The Seth Morrison Level

what would an advanced skier who can ski anything well and has balls have to do to be on the level as seth? and not just the ability , the media exsposure, the movie segs, the sponsers, the legend. just a little curious

well seth isn't a park skier so I wouldn't go as far as saying he can do anything godlike. But those cliffs... damn...

man youd have to start off entering big mountian comps like seth but man he is on a whole nother level ... not only is he anutterly amazing skier but he is invincible... the man has survived more injuries than anyone ... including a heli crash at 13,000 feet

ya thats freaking extreme. He not only is godlike at skiing but hes made of steel. They have a list of his injuries on the K2 website, its crazy how many he has obtained over the years.

Enter backcountry comps. Get exposures with huge shots, a lot of mags like backcountry shots, and theres more mags to get in if your backcountry oriented. Send a sponsor video to a company that really appreciates backcountry ripping and seems to have a bit of a lack of good backcountry skiers. Work your way into the ski industry and throw down.

here are my injuries

1.broken thumb

2. broken middle finger

3.shattered humerus

4. several concusssions

5. broken ankle

5. broken nose

6. broken big toe

im only 17 though. so i have years of getting fucked up ahead

dude seth's injurys are ten times worse plus he is a pain resistant tank.... watch his crash on helmet cam in the extras of either war or up1.2 he snaps the bone above his elbow (ulna) and he just site there for like 5 minutes then is like fuck

Have you seen him ski park? I would venture to say he could keep up with over 90% of the clowns whom call themselves "park" skiers. Sadly enough, these "park" skiers can't buy a real turn outside the "park" with a handful of $100's. And that is where Seth really sets himself apart, making real turns.

i think the other thing that makes seth famous is the fact that he was a pioneer. he was one of the first guys to do huge hucks off cliffs. this was like ~10 years ago, maybe more. if u watch the seth morrison chronicles, he was one of the first guys to do 3s and grabs and shit

pick up seth chronicals (if you haven't seen it yet) to find out more about what got seth where he is and what makes him tick. not the greatest flick ever, but cool none the less. it has been a long road for him. he has been around for a loooong time and been through a lot.

be the most fucking bad ass guy on skis, and have nuts the size of basketballs, to my understanding there will never be an other seth morrison.

if you want to achieve the legend status Seth has, you might want to start throwing shit like Dana Flahr, only link it into big AK lines. the thing that set Seth apart from everyone else- even guys like Flahr who are going as big off cliffs and throwing more technical tricks in the process- is that he showed everyone that it could be done. he was the first one to really go out there and charge huge lines with cliffs in them and throw a trick off the cliffs. he's also worked harder than most of us can imagine so he can stay current and keep us all interested. furthermore, he's something of an enigma. everyone knows his name, has seen him ski, has tons of respect for him, but he tends to keep to himself and his friends. he doesn't talk a ton of huge shit, he just goes out and throws down as hard as he can every time he skis. i know a few guys who have skied with him and they said he claimed to be taking it easy that day- going about 50%- and they could barely keep up with him. he has incredible stamina and strength, bigger balls than all of NS combined, and a he's on a mission and can't be stopped.

i'm not doubting on anyone, but good luck ever getting there.

i would argue that Sage is heading in the right direction to become something close to what Seth is right now. Pollard, too. those two are doing some very unique shit.

I think today to reach the level of seth is almost impossible. Seth is Seth because he was the first. And Skeetmasta if you have the seth morrison chronicles then why are you asking what it takes on newschoolers. Everything you need to know is in that movie.

I hope you mean an expert skier. When you watch people like Kreitler JT Holmes, Shane McConkey, the Gaffneys, on a regular basis it will absolutely blow your mind. I have never seen Seth in person, only the squaw guys, but in person their skills are truly humbling. I do not know where you live, but you need to get noticed, and that means entering big mountain contests and living at Jackson, Squaw, or a place like that. At a mountain like this you will see numerous people who are not famous, but will blow your mind with their skills. The scary thing is that as good as these guys are, Seth is on a completely different level. I would suggest entering those big mountain comps and seeing how well you do. If you can distinguish yourself in that crowd(which takes an INSANE level of skill) than you may get noticed. You are trying to get to the level of essentially being the best skier in the world. Also, Seth has a racing background, as do most of those guys. People like Moseley, JP, and CR had mogul backgrounds. Most of the guys who become big mountain dominators start out in these disciplines, or grow up at a place like Jackson or Squaw. CR Johnson was skiing technical lines at squaw like middle knuckle fingers and lines in the chimney when he was 15. JT Holmes first got noticed in his mid-teens ripping fingers lines when it was raining. The level of skill it requires to do these things is MILES above what it takes to ski your typical black daimond mogul run at a little resort. The best thing to do is work as hard as you can, ski the steepest terrain you can find, ski it nonstop, and do it over and over.

