The Stoked Thread

hahaha i got summoned for jury duty!! oh god this is going to be goooood. give them the chair i say!

There is a pretty large calm river right behind our shop.(Schuylkill river) It's still swollen from rain so I figured I'd goof around some. Pretty fun, and I found three free basketballs and tons and tons of recycling. Seriously though this one time we were out during floods I found a stool carved out of wood and shaped like an elephant, it was the best river find yet and I still have it at home.

I'm probably the worst kayaker on the face of the planet. I still remember high school PE when I got stuck upside down in the middle of the pool and nobody helped....good times! I think I'll stick to fly fishing when I'm in the water now.

yeah i just need someone to show me the ropes..mainly the whole flipping yourself over deal. ive been on class 3s and 4s before....on an inner tube! talk about a rush

Not that hard to learn. I was rolling in 2 sessions and we had a bunch of other new people start this year as well (with varied results) but as long as you have the drive to keep trying you'll get it and love it. Guess it helps we have some of the best high fun/low consequence rivers in NA right in our back yard here

looks like ill have to make more room in my gear room to fit a kayak or two in there! sweet more gear!

Best of both worlds, I fish from my kayak, I had a catfish pull me back and forth across the creek last year.

I still can't roll my boat, I need to install some foam for a tighter fit around my hips for sure. I think I'm just gonna buy a smaller boat for fast water this year. It would be nice to be able to roll the big boat though if I ever tip over out in the ocean, really don't wanna wet exit out there.

Stoked.

Val (my fiancee) had a phone interview last night for a special education teaching position at a elementary school in Rutland. She felt it went well, and they told her they needed to make some decisions and would call her back to possibly schedule an in-person interview Monday.

Well, today she found out they called one of her references to ask some follow-up questions.

So many positives going on with this.

-Vermont has a teacher shortage in Special Educators, which Val graduates with a b.s. degree in Elementary Education/Special Education

-There are 6 positions open within the District for Special Educators

-They called her references

So hopefully, we will be in Rutland on Monday. Bummed it won't be for skiing, but aye, way stoked either way.

And my Crowbars will be delivered tomorrow!

Follow-up..

Rutland City Schools are STOKED on her, and she has an in-person meeting on Monday, where she will meet a group of people, then the principle, and then the superintendant.

Looks really good.

Plus, I'll be coming along, and skiing Killington Monday.

Anyone care to join me?!?!?

You've got it made!

I'm leaving for Jackson to ski Teton National Park in t minus one hour.

I just got approved for a New Zealand Work Visa!!!! So fucking stoked!

Next winter I will get about 4 and a half or 5 months off from firefighting. I'm going to be spending some time in Fiji and then living on the South Island of New Zealand. I'll also be spending some time in Australia, Thailand and possibly Nepal.

My parents have a partial ownership of a condo in Kawaii. They are able to trade it out time there for any 4 seasons resort/marriot/some others in the world. For college graduation they are going to give me a week or two on in either Thailand, Bali, or the Seychelles for when I'm traveling next spring. I'll go from backpacking/being a bum to staying in a 4 or 5 star resort for a little while. STOKED!!!!

My life over the next year-

Graduate from CU May 9th

Move to Utah May 11th

Start firefighting May 12th

Work as a firefighter till about the end of November

Go to Fiji for 7-10 days.

Move to New Zealand for 3 and a half months

Australia for a little while

Thailand for a little while

Nepal for a little while

Back to firefighting.

Crazy to think that I won't be skiing very much next year, but I'll definitely get my share of climbing/montaineering in in New Zealand and possibly Nepal.

had a dope couple days shredding with milfy, but unfortunately for her, she offered me an opinion and had to be shown the stairs

Haha, nice Ajay.

Today was... different. By all standards, I didnt do anything. But I woke up and felt really... different. I have no way of describing it at all. Somethings changed, and I just know that the person I was yesterday no longer exists, and my outlook on life is going to be a lot different from now on. It feels like breaking through a veil that you never knew was covering your eyes.

Also, somewhat in relation to this, I stopped wearing my watch. Time dictates too much of the way in which I live. I have over a week to go until spring break, so I'm going to attempt to transition myself away from technology and the way I'm used to living until then, at which point I'll get in a car and wander the roads with my friends.

I have no idea if its existential or not. It kinda feels like suddenly being in tune, when for as long as you can remember you felt 'wrong' but never knew why. Weird stuff, and I know I sound crazy, but if you've had something like this happen, you'd understand. Consciousness feels almost reset.

And a motorcycle would be sweet, but I'd rather have a station wagon to pack camping gear and friends I'd make on the way. As for romanticism, I hope to god there are other travelers out there who have no direction.

Hey rowen I had the same kinda awakening at the start of school this year. Hard to explain how it worked/happened but you just know shits different and you see the world different.

I fucking love it.

I didnt feel like starting a thread on this, but I kinda have been getting the feeling over the last few months that Kristi Leskinen is kinda a whiney bitch. NS admin has been trying to silence most of the critics as of late, but some of it is kinda leaking out... remember the North American Open article that got changed? I kinda feel that its a underground understanding thats talked about in closed circles, just curious if others have picked up on it.

Kristi sucks at skiing. She skis the park here in Mammoth a lot. Lot's of straight airs. Lot's of small jumps. Lot's of flailing. Lot's of small rails. She pretty much cruises around and does nothing.

Sarah Burke on the other hand...... RIPS.

Didn't see the NAO Article. What did it say?

And yeah, she does suck. Literally. Or at least according to two different pro skiers I have talked to. Both said the rumor was she blew her way into a sponsorship. Don't know if that is true, but wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I've always kinda thought she was a hack...she used to be ok at rails but girl skiers have moved on and shes still in the early 2000's i think.

yeah i agree with you on that aspect of it. theres a bunch of girls on here that are much better than her in my opinion. but those girls dont get the recognition that kristi does. maybe they need to suck some dick or something. who the hell knows

starting to get stoked on my trip!

partly because i know i have a blunt waiting for me at home hahaha

just got home from 2 nights at the fox hotel in banff. it's brand new this season, soooo nice. stayed in the honeymoon suite hahah. jacuzzi in the middle of the room, mountain views. bluebird at sunshine yesterday. got there at 11 and parked in the 2nd row. it was empty. and now it's the weekend again!

oh and I'm off to cali on tuesday. gonna ski big bear, go to disneyland, and go to san diego. can't wait!!!

Leaving for Vermont in 36 hours!

Sure, it's one day of skiing, but so much more in the way of life planning.

We also want to check out a apartment in Rutland that caught our eye.

2 bedroom upstairs, spacious, newly renovated, washer/dryer and dishwasher, and a garage (which is actually huge with me having skis, and mountain bike, and all), and hardwood floors (which I love).

$850 which includes heat, trash and plowing.

Pretty standard price for Rutland it seems for a good sized 2 bedroom place.

Mines $550, I know I'm getting a fucking deal too.

So today was warm, heavy and wet, but still good fun. Hiked my ass all the way back to that spot I was raving about, had some good fast turns, and then decided to turn it up a notch and try this 20'. Woulda been sweet, except I totally misjudged how wet the snow was and tomohawked 5 or 6 times sans skis. Oh, and a 12 year old kid riding the park chair yelled down to me to 'use some fuckin poles' when i was doing some park laps. Fucking immature youths putting our sport to shame.

my rent is 400 month including heat and hydro.

really though...im just stoked right now on some good company tonight.
