okay so, there are only like 5 olympic events actually worth watching... and they are just going to start stealing all of the X-games events becuase the olympic comittee now realizes that they dont have a young fan base anymore.
 
You realize the sole task of the olympic committee has nothing to do with catering to little park rats, right? The freestyle ski community is microscopic compared to the general olympic fanbase.

my opinion definetly counts, because guess what?... in 4-8 years i am going to be the one who chooses whether or not the olympics are worth watching or attending.
 
i am well aware.. but the ratings this year for the olympics have been lower than ever and a lot of that is becuase people dont want to spend 3 hours watching curling or XC skiing

are you just going to be like " hey i'm 19 now and everyone should stop watching the Olympics around the world because it's not as cool as the x games"

no, im saying that the future of the X-games/dew tour/ freestyle skiing in general looks a lot more hopeful among young people than XC skiing and curling. thats why the olympics are starting to add/take events from the X-games

stupidest thing iv read the entire week.
hes partially right, in about 10 years the majority of viewers will be our generation and most of us are raised in an environment (video games, ipods, easy access to free movies music tv shows, ipods, cellphones) in which we probably wont appreciate most of the current Olympic sports.
 
how is that the stupidist thing that youve read all week!?... the amount of excitment and passion that surrounds growing sports such as pipe/slopestlye skiing events, are fueled by the young generation. and quite honestly there has not been any "growth" of interest around most olympic sports in a long time.
 
im 16 and youre just proving that our generation is almost fucking stupid as most adults say, just because you cant respect any sports that dont involve 3xl tall tees doesnt mean no one else wants to watch them

Im a whistler local and yes vanoc has made some stupid decisions like closing the day parking lots although they are all completely empty but so far im enjoying the Olympics quite a bit its fun to watch!
 
No, its not. And even if it was, does that mean that other sports communities don't have the same passion as newschool skiing...NO. Unless you actively participate in any of the other olympic sports besides skiing or snowboarding, and understand how much hard work and passion is put into these sports by the athletes and their families, and the fans, you don't have any grounds to make that statement. I suggest getting out of your ski world bubble and make other friends that have other interests besides skiing and then you will realize that there are other sports in the olympics that have just as much soul as our sport. And even just as much of a fan base. Until then, get the facts right, and keep your opinion to yourself.
 
im not saying that all our generation is are ski gansters and punks, but i am saying that i dont see us getting more excited about the olympics than we do about X-games/freestyle events. and thats not true the olympic fan base is primarily 30-50 yr olds.
 
all im saying is that the future of snowsports are on in the pipe and park. and that is why the olympics have began the proccess of cherrypicking events from the x games... ex. ski/boarder X and boarder pipe
 
how the fuck do you know what people want to watch? im mad that there is no legitimately entertaining freeskiing, but i love the olympics based on the fact that representatives form all of the world gather in one city for 2 weeks. also, it only happens every 4 years(the winter olympics), and what if you die or arent able to watch the next time. people like to watch curling or xc skiing, thats the reason why people watch it at the olympics and watch it on tv.

 
Please tell us that you don't actually "Steeze" at the mountain in Whistler which is called Blackcomb. Because if you do, and you can't even spell the name of your own local mountain properly when choosing your username.... Well gosh, that's just too sad for words.
Oh yeah and the Olympics kick ass.
 
dude I live an hour away from Whistler, there is no one on the mountain which is fuckin dope. Much Music is at the base with concerts every night and everyone is stoked and happy. Even though there is no slopestyle or park rats in the olympics, it is still interesting to watch as well.
 
I don't know if it's just me, but I got just as stoked watching Lindsey Vonn win as I did for the x-games. I can see what you're saying though, the Olympics don't exactly cater to the younger audience, but they will. When skiing pipe is added more younger people will get excited about the games in general.

All that being said, I love the Olympics just as they are now and will watch for probably the rest of my life even if they don't change a bit.
 
1. yes the lift lines aren't long and thats tight... but they basically kicked us out of our houses up at whistler and we have to ride hour long bus routes full of swiss tourists just to get to the mountain. 2. the olympics suck for stealing all of the X-games events, and your wrong the olympics have had snowboarding pipe since 2002 and this is the first year of skierX. they are also hoping to add ski-pipe and slopstyle in the near future.
 
please elaborate, dont just tell me i suck... how can you guys not agree that the future of the olympics are going to have to look very different if they want to continue to create excitement among young people and skiers alike?.