as Dan4060 said, he's on a totally different level from all the guys you see in places like Jackson and Squaw who just kill it.

from what i understand, Seth skis with guys who ski like Flahr and THEY think he's crazy. that says something when people who are throwing misty 7s off cliffs think someone else is crazy. the man has natural ability and a drive that may never be matched.

i can't tell if you are trying to rip me or just stating that you already have the film - i hope you're chillin cause we're all just trying to answer your question. i just said it wasn't the greatest film ever (his part in focused tops it for me)- i didn't say it wasn't a great film. i own the film and i like the film. it was way cool to see the film and get a better understanding of who he is and where he came from. hope we're cool.

entering big mnt comps is how you get known or it was. but the problem is that the landings are hard and the conditions are never good.

He isnt crazy like jamie pierre crazy, every move he does on an ak line is calculated and he knows exactly what he wants to do, an example of when he wasnt thinking was in bella coola for year book when he didnt think of where his sluff would be coming after he droped that cliff, he said himself that he let people push him and made him do somthing that he wasnt fully prepared to do.

Seths on a whole nother level, he has the skill to be calculated while still putting together mind blowing hucks. I don't think he's as good of a skier as say Nobis or Hugo as far as charging goes but he knows the mountain and knows how to make it look beatiful. To be on Seths level you have to go out there and learn mountains, learn where your slough can take you and be able to read terrain before dropping into a line to know where it is safe to drop 80+ers. Just work your way up, Learn how to flip in the park, then start doing it off random shit on the mountain, then start tossing them off cliffs. 8 years later if you can still walk you might be there.

Find a mountain no one else has ever skied before, and ski it. Find a cliff most won't hit, and backflip it. Enter in many big mountain comps, and win them. Also get well known and on the cover of oh let's say... about 5 or 6 ski magazines and have a contest where if the person wins they get to ski with you. Now you should be closer to on a level that Seth is at.

I would suggest getting off the computer and out onto the mountain, then to the gym, then on to the bike, then back on the mountain. Repeat.

Look at the sickest lines and make two turns instead of twenty.

If you have to ask how to get there, i doubt you will ever reach that level.

and if anything gets in your way turn!

and im gonna have to say your probably one of those guys who can ski park but when on the rest of the mountain ski with poles tucked straight up in the air, going pizza straight down the mountain if you actually think seth cant keep up with the park dudes

I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. It's not me we're talking about.

Seths steeze in the park is not well matched with modern park riders. Sure, he dude throws some sick dinner rolls and other kinds of flips/spins, but it's not steeze. And you may say "why would he force his style, he looks awesome anyway!". Well, then it's not new school. That's just how it is.

And I was not trying to act like a little east coast all-in-my-jibbing-bubble-kid, I was being objective and completely neutral. sorry if you got that perseption

i think that there will never be any one that can reach the leval he has. just seening his veido parts they just are soo crazzy taht i dont think will have 1 the balls to do some of the stuff that he dose like masave backflips of 50 foot clifs and the medical bikk he has had to pay is through the roof. that guy is epick

someone will. Seth seems to be getting over the hill as far as pushing the boundries further goes...someone will come along, match it and then destroy it. Guys like ryan oakden are tossing backies off of 60 footers, dana flahr is tossing misty 7s off of 40, and eric hjorleifson is the man with the vision. I overheard oakden talking about what that kid has been trying this year...it'll blow you away in next years vids.

i dont think to the extent over all that he can be topped but in tricks yes it will happen but people will remerber him as the one that startded it all

some guy at a teton gravity shoot hit a 250ft cliff i think thats more impressive than a backflip off a 60 footer but seth is still a fuckin ski god

ya but how dose that require andy skill all u do is jump and wait 6 seconds till u slam into the ground witch any one can do

i dont thin that really anyone could match seth in all the aspects u listed, he is an incredible skier to begin with, hes amazing. it took him a really long time to become known well, and the time in skiing when he began to gain popularity and recognition was crucial, he was the main young promising skier that showed up and threw down huge, now theres tons of people who are awesome and ski big mtns, but there not like seth and never will be because its just impossible, seth is a ski god and ski god state cannot be achieved by almost any other skiers.
