The Next Generation Of Skiing

Hi everybody, i'm been on NS since 2001, not with that account, but what ever.

This come from me and my mentality about what skiing is today.

First of all, skiing is no more what skiing was. Remember Royalty, Propaganda, Happy Dayz ( the year of the revolution), Ski Movie 2-3(before Winter started bitching everyone)? Remember when you saw the Session 1242 teaser and was like ... OH shit, im gonna get this movie for sure.. The love of skiing was there, where's this love at? I remember me watching all Eric Iberg's movies in one day ( R.I.P. E-Media), and was like; man the love of skiing is here, you can watch all part of his movies and you know the love of it is there. Remember when shooting a movie, was at the start a family thing? When partying at Mammoth 3 days in a row and being the first on the snow the next day and everybody was still skiing? Rembember at Snow Summit 20 cinematographers shooting ''the family'' in the halfpipe. And for all the n00b, newbz, newbie here, the family mean ; Tanner, CR, The 3 phils, the armada crew, the canadian air force crew, the mammoth punks, Mickael, Iannick, Sarah... EVERYONE! After came, the famous ''business way'' of skiing, the creation of Armada, 4FRNT, Liberty, Ninthward, etc. Oh i forgot... all the productions too.. When your sponsors wasnt in a movie you got no shot or what ever. Skiers started to bitch other one, i'm not gonna talk about it. It would be too long. The famous ''business way'' of skiing destroyed this kind of family... And i'm not talking only about pros, im talking about skiing in general. Im talking about the way people is on the moutain, when you say hello to someone and he tell you; fuck you, why i should talk to you, you dont have the new line of salomon 09. I mean where the fucking love of skiing is!?

Second, please stop talking about afterbang and the way you like a skier, Tanner, Wallisch, B-Dog, Henrik, Jon, PK, TJ, JP, etc, what ever, they are normal person like everyone. We fucking dont care on what they are eating each morning, and why you would have judge one an other way in a competition. All the pros are here for one thing,( I think) and it's for the love of skiing.

To finish, for all the new here who talk shit on everyone, please get back to your homework. Or try to get some old Freeze magazine and try to understand the history of skiing. Or ask Cedric, who's a pionner here.

This was my opinion on what skiing is nowadayz and what NS users are.

I would like to thanks everyone that know what i'm talking about.

hahaha, i crack myself up. seriously though, didn't you realize it was inevitable? back in the day when I saw someone at the hill with twins, naturally we became friends 'cause shit, there wasn't too many of us - not to mention we had, what? two skis to chose from? now a days everyone and their grandmother is on twins, there's more skis to pick from than you could shake a stick at.
Sports evolve, things change. I don't really know what you're trying to get at 'cause when i'm out on the hill with my friends, one thing I do know for sure is that yes, we all still love what we are doing out there.
as long as there's love, who cares what the industry tells us we should do - you wanna throw some huntney's in the pipe and say "fuck hand drags" go for it, i'll even give you props if i see ya.

did you really expect things to stay stagnant when the sport was growing at a super fast pace? other than 1242, all the movies from back then are dated now for sure.
 
This is sadly so true, Ive been thinking the same thing for years... The first pic remember me Mik D in these first iberg movie wearing the doo-rag with the puffy doing 5 tailtip, he was doing crazy stylish stuff like 5 years ago. I just wish skiing would be the same ,, but too bad I guess it wont ever come back. Today kid are all over getting sponsored and just ski for that reason. I remember those old days when we were getting to the mountain and just hiking the rail with everyone there and having fun, talking with everybody. but now people would judge you on whatever you wear, if you dont have the 09 oakley suit they would judge you , if youre not wearing something XXXXL, or even if youre the beginner ... but they just forgot that they werent that good when they started. Anyway, it wont change the love I have for skiing, and it wont change my style for anyone out there.
 
its bound to happen with gaining popularity. i bet when snowboarding first started all the guys were really tight and super stoked. now everyones hating on everyone. same thing happened with skiing.
 
