The olympics SUCK

the xgames don't own events like big air, slope style, halfpipe etc. So why are you saying that they are going to take events from xgames. you can't take an event it's just not possible. the olympics(winter) only come every four years so just shut the fuck up, watch them and don't complain.

ok ok haha i give up, whatever.

i fucking love the olympics and i am excited that freestyle skiers will soon get a chance to compete in them.

ya wtf is wrong with you, it'd be good for the sport if the olympics "took" superpipe, big-air and slope. you have no valid argument here. sure some events are not that exciting, but if they are not dont watch them. but they are exciting for the athletes and people who do that sport and also kids who dream of being in the olympics. the olympics is an amazing thing and it brings the world together and is the biggest stage for almost every winter sport. dont try to diss it cuz you dont like watching some of the events, because the purpose of the olympics is not to be televised and watched, it is meant to create a worldwide stage for world class athletes and to bring the world together. so stfu.

I just wanna add something: There is actually a world outside of north america. Sports like biathlon, ski jumping, xc skiing, alpine skiing are pretty damn big here in europe...

According to this threads rational, the summer olympics should start adding dance crew competitions, slam dunk contests, skateboarding, and anything else marketed to youth to boost ratings in the future.

Olympic spirt fail?
The Olympic values are about excellence, sportsmanship and tradition, not being cool. Therefore, there is no way they are ever going to swap luge for slopestyle based on the opinions of a 12 year old.

personally i think that there will be a point that park skiers wont just be looked at as punks, but also as athletes. And i am completely aware of the olympic tradition that include multiple country based judging controversies in the last 3 olympics.

Surely this cant be true, its not even in the x games any more is it??

I see "isteezeblackomb"s point, if theres no youth interest in a sport, then it cant continue, but i think there is sufficient interest in many of the olympics sports (i dont know about moguls and aerials, as theyre not really a big thing over here in europe)...

I also dont think halfpipe should be in the olympics. I'm all for promoting our sport, but the way the olympics works is through strict judging, on specific techniques, we dont want that in skiing, so why do we want skiing in the olympics?? Isnt x games and dew tour etc good enough?

Also nobody should be talking the olympics up as this "perfect" little fragment of the world all wrapped up inside winter sports. Both the summer and Winter olympics have been plauged with, bias and judging controversies throughout the recent years.

thats true!!, c'mon dont bullshit me, you know that at least half of what im tryin to say makes sense.
but fine... be a dick if that makes you happier.

do you even think before you type?

just because the Olympics dont appeal to YOU, doesnt mean the rest of the world or even the younger generation doesnt enjoy it.

Seriously, Olympic hockey is one of the most entertaining things to watch next to world juniors.

I'm sure that the figure skaters, curlers, hockey players, aerialists, etc. and their fans outnumber us "freeskiers"

Sorry if Tom Wallisch isn't in the olympics.
but seriously your 13 no one expects curling or any of those sports to appeal to you. It's not even about the sports that appeal people to watching the olympics it's cheering on your country and having national pride in wanting to win medals. Sorry if you haven't learnt about nationalisme yet in school

its a shame that events like slopestyle, big air and superpipe skiing aren't in the olympics, but the olympics are fucking bomb. watching moguls is dope, and cheering for bode miller's half-drunk ass is always a good time. don't hate on the olympics, especially when canada killed it with the opening ceremony.

if any of you actually lived here and maybe if this kid stated his case a bit better you would see where he's coming from. there are police doing fuckall sitting at every intersection, theres vanoc fags trying to boss all the locals around. theres no parking which is rediculous (i got towd last night). walking to work now takes easily 3 times as long to get through the vill, every bar is charging up the ass , sometime for a show but often for no reason at all. this town is way too small for an influx of this many people, this shit is hectic. but if your not here, all you see is the ctv cnn nbc and much music cameras filming all the young hot girls and the events. its way different than what you see on the idiot box.

Now, what you're saying actually makes sense. I can believe whistler is a little too crowded right now. But this kid didn't even come close to stating his case, that is if he's trying to complain about everything being made more difficult (including skiing) for the locals..

Wow you are officially stupid. Make sure you have the facts straight before calling someone wrong. Can anyone tell me when snowboard pipe start..........................oh thats right 1998 Nagano but you wouldn't remember that to young.

Also when it comes to adding new sports the only ONE that is trying to be added in the future is ski pipe, you will never see ski/board slopestyle in the Olympics.

When it comes to Whis man they did to kick you out, I've been in Whis for a number of season and you are now just talking shit. WOW the buses are busy with tourist pretty much the same as any other busy time during the season.

I like how you can't drink water out of a Monster can at the bottom of your halfpipe run at the Olympics. So there's at least one reason that the Olympics are cool.

Better call the whaaambulance. It's a once in a lifetime experience and it's awesome being in Whistler right now.

OP, I think you MAY have some valid point there, but choose your thread title wisely next time.
If you only look at the sport aspect of it the Olympics may bore you; obviously if you're sitting in front of the T.V. its just the same as any other competition and may even be a bit boring because you don't know the sport. But get out there and go watch it in a crowd with big screens and everything changes, national pride is something a bit different than just liking the sport or the athlete competing.
I just came back from Deadau5 yesterday, and it was nuts. Everyone (like 9,000+) waited atleast 4 hours, and some of us were waiting there since noon. It was basically an under 30 crowd, with every kind of person you can imagine; guidos straight out of Jersey Shore, Goths, emos, LB's, LG's, etc. but when skeleton came up on the big screens, everyone was super into it and were screaming their heads off for Canada. It went fucking crazy when we won gold. It's really awesome to see totally random people come together to celebrate and cheer on Canada.
So I guess what I'm trying to get at here is get off your couch and go enjoy the Olympic atmosphere. Sure it may not have been the best Olympics sport wise seeing we have horrible weather, but it is by far the biggest and coolest party Vancouver/Whistler has had.

so youre saying that people in europe ski across horizontal trails and shoot targets every few miles? i find it hard to believe that biathlon is big anywhere
