Ok well i am under the impression that a good amount of NS members are going to U of Utah next semester. I remember the summer before college and i was full of questions and was really curious about a lot of things and i really had no one to ask. So here is the thread for it. I realize i am posting this in NSG right now and whether i ask or not its going to get moved to regionals, but i feel that some students may not look in the utah forum yet. So im posting it in NSG so that people can see this thread exists and that for future reference it will be in the utah regional forum.

So ask away. There are multiple NS members that go to the U and I'm sure any of them, including myself, will be happy to answer any questions you have.

I believe the requirments are a 2.0gpa or like a 20 on the act im not sure what the sat score is, but its not hard to get in. But if you have low gpa and act/sat scores you have to take like retard math and retard writing.

The cops are surprisingly chill, except in the suburb area called Holiday which is around 3300s to 6200s and from i-215 to about 1300sish. They suck there, try no to go to parties in that area. Otherwise, most parties ive been to that cops came were quite big, you know 50-60+ people if not up to 100 and cops would just roll in and tell everyone to leave and most of the time give the owners of the house a warning or maybe a disturbing the peace ticket or something. Overall they are very chill.

As for buttseck, very much.

So its in SLC, how big is your class. What sports do they offer, whats your act score/SAT. ? do they offer music as a major.

Yes, in slc, probably the most legit city/town in utah. It really depends on the class. Some classes like psychology 1010 (like 101) is HUGE like 400 students max but some classes like writing 1010 or 2010 are small like 30 students max. It all depends on when your class is (earlier morning classes are smaller than classes around noon).

As for sports, they dont have alot, but they have a shit ton of club teams and shit.

And i had an act score of 22, which was shitty, and a gpa of 3.0. They base what math class you have to do on your act/sat math section score and they base what writing class you get into on your "index score" which is your gpa and act/sat score compared on this like graph thing, you'll learn about it at orientation, but i had a shitty act composite score and my index score was like 1 point too low so i had to take retard writing, it sucked.

i am going to apply there next fall, i get mostly c's and b's, i just got a 1600 on the sat's, i can bring that up a bit, but do you think it's gonna be difficult to get into? I am from Maine, so i dont know if they have waitlist and take in state kids over out of state

You should be already, you gotta have pretty shitty grades and sat/act to not get into the U.

by the time i get to college you will be graduated and your knees will be gone

but that means more buttsecks on the couch

and yeah i get straight a's i want to go to the u or anywhere close to skiing

seems this would be the chillest place to go

if you have a 1600 why are you going to the U? go to U. of Denver or something if you want skiing.. ur grades are good so go to a legit school... unless ur going to the u cuz its hella cheap and u would prolly get a scholarship

1600 isn't that great, its 800 below a perfect score, but i guess i got a 22 and thats like 16 from perfect which in relation is lower than a 1600. I dunno shit about sat though.

is there a freestyle ski team? like the one at CU Boulder and UVM? and how hard is it to get to the mountains from the downtown SLC campus? are there usually chill kids that you can get rides from or what?

There's no freestyle team. It's really easy to get from the city to the mountains - there's a good public transportation system and tons of people to get rides with.

oOooOOo i am the ghost of pcmr ooOoOoo no one shred there ooOOoO i will eat your babies oOOooO

no but seriously i'm not a ghost, and i'd love to see some more ns'ers at PC.

Sleep til 12-1 every day. First month went buy pretty fast for me.

As for mormons, its chill they dont really do anything to you and we dont do anything to them. You will meet alot of them though and they are all very nice and some even party. As for girls, there are alot of hot girls in utah, it seemed like there weren't very many in the dorms though, maybe your class will be different.

Im trying to figure out if i want to be in Utah or Colorado. Im already in at U of U, but I don't know how I feel about living in Utah cause i'll be living wherever i chose to go to school for a year to get in state tuition. what do you think?

im trying to hot box my room every day, chances of cops rolling into dorms..do they fuck with people...ra''s usually pretty chill or what...where is the good spot to eat on campus food....covering smoke alarms with plastic bags works?