Haha I remember showing all my non-skier friends Candide's segment in ski movie three when he started hitting that massive hip head on. They were quite impressed
 
Yeah just like your parents who bitch because you are always on your computer instead of going outside. Things change dude stop living in the past and saying it was better before because things change for a reason! It's good that the sport has evolved now the sport is way more recognized and we get way better products because of there is more companys to choose from. And I loooooove skiing it's the only thing I can think of and I'm definatly not the only one here so stop bitching and go ski!
 
yeeeah that was ridiculous. i remember watching that and thinking it was the dopest thing ever. i still watch the seggy in amazement.
 
Well, while what you say is true, there are still the people going up every day hiking every night, just chilling and having fun. They're still out there, and once you start having that same laid back one love mentality, it wears off onto others. Its the people that share this perspective and understand where you're coming from that have to teach the new generation of skiers, encourage respect for everyone on the hill, whether they slay or whether they're gapers. Don't let the negativity drag you down, stay positive and spread the love!

It seems that a bunch of sports are going this way. like mountain biking! ever since krankworks a bunch of rich kids are getting really nice bikes and making fun of all the faster kids who have klapped out race bikes! its bound 2 happen
 
Are you kidding me? What kind of skiers are you talking about? The ones who work 25 hours a week during school to pay for ski trips and ski equipments? the ones who wake up at 7 to go ski every week end? The ones who go sesh rails after school? Maybe you should stop bitching and just go ski. Things always change it's inevitable if you're not happy go chase a fuckin mamoth and stop crying. Have a nice season!
 
easily my favorite thread ever...beautifully said about the love of skiing. i cant stand how ppl just have to get the newest shit and then lookdown on ppl that have last years shit. i mean my suit is like 2 or 3 seasons old and in good hsape i ski my skis till theyre noodles thats because i love skiing and not just park skiing. i cannot tolerate teh kids that can only park ski and think theyre the beswt ahtlete in teh world theres more to free skiing than park its called go mess around have fun on some random shit u find on the side of a trail or something learn to actually ski and then youll ove the sport that much more!
 
idk about that...that very well may be the problem, but i think its just how it turned out to be. give me reasons why rich kids ruined skiing.

kids who have everything that you can dream of and have top of the line everything, but arent that good dosent mean the sport is getting "ruined". its just what happens to any sport that gets more popular over time. everyone wants freeskiing to be progressive, popular and more known. thats what is happneing and it needs to be excepted. i hate everyone asking me if i snowboard.

im sure those rich kids cant help that there parents will buy them 2009 skis, just cause they ask for em.... they prob love the sport just as much as anyone else.

skiing is becoming "popular" and we cant stop it becasue we started it.
 
At my old local mountain, Brookvale PEI, we have kind of a family of skiers like that. It's just a tiny mountain with a tiny park and there aren't many freestyle skiers there, but we all ride together, and if there's new kids we try to teach them some tricks and make them feel welcome, we are all stoked if someone even just does like a 3 grab or slides the down bar or someone learns a new trick. Most of us have old beat up skis and there's a few of those AR5s with the red and white base, and the old blue teneightys, and a lot of people wouldn't even know what 9thward is. It's just a really awesome vibe and why i love going back there even though it's a shitty little hill andthere's no park until like halfway through january. I also know all the staff there and they know me.
 
i have been thinking about this kinda stuff a lot too. i feel like everything is a competition to see who has the best afterbang, or have the steeziest outfit. oh outfits... people try WAY TO HARD to look steezy, that you begin to forget about the sport of skiing. pisses me off.

i ski 50 days a year, and cherisch EVERY ONE of them, and remember every rail i hit, every cliff i drop, and every jump i hit. i respect and am thankful for every day im out ther eskiing with friends.. whooever it may be.. my steezy friends, or gayper friends..

You've managed to assess the problem with freestyle skiing today. However, you have proposed absolutely no solutions. Perhaps you should focus some of your energy/anger towards a more productive goal than complaining.
Personally I love skiing more than anything else, and as a result I honestly couldn't care less about what others are feeling or "where the love has gone". I love skiing, and I'm going to keep skiing and loving it no matter what.
 
