the 1st to the 4th)
I'm looking forward to meeting some chill people and ripping powder for the next few of days.
Honesty I'm pretty stoked right now!

I made $470 tonight. I also had the most kick ass guests, in both seatings. They drank a lot of alcohol, were super outgoing and really enjoyed my company. It was so much fun.

!!!!!!

Oh, and I'm stoned. Yeeeee!

Not to rain on your parade but the forecast isn't working right now and looks like those are the default images.

Though like you I am hoping it snows as I'll be heading down for the weekend too

Last night was definitely the best new year's I have ever had! I went out with a bunch of good friends and got drunk off Sierra Nevada, then went to a nice retaraunt and got kick ass food and a bunch of pitchers of hefeweizen from a local brewery. After that was new year's at the bars, then we went out to a friend's party and had an epic shuffle board tournament and rolled the fattest backwoods blunt I have ever seen. Then things got a bit more interesting as I found out some guy I have never met wants to punch me in the face because I was out with a girl he is apparently somewhat possessive about. This situation could get interesting quickly, but I'm going to forget about it for now and just be stoked with how awesome of a night it was!

I just finished the guitar project I started in July...So stoked!

I don't think anyone in here is into guitars, so I'll just leave it at the fact that I'm incredibly happy I finished this project!!

It snowed over a foot at my house last night, and it's still dumping at over an inch an hour. I can barely find my care, it looks like a one stop pillow line.

STOKED.

well, since you asked....haha

I built the body from scratch...bought a blank of limba (aka korina, gibson used it in explorers). I routed the whole thing , drilled all the holes, sanded it, etc. I shellaced it with blonde shellac, then sprayed nitro lacquer (quite more of a process than that sentence would lead you to believe)...let that cure over the semester, and i came home for christmas break, wet sanded the whole thing up to a pretty fine grit, then polished it with meguiar's mirror glaze. i had already bought all the hardware, so i installed it all, and put in the pickups (custom wound Vintage Vibes), soldered it all together with a 4 way switch mod, and screwed all the plates and the pickguard to the body...bam! done!

it's a tele-style guitar, i bought a 69 Thinline RI neck (vintage frets, U profile) for it. i did most of the stuff vintage style (pickups, bridge plate, knobs), except the black/white/black 9-hole pickguard, which i think makes it look really classy.

i'll post a pic later.

that sounds sicccccck!

i used to build high-end kitchen cabinets, i hear you on the process that's involved in good woodwork...... I've definitely got a lot of respect for building your own axe!

how's she sound?

sounds great, awesome tele tone, plus the 4 way switch gives me the option to have both pickups in parallel, like a humbucker.

i have to do some more setup work though...the intonation is good, but the action is way too low above the ~17th fret

wow you got the pics in there before i could finish posting!

that looks beautiful! haha now I want to go build my own!

So much skiing lately, it won't stop dumping. And new year's eve was awesome
Taking a day off today to rest but skiing again saturday sunday before heading back to school for monday. This break went by really fast.
Oh yea, and my friend that has a green card is hooking me up with and ounce of homegrown dank for $200, really stoked

stoke, stoke is me being able to sit down and use my computer for the first time in..... a week and a half maybe? something like that.

working at a ski hill during hell week sucks so bad, but now its over and thank god.

now i'm going to sleep, but yeah, stoke is abundant and i might be living in MT Hood for part of next summer. booyakashaaaaaa

I dont think Canada deserved to win the hockey game tonight but wow...how can we not be stoked watching players like Eberle and Esposito run a clinic like they did...sooo stoked on them!

Just made a drink that took me from sober to drunk pretty fast. Empty stomach since I am waiting for dinner still, so not trashed, but DAMN did it hit me fast. Tastes pretty good too.

4 shots of Jim Beam

1 shot of Triple Sec

1 shot of Powder Sugar

1/2 shot of Bitters

Shake with ice and enjoy.

I think I may have accidently landed myself in a relationship....oops! She's pretty cool though, so I'm going to try to keep myself from immediately jumping ship like I did last time.

STOKED on life in general. I'm healthy, I've got good friends, and I'm writing about skiing. No worries.

(shaking my head up and down with conviction)

I just made my reservations for dew tour! My buddy Matt and I are staying at the Vintage Inn Friday and Saturday night. We'll be up Friday early afternoon shreeedddding and waiting for Slope finals. Any other PHers gonna be in attendance?