Bathroom smoking is pretty chill, if you can get a handicap room the toilet(where the fan is) has like a sealing door so you can smoke mad weed in there. BUT if ras do smell weed, they dont even knock they just call the cops so its actually pretty sketch but i know kids who smoked all the time in there rooms but smoking outside is the chillest. But you can just take your smoke alarm off of the cieling and take the battery out and that problem is over.

And as for eating on campus you have the Heritage Center (HC) that is less than a minute walk from every dorm and the Union down campus that is like a different food and you have to use transfer meals.

As for the mormons, as said, they dont really effect anything. I never had something change what i was doing because someone else was mormon. They are pretty chill and kind of keep to themselves.

As for getting booze, fake ids my friend, beer is probably the easiest thing to get even though its only 3.2% but hell just balls up and drink 15 beers and you'll be set. If you want to party, you can. Just meet other people that do, get booze and drink in the dorms or go to a party if you hear of one, its just like anywhere else.

So, how much is it for out of state? I figure it is between U of U, or Western State I may do CU or CSU too, but I would rather be closer to skiing.

I dunno where you're getting your numbers but 30 credit hours (two semesters usually) is 14,000 something and housing/food is like 10 grand max for the whole year so more like 20-24 a year.

i guess ive got a few question...

how necessary is it to have your own car for getting to the mountain?

shuttles?

what are the students generally like ?(massive stereotypes included) laid back? rich jerks? slackers?

are there season pass discounts for PC or Alta available to students?

do students generally stay on-campus during breaks instead of heading home?

thanks in advance

I know alot of kids who dont have cars are get up to the mountain, it just ends up that you might want to go up one day but no one else does, so you really depend on other people.

And by shuttles to you mean busses? UTA has a few busses that go up to the cottonwood canyons, but not PC.

And the students seem normal like they would be at any other school, every skier or snowboarder i met was way chill though and laid back.

As for passes, join the U of U one love ski and snowboard club. 399 for pc, 459 for snowbird. Unfortunately the only way to get a discount alta pass is by taking a ski instructor class at the U, i did it and it was way chill and i got a 99 dollar alta pass. if you want more details shoot me a PM.

And you have to get off campus for christmas, thats just policy, fall break (a week in october like spring break) i would say its like half gone half say. Spring break alot of people leave though.

1. not at all if you have friends

2. shuttles and bus service sucks for geting to the mountain but it's doable.

3. There's a little bit of everything here (frat fags, asians, climber hippies, skier/boarder people, skaters nerds etc.)

4. PC is 375 dolla for students and Alta is 500, but you must be a full time student for alta both semesters or your pass gets taken away in like march.

5. 50 50.

You get a UTA pass for trax and busses as a student i believe. But they are a pretty big hassle, but ive never personally taken them before but a good amount of people do. I wish they had one to PC it would take it most often because if im going to alta it prob a pow day and ill wanna be up there asap but if i was just gonna go shred park at PC i wouldnt mind catching a bus at like 10 and getting there at 11.

Anybody who got in state tuition, was it easier? on my practice act i got in the low 20's but i could definately improve that. and right now my Overall gpa is about a 3.1 ive got 2 more years, but do you think i'm set?

Low 20s with a 3.1 will be just fine, try to get a 25 or higher on your math though so you dont have to take retard math.

A good amount of them are, but you just gotta get them to drink and have fun and they loosen up. They will choose if they want to party or not though and if they are hot and are potential for later, just take your time and work it slow.

i am going to bump this tread by saying i like prude mormon girls because i want to be that guy for some poor defensless mormon girl that makes her think "wow people who are not mormon are creepy and weird", and help her to choose to go marry some dude in a compound with having 50 other wives around her to deal with...but seriously i want that to be me

yes, from the dorms it usually takes almost 2 hours to get there. but its worth it if you cant get a ride. and if you got an i pod and some weed its really not the bad. the only thing is that they dont start until mid december and they stop at the end of march. rides are much better but its totally free to take the trax/bus combo. also if you do have a car you can park at the bottom of the canyon and get the bus up to save on gas $
