The Stoked Thread

Nice.

My brother comes home from Cali tomorrow. I haven't seen him in a year, so it should be nice. We're not super close, but we get along pretty well.

Congrats! I'll be spending a lot of my time at red this winter so I'm excited about that

Red bull party tonight, jeff's back in town, steph's in town tomorrow...oh ya and *claim* im now ns famous with my first news article. yippy

can you handle really really small towns? with pretty much nothing to do but ski? and a lotttt of hicks and hippies to hang out with? If not, pick Kelowna. Also kelowna is sick in the summer, right on the sweetest lake ever with awesome beaches. Plus it's not too far to go to vancouver for some city time.

^^^ I can handle it. The opportunities for something more long term are great for a small town with a huge destination resort being built.

Not to offend anyone here, but planning a long term goal around the ski industry is kinda a bad idea...

Stoked to be approved for renting a single two bedroom cottage about 5 mins. down the road from my local resort. Stoked about having a wood stove for the upcoming winter months and not having to pay gas heat bills anymore. Also the landlord has a house on the property but lives in philly and only comes out about 1 week out of the month.

Aaaaaaannnnnnd I get a free outside cat when I move in cause he already lives there, this thing almost smothered me with affection as soon as I got out of my truck to check the place out.

Aaaaaaaaannnnnd it's up in the hills outside of town in an area that always gets more snow whenever we get a storm. Also there are fields forever across the street so the lady and I can stay in shape by cross country skiing if we get some white stuff.

I'm slightly stoked.

Righteous. nothing better than wood stoves. The heat they create is unparalleled, and the atmosphere they give is incredible as well. Sucks going outside to grab wood, but it's worth it.

Outdoor cats dominate. They are independant yet still affectionate. They don't rely on you, but they still appreciate the company.

I should go XC skiing. I haven't gone since I picked up downhill when i was in the 3rd grade. I started XC when I was 2, and my parents are avid XC skiers, but have never downhilled.

Ya I got into about 7 years ago with a buddy of mine who's family does it a lot and has a bunch of pairs. Then my stepdad gave me his old pair for free and I bought boots so I'm set. I got the gf a pair last winter after we tried it and she liked it at winter park. Now I just need some snow.

They were going for $20 on SAC. with shipping total of $50 for the 2.

Steal me some stuff from the office tomorrow and I am sure we can work something out. Its brand new

wow super great deal!

i bought a black diamond probe/shovel package a couple of years ago for about $70 and ended up selling it last year for $45 on here. wish i had kept it

Bridger's getting their classic storm system right now; 1" of new snow in town, 2-3" in the southern mountains, 20" at Bridger and counting. Too bad I have to spend all of saturday learning about snow pits instead of skiing, but come sunday it is ON.

Yeah, this will be really nice for the class too. I was trying to imagine what it would be like without any new snow by saturday: "Here we have 6" of faceted snow, here's 2" of ice, and this bottom layer, well......that's what we like to call frozen dirt." With how the weather's been lately it should bond really well too, which means I get to go ski stupid lines in a couple days.

stoked that mt. snow is getting snow! straight through the weekend with "significant" accumulations sunday night. mmm maybe have to call in sick on monday cough cough

Wooo!

I wish I had 2+ feet of snow.

It's snowing sideways here. literally. 30+MPH sustained wind speeds with gusts nearing 60MPH.

A major lake-effect snow event is likely to develop early next week across the Great Lakes. Strong winds and bitterly cold air will follow a widespread winter storm into the Midwest and Northeast. The winds crossing the fetch of warm water in the Great Lakes will create bands of heavy lake-effect snow in the snow belt regions to the lee of the lakes. The snow will on Sunday and Monday will spread from the northern Great Lakes to lakes Erie and Ontario.

The lake-effect snow will continue through at least Tuesday, with many areas likely to receive several feet before the event ends. The strong winds will create areas of blowing and drifting snow that will reduce visibility and create dangerous driving conditions.

Might as well jinx it...

"A storm will depart into Canada, setting up perfect conditions for a big lake-effect snowfall event. From the western Lakes to upstate New York and even across western Pennsylvania, frigid winds crossing the lakes will be enough to provide very heavy snowfall. Many places could end up having knee-deep snow, or even more."

I will try to not get overly excited because as of the other night we were supposed to get a foot of snow last night and all of today, and it turned into a few inches and it stopped snowing early last night...

You really do rely on forecasts a little too much, then again I am crossing my fingers it hits jay.

I love the captions on the pics, look like someone from the Fox New Headline department got hired there