How the HELL are people saying that this is a good thread??? Just because someone put together a set of somewhat incoherent statements (have you passed the 6th grade?), reminiscing about the old days of skiing, people automatically thinks its gold? I have seen sooo many threads like this. We get it already- when freestyle skiing was first arising onto the scene, nobody gave a fuck. It was completely unorganized which led to a greater sense of comradery between the athletes, filmers, and everybody else involved. This was cool and all, but at some point during the transformation of skiing it was inevitable that things would become more organized and coordinated. In my opinion, no comradery was lost between the athletes during this transformation. There are just soo many more pro skiers these days (which is a good thing), that there is no way that everybody could ski and chill together anymore. Another great thing about this organization of the sport are new events like JOI, JOSS, NAO, ect, ect. I'm sorry for the long-winded post, but I am fucking sick and tired of this threads popping up. Get the fuck over it already and stop living in the past!! I LOVE the direction that skiing is going!!

 
im not on the project to bring back the old skiing, read my text, at the end i wrote... this is my opinion...

its just the way I think on what skiing is now... and you know like me what ever you say to help the ski community(NS) u'll be bitched by everyone. so this is why i only wrote statement of the golden age of skiing
 
word up, way to support the ski industry with your hard work man. its the love for skiing that matters nothing else and skiing just like absolutely everything else is changing and will keep changing with time. sure maybe ns was more chill when it first started? i wouldn't know but now there is so much more we have that we can benefit from just like in the ski industry. we're all here still united by one love in ns sure some people hate but we still keep logging in everyday and surfing ns for hours because we can't get enough of the sport.

think about how far skiing has gone and how much more it's going to evolve, live in the present not the past.
 
ohh and avila, i forgot im not working 25 hours a week... im a carpenter working full time (40h and over a week), to pay myself a road trip with my friends... to pay myself good time... you'll know in more years what it all mean. its not a 15 years old kid that will teach me something
 
yeah and you go to school 40 hours a week i bet? Anyways I'm not saying I'm better than you just telling you to live in the present instead of crying on how it was good before but it has evolved and now skiing is sick and i LOOOVE skiiing as much if not more than you so you don't have anything to teach me neither
 
all im gunna say is that i wish skiin was the way it used to be, where everyone didnt judge..cuz now ppl judge the way you look the way you ski and every aspect of your life that involves the sport. Pesonally im not the best and i think im getting held back cuz of all the ppl who judge me n make fun of me when i fall, and its ridiculous cuz im just trying to have fun n do new thingswhat im really trying to say is that i wish there were more people out there who are more willing to help than judge
 
Its SOOOO easy to look into the past and say that it was a much better time than the present. Not just in skiing,.. in every aspect of life. When you look into the past typically you see all of the good things and none of the bad. Its just human nature to think this way. Just sayin'....
 
If you don't like the direction that skiing is going then you should probably quit now while you're ahead. That is unless you're actually planning to change anything, which I highly doubt.
 
coool man ill quit skiing cause i think most of the tricks people are doing these days is wack and not actully that technical. No one rides a rail anymore they tap it while doing a 1080. I whistled for a cab and when it came near the licensplate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror If anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air

I totally understand this.. so well put together.

I miss the old skiing.. just the way people were, like if you saw another person with twins in the park you could ride up and start a conversation and talk about ns and people would always be cool and friendly.. now theres so many skiers out there who just think its a big competition it just gets tense on the mountain if theres a lot of skiers cause everyone is trying to out perform the other.. its sick.

i miss the tightknit group of freeskiers
 
i disagree man sports evolve equipment gets better and people evolve and start to tear it up ur just another person out there hating on what skiing has become without the evolution of the sport the pros wouldnt be making money or have nearly as many sponsors as they do so dont hate appreciate!!!!

yeeeea daugh i feel you, but just like snowboarding, the "business way" was going to happen eventually.But candide in propaganda, bought it when i was at summer mogul camp in whis, his part pretty much made me quit skiing bumps and get into freeride. oh, that and dave creighton alley oop flat five in the pipe.
 
Things have definitely changed, but that is inevitable. Anyone else remember in the early 90's when 3's were called helicopters lol. Or straight skisl, I would have to be riding on some 210cm if I was still skiing them lol
