The Stoked Thread

i've been studying for the mcat for months now, and i write it tomorrow, so as soon as i am done i am as free as a bird

I'm stoked on going to my skishop tomorrow, check out my first ever new ski, the seth's at 189. Time to step it up a bit, will be my first fatter ski. Getting some S916's or STH16's to go with it (someone make up my mind for this! they're both priced +- the same but the later one isn't full metal but lighter, but just doesn't look/sound as strong although I won't need a full metal binding but still, weight isn't to much of a problem) and probably end up buying another Peak outfit this year, you should check their Black Light collection, the Scuba Blue looks sweet. I already know I'm not going to be able to control myself tomorrow... lucky my credit card isn't valid anymore haha

i just had the most satisfying meal. nachos, with chili, and onions. plus red stripe to go along with it.

I could go for some mexican food...maybe i'll make taco's or fajitas tonight

i stoked because im getting another puppy in 2 months. a rottweiler. we have been planning this and thinking about it for over a year now, trying to decide on which breed we wanted.

im also stoked because i heard of this apparently awesome mexican restaurant (new) near where i live. i am going on sunday.

and im stoked because in just 8 short months we are buying a house. awesome.

dude i had the same exact thing yesterday too..just w/o the onions. even red stripe. ahh it was soooo good.....until this morning that is

I'm stoked for some actual training tonight. My boss has been slacking in the dept, and I said something to her the other day. So, yay!

Im stoked that I get the opportunity to hand two 55 yr olds their fuckin ass today. Stupid bishes

i work in an office where people that are older than my parents feel the need to create drama and make everyone elses lives miserable. so i will inturn make their day miserable. plus im pissed about missing IF3 so anyone that crosses my path today will feel the wrath of lesley! muhahaha

stoked on my new skis!!! chillen in the lobby of the hotel every kept looking at them saying...woah...that are those!

Stoked that I officially, undeniably now have a dedicated internet connection in my new apartment! No more pirate wireless for me! :) :) :)

Fixed my kitchen, it looks decent now. I'm also just completely stoked on my setup... complete nirvana would be EP Pro's and some Il Moro's, but what I'm running now is beyond dreamy. Uhg, all I need is some snow.

I'm green with envy... actually, I'm kinda jittery from the coffee from the Neurosurgery residents office, that stuffs strong...

ice rink baby..ice rink! it was killer i must admit. the bruises though, ahh not so much. im having some definite mental issues though with the boxes not sure why

^sweeeet...we had a nice little sesh behind an arena here too about two weeks ago!

my boyfriend is in the middle of building the sweetest drop in that will fit in his car and can go anywhere anytime, along with the pvc flat bar rail that is in pieces and already does fit in his car..im really excited! i hope i learn lots because sometimes i find the park so intimidating because im so new at all of this.

dude me too. i can move on down it no worries but trying to switch up for some reason i just have a huge mental block. yesterday i was throwing shit cause i was sooooo frustrated!

i hope you didnt hit anyone in the head...or rather..i hope you did for comic value but they were not hurt.

mental blocks are the worst, they are very frustrating. do you try to 'visualize' before you hit it? perhaps that would help? it helps me.

got a pair of old skis here, which I use to pull him around in the backyard, he loves it haha

That is an extremely sick setup. Those STH16s look awesome. My buddy is getting them to put on his scratch steezes (or ravens) so I'm stoked to ride them. I'd get a pair myself if I didn't have a bunch of 916s sitting around, those STHs are so light comparatively its amazing.

Currently I am stoked for the TGR premiere this friday. Woo!

I'm stoked on everything.

Life is going way good right now. Spent some time last night, about 45 mintues, getting caught up with someone who helped make me who I am now, that I hadn't talked to in quite some time. It was good to talk to her again. Ask for more details if you wish, but I don't wish to bore anyone with that unless they want it. Haha.

Despite it being 85 degrees here today and feeling like mid-July for the past week, it looks like fall, and all the leaves are changing. I've got my ski-pass, wil be ordering some new skis, Bacons for some way fun freeride skis, and getting a decent hookup on them.

Skiing is less than 2 months away, which is awesome in itself. I'm in the best physical shape of my life right now and am confident my skiing will benefit greatly from losing 30lbs this summer thru biking alone.

And the whole prospect of moving next summer and getting married not far thereafter is becoming quite real and very exciting. It's a whirlwind and it's been straightup awesome.

Stoked to be walking again without any limp and doing one legged leg extensions at the gym with 20 pounds now. Stoked that I was able to run about 20 feet on Sunday with my son, even though I had to ice the joint for 2 days afterwards. I see light at the end of the tunnel with this freakin ordeal.

Also stoked about my boy and having good friends to share my time with :)

What do you you visualize? I think my problem is that I sometimes can't help buyt visualize falling off and smashing my face (maybe because I've done that so many times?)

its all mental. you just need to feel it really and make sure you look towards the end of the rail..itll help a bit.

on another note, I TURNED LEFT THE OTHER DAY! IM NO LONGER AN AMBITURNER!! YAYYYYY

LOL

Biggest thing with rails is confidence. Which is why I have isues with rails.

https://www.newschoolers.com/web/content/videos/id/146581/

That was one of the first times I ever tried to do a rail. It didn't end too well as you can tell. I found the video the other day when cleaning. I thought it was lost forever.

And I've stayed away from rails up until last season when got my game on the boxes and want to find a perfectly setup rail to move up to.

Oh that video hurt to watch. Now I need to get that mental imagine out of my mind. My rail experiences so far have been leaning too far forward and sliding off - usually end with me bashing a knee - or being on my back edges and having my feet go out from under me, landing on my ass or hip (and the ladies love those blueish bruises!) Not sure why I have so much trouble feeling the flats of my skis and staying balanced. In concept it shouldn't be this hard. I need practice. And a padded suit, apparently. Doing it at the park can be so intimidating, but the kids watching me usually give me props when they realize I am older than their Dads and at least have the balls to try and always get up laughing at myself.

Doing it in the park is very intimidating. It kills my progression for sure.

As for the weight issue, on boxes I used to have the same problem.

What solved it for me is focusing on the end of the rail, and physically forcing my leading arm against my leading ass-cheek.

This helped me with my balance and also helped me come out forward easily, and also kills it in the style department.

Committment though is key for not having your feet slide out downhill. If you're timid, you tend to lean.

A technique to practice your stance is turn sideways while going down the hill, like you would if you were making a quick stop, but instead of edging, lay your skis off edge and just slide sdeways. It's the same concept on the rail/box.

And re-reading that, I jsut realized what I said is so poorly put.

I hope it has some value still.

Good tips. I definitely know to focus on the end of the box/rail and that seems to get me about halfway across before I bite it.

Definitely looking forward to snow so I can try this shit and get better! Then I have to teach it to my 7 year old (or maybe he will nail it before I do!)

Oh, and I'll let you in on a secret. That nutted video didn't hurt all that bad. I took the impact mostly on my inner thighs due to it being a wide rail.

I'm fairly embarrased that it affected me mentally the way it did to be honest.

Lose the mental battle, and you lose the war.

And the feeling of accomplishment when you learn something new skiing, is far beyond any other feeling I've ever had.

So true. When I came back from Jay Peak still alive, I had never felt so accomplished. That may sound sad, but Jay rocked me hard.

Agreed, the past two weeks have included both for me.

Great dinner with multiple microbrews at dogfish head brewery last weekend.

Friends bachelor party including a two hour stop at local strip club two weekends ago. Kinda sad to admit it was my first time at a "gentlemens club" even though I'm 26.
